Nice job, the vice turned up really good. Powder coating and colour is very good as well. In my opinion, if you used the original square bolts it would be perfect, you can tell those modern bolts don't belong to that vise. Subscribed.

Why is it that 90% of stuff people restore are always made in the USA? is it bias or is it that the USA used to make things to last centuries? (actual question) Also cool vid, nice job! Subbed.
@RebuiltRestored3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub and question! I have restored things from different places. One of my toy projects was from Taiwan I believe. For me, I restore whatever or from where ever. Have an amazing day!
@brianspangler39823 жыл бұрын
I’m guessing things were built better way back when. That being said I like to find things with my own home town name on them simply because I live here. Not bias, just familiarity. For many of us these restoration vids take back down memory lane. Good question tho.

To achieve the best outcome with the hot bluing you must heat the piece to red-hot right before soaking it in oil. Good job.
@RebuiltRestored3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip and comment!
@brianspangler39823 жыл бұрын
Heating red hot is necessarily needed. Certain types of metal will actually result in flaking under use. The tempature will depend on the type of steel, the use and sometimes even the previous finish on it , ( polish or blasted ) and the type and weight of oil you use.
@brianspangler39823 жыл бұрын
Oops meant to say “not necessarily needed”.

I hope I don’t sound like a Debbie Downer here, because I truly thought the pipe vice turned out magnificent!! Love when powder coat is used. My only complaint, if you would, is why so many restorers feel it’s necessary to slam parts around and throw things down on the table. I suppose you’re trying to be funny in a way, but I find that a bit annoying. Here you are trying to restore an old unique tool from years past, and you (and others) feel it’s acceptable to throw parts around. I think a better approach is used by My Mechanics and others when they treat there projects with respect. Too much unnecessary drama seems to have infested many of the restoration channels lately. This, of course, is just my opinion and I truly respect everyone else’s take on this. That being said, it turned out absolutely wonderful. Fantastic job!!!

Perhaps a legitimate concern... although in this stressful day of COVID-19 I do enjoy the touch of humor. Each to their own.
@amille2233 жыл бұрын
To Rebuilt & Restore and Brian...thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond to my text. I’m a bit “old school” and was taught by my father to always be respectful and to take care of anything we own, even if it’s an old, unique tool from the past. I find it hard to watch anyone throwing and tossing things around and banging and beating on things. I was taught to take my time, be patient, and try different methods before resorting to tossing, throwing and beating on things. I watch many, many restoration videos and most don’t approach their projects in that manner. As you said, everyone has their own approach to how they do things. My grandsons tend to think it’s funny to throw their belongs around (whether old or new), but I was taught differently and that was never looked upon as humorous. What’s the old saying.....it’s not wrong, just different...and all of us are different with different viewpoints. That’s ok, though, right? 🙂 With that being said, thanks again for both of your inputs. Have a great day. 🙂
