I have two of these machines - they are the 31-15 (mine - 1 made between 1904-1905, and 1 that was made between 1935-1938.) I got them from some folks who are shoemakers and they were stored for some 25 years. I have one I totally rebuilt - but I gotta say - this presentation is about as informative as a travel brochure! The manual for these machines is still available. The machines are used for the fashion industry even to this day. Yes you can do leather but I wouldn't - Use something like a cylinder neck unit! The 31-15 is an industrial machine they weigh about 35lbs.

I thought it was a 31-15 at first too, but it's actually a 96k...you can see the rotary hook when he lifts it up towards the end. The 31-15 has a huge oval Race similar to the 15-91's for the oscillating hook.

@einzigkeit72163 жыл бұрын
#69 is the largest it can use, you can use a roller foot for it along with leather point needles if needed.. I guess if you go bigger it won't handle good the tension..

How did you get that stitch length on a 95k40
@chuzedaredbluepill867911 ай бұрын
If you look at the back of the machine the trunk part there is a large knurled knob sticking out in front of his hand at the beginning of the video - that knob is loosened and if all the way down is the longest stictch (about 1/4") and up is the shortest. Trust me if it's like most it is a TINY spacing of stitches... hope this helps.

Just caught this video 8/2019 .. This is a Singer 96 Class straight stitch heavy duty GARMENT sewing machine that uses 16x257 class needles and was designed with a rotary hook for high speed factory piece work use. It will NOT sew through anything dense...it was designed for piles of cotton and cowhide suedes. These machines and their shorter armed "sister" machine, the 95 Class machines were the state of the art from the 20's through the late 40's. They were the primary machine sewing uniforms and clothes during WWI and WWII. Nylons were just coming in....most likely this machine was manufactured by Singer in the Elizabeth, NJ factory no later than the early 40's. I have three of them and I know a LOT about them. The other reply that says it could be a 31-15 is very wrong. That machine has a long needle stroke and the top end of theneedle bar goes up and down OUT of the machine when it sews...also has an oscillating hook. BTW: JH should try to know better what he's talking about...and, he NEVER stated the model # which was on the brass plate on the machine above the Singer Badge....I knew just by looking at it from the "distance".

Hello my Friend nice job!! You think i Can have the same job with the walking foot into a singer 31k15 ? Thanks

Yeah I agree, looks like my 96K49, I'm currently deciding which option to go with reducing the speed for leatherwork, pulley or conversion to a servo motor & also what type of walking foot to put on it....any help in those depts would be appreciated.

What's the difference between this a singer 201-2 or 15-91? Thank you! My friend just offered me this machine but I have 201-2s at home already.
@einzigkeit72163 жыл бұрын
@@JacquelineLP Singer Model 201 is considered Singer's one of the best domestic sewing machine at all the time. The 201-2 is being primarily bought by professional seamstresses and tailor who understand the true value of sewing machines. They are still looking for these reliable models. The 201 has been made out of cast iron and weight 29 LBS, but as far as Heavy duty sewing capabilities 201 cannot be seriously compared to "bullet proof" Singer models 31-15 or Singer 95-40. Those machines has been dropped by parachutes to personnel in the front-line at inaccessible by transportation outposts and to be installed in a different army vehicles to be used as a mobile stations by Rigger units to repair equipment clothing, tents, camouflage material, and other items in combat zone.

it´s an old tailor machine yes, but it´s a very good machine, a noble machine, can you tell me about the walking foot, please??
@ChrisSmith-tw1mo11 ай бұрын
This isn’t a walking foot machine at all lol it’s a 96k with a plastic attachment. It's a Drop-feed Garment machine. Runs fast. Rotary hook. But most garment machines can handle 3-5oz of upholstery leather in isolation, it's the density of the flesh side and the combined density when seams start bunching that pushes them to the brink. A 31-15 is better than a 96k for leather.
@Tendeep47 ай бұрын
Hi why a 31k15 is better? They look very similar.. Thx
