Күн бұрын

Ep#4 We are finally taking the RV up to the lake, but not before getting some finishing touches done. The broken fender and ac unit cover were replaced as well as the shower head and water faucets in the kitchen and bathroom. We put the final pieces of trim in the kitchen, and installed a wood herringbone headboard design in the bedroom.
Before heading up to camp, we had to retract the slide outs, fill up the tires and hook up. On the way we decided to stop at a truck wash and get the RV cleaned up for camping in it this summer. We were able to get to camp and get set up but it started to get dark, so we’ll film a price breakdown and a final walkthrough tour at a later date.

I installed 1000 watts of solar panels and 3 x200hr lithium batteries, a MPPT 100amp charge controller and a 5500 watt sine wave invertor. Runs my current 5th wheel great boondocking in perpetuum. I just cannot run both AC units at the same time, but are fine running one at a time. Both TVs, LED lighting, microwave, etc can all run fine.

make sure you reseal the roof. Dicor self-leveling works great. RVs are notorious for leaky roofs. I inspect mine every 2 years. And seal all the lights while you're at it. Any place where just a little water can penetrate destroys a product made of wood.

Looks like it turned out really great! My two cents would be to cover it when not in use to help guard against future moisture damage, and get some ultrasonic rodent things. They're a horrible terror here in MN, especially in the winter months. More slides = more entrances heh.

Just a tip. There are really good foodgrade silicone sealants that work great on trims and covings as an adhesive, no tacks or screws required. Sikaflex ms is what I use. Super strong, flexible and easily removed with a blade if needed.

Would of been a good time to look inside while the unit was in the truck wash to see if the unit has any leaks, if nothing from the pressure washer then your truck RV will go though anything as long as not blown over. Good to see a what its like to live with episode, the pros and cons of ownership, and issues with getting onto sites etc…

I dunno about that one but my horse trailer is aluminum exterior with painted finish and purple power works awesome on it and get rid of the black streaks. Spray on low pressure, scrub with a soft brush lightly and high pressure rinse. Looks like new but yeah I see a truck wash I will give them a try. I saw some of the fixtures. One of the best upgrades you can do is convert all the fixtures to LED. Changes the entire look and its cheap.

Hahaha.. I remember the first hitch on with my very first 5th wheel… with a 5the wheel open tailgate and knowing my trailers perfect height it takes 35 seconds to hook on and lift the front jacks.. I certainly don’t drop the pin on the camper into the hitch on the truck.. I leave it down just a bit, let the truck squat a bit hooking on… Love the 4 ton truck, make a great Trailer Hauler

I actually had a Heating and Air guy come out and solder in a charging port for what looks like the same unit as yours. He charged it and it has been working great! Try building an Experimental Aircraft! 7 YEARS from start to 'finish.' =) I have learned that '80/20' is a good way to estimate a project. 20% of the time does the job for 80% of the build. Then 80% of the time is needed... for the last 20%. GREAT series! Looking forward to the next series! =)

I would love a side out RV, I think it's a brilliant idea to add more space to move around. Normal RV's are too cramped most times and smaller caravans you can tow yourself are just TOO small. But I live in the UK and our roads are not really suitable for such big vehicles. There are too many roads, especially out in the countryside, that are too small for something even the size of a medium truck.

Great videos. I 've gone thru all of your videos after finding the 401. I'm wondering if the bump out flooring rot is due to the lack of mud flaps on the 5th wheel. Driving in the rain could sling up in water in unsuspected areas. Kind Regards, Craig

Like a few others the Cessna video popped up after watching another KZbinr I have followed for years, ( Mustie1), also, a few of your channels you sub to are ones I have been following for years. I checked your videos and have been binge watching them since, luckily you are fairly new and don't have many out yet so I won't get the wife too mad sitting here trying to catch up on 100 videos all day. 😀 On another note, is this your first channel with KZbin? The reason I ask is you have (since your first video) seemed like you are an experienced KZbinr or at least spent time in front of cameras before, editing is spot on also. Anyway, not being nosy, just curious, you have done great considering you are only 5 months into this and have 118 K subs already, that says a lot. Love the content so far,I enjoy watching anything mechanical being brought back to life, renovation type videos like the RV and real people just being real, no fake drama to get views, I am pretty sure I'll be here when you hit 1 million. I also help support a couple of channels through Patreon, it might be something you could look into, I can't imagine the Cessna is going to be a cheap fix if you do pursue it and some of us enjoy helping you folks out, I'm pretty sure a lot of these projects can get expensive. Have a great New Year, hope it brings you many more subscribers.
