In this video I talk about some of the features of the Singer 111W151, how to load the bobbin, adjust the stitch length and how to lock stitches on a machine that does not have reverse.

I like your slow motion video tied to various acoustic sound effects. Your videos are very professionally created. Very impressive. I like rewatching certain clips, because I forget some of the points you make about various feed mechanisms or different machines, and other details. You’re my sewing machine guru...

Very helpful 4 options for doing a lock stitch on a machine without reverse - that was very helpful to me. You’re an excellent teacher and mentor for sewing, among other skills that you demonstrate. Thanks.

I appreciate all your videos. Can you recommend a needlefeed machine that has reverse? I already have a walkingfoot and a straight stitch, I am wanting something inbetween and the needlefeed seems like the answer, but I really prefer something that has reverse? any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Hi Alexander, thanks for the tips on locking stitches. I usually do the second method you showed. Question - if you cut the thread and make another few stitches over your existing stitches will that be just as effective as the first and second method? Or does keeping it as one (two) pieces of thread uncut make it more effective. You know what I mean? I've tried it and it seems to work ok. I asked my mom who used to be a home economics teachers and she thought it would be fine, however she hasn't worked much with machines that have no reverse. Anyways, I'm bingeing on your channel. Thanks for putting this content out there!

Interesting idea that probably looks good and with three or more I think it would work pretty good but I have not tried that. Just goes to show there are many ways to accomplish a task.

Question: Does anyone know if you can use the presser feet/zipper feet/welting foot/accessories of the 111w on the 112 double needle version? I'd like to take the 112 double needle and use it as a single needle (2 for 1 option). Thanks!

Hi Alexander, I just came across your channel and what a great resource it is! Great job and thank you! Quick question for the pro: Are there any feet adapters to make double transport needle feed machines into a walking foot triple transport? Is this something you came across?
@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
You would need to find another machine if you want triple feed. These are pretty sweet machines though, right?

I have a 111w155. Is there a fairly easy way to adjust stitch length without the button? I think the tip of mine is broken off or worn down from before I had it. I'm stuck to use 5 per inch

Alexander, even if this machine is sold, how much do you charge for this machine or a similar machine? Does the Singer 211 have reverse? Which other vintage (older) industrial machines would you recommend as a good one to start with? I’d be sewing with leather and canvas, as well as Sunbrella-type fabric for awnings and outdoor cushions. Thank you.
@AlexanderDyer6 жыл бұрын
The old 111 went for @ 500, The 211 does have reverse, I get 700 to 900, Juki 563, Consew 206RB. Brother and Mitsubishi also make good machines.

Alexander, the reason I kept missing out on your machines is that I did not know about clicking on the little bell next to subscribe, so that I would get alerts when you make a new posting. I’m glad you mentioned that on one of your videos that I watched yesterday. Had a video marathon laid up with a broken foot. Thanks your your kind reply. BTY, where are your outdoor video shots taken? I’m guessing it’s near where you live. By the topography and vegetation, I’d say it’s in the plains states, somewhere between Nebraska and Texas. Let me know how far off I am. Thanks.

compound feed normally means walking foot, underfeed dogs, and needle feed such as a 111w155. If it is needle feed it says that and goes without saying it normally includes the underfeed. A modern example would be the Juki DLN-5410n needle feed. Whereas the Juki DNU-1541 is considered a compound feed has a walking foot, needle feed, and underfeed. Best regards, Mike

Yes, it should turn free and easy. Lubricate and clean out any threads you can find wrapped around the hook and or hand wheel

I am not sure how long it is supposed to be but I have fabricated those with some success before. Would one slightly longer solve your issue? Or maybe there is something else missing. IDK
@ksgjlg4 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderDyer after making one from a 16d common nail, almost an exact duplicate but slightly longer, I discovered the little wedge that is supposed to slide up and push that out from the back, doesn't slide up very well. Couldn't see how to get that off without dismantling the whole mechanism. Nothing appears to be worn but that must have issues, just can't get to it

hi alex, does this machine work for lighter fabrics such as silk or what about stretchy jersey fabric? because of the compound feed wouldn't this be more ideal for slippery fabrics that tend to shift ply
@AlexanderDyer9 жыл бұрын
I think a machine like this should do very well on the types of materials you mention. The army would sew parachutes with these models or at least that is what I have read. Also the foot can be replaced with a roller foot and the feed dogs can also be changed out to a more fine tooth for more delicate fabrics. The needle feed is very effective and versatile.
@thesergeant35249 жыл бұрын
Needle feed machines are ideal for stretchy material. The reason being that you can run much lower presser foot pressure on them compared to a standard bottom feed lockstitch since you have the aid of the needle to feed the material. The lower the presser foot pressure the less puckering you will get and the easier the material will move without stretching. It's a balancing act though because if you go too light on the presser foot you'll get inconsistent feeding and stitch lengths.
