But the most important point to make is: Her work which you quotemine from was published in 1851. As she pointed out " there is no positive evidence, at present", she was reflecting on the knowledge of her time around 1851 and before. I think we've made some progress in the last 170 years, don't you think? For example, the first hint about DNA was found 1869 by Friedrich Miescher, about 18 years later than Harriet Martineau has published her work. Trying to convice people to not follow the evidence of science by quotemining a non-scientist on her laymen knowledge and interpretation about knowledge from 170 years ago could be considered as dishonesty. I have not forgotten Genesis (creation & the flood included), I have very clear memory and understanding of that nonsense. As a child I read the Bible multiple times. I was raised in the Catholic faith. As I matured and my mental capability grew, I came to understand that the information I was seeing at 'The Natural History Museum' & 'The Science Museum' in London (which I haunted practically every weekend) was utterly at odds with the nonsense in the Bible. I was 9 years old when I reached that conclusion. The concept of 'Original Sin', is blamed on the 'fall' of Adam & Eve is fundamental to the Christian faith, particularly Catholicism, without it the sacrifice of Jesus is meaningless. Once one understands that Genesis is nonsense & the story of Adam & Eve is fantasy, the underpinning of Christianity collapses. It became clear to me that sin, was merely a construct with which to control the population & keep the religious hierarchy in power and the free money etc coming in. Without it, the Clergy would have to do real work for a living. As I grew older, I learned far more about religions heinous history in human society. It has been the cause of countless deaths and persecution of 'the different'. In addition the hypocrisy of the clergy and their followers, particularly in the Catholic faith further enhanced my antipathy to religion.

I was dragged up as a Roman Catholic and even wound up in a Roman Catholic secondary school. I come from one of those cults. Worst part, you have to hear them all the time their misunderstandings about evolution and all science in general. They don't have a clue, but they don't have a clue in anything, even its own religion. Is it Halloween? Well, it is a pagan feast were all families ate their children (literally their words, not mine). Worst part, when you tell them that they are making a fool of themselves, and that to talk about evolution you should know what evolution is first, more if you are talking against, or you say to them that even when Halloween was pagan it evolved over the course of time and it has little to do, just like Christmas, and that even Christmas was originally pagan and stolen by them, when you expose their stupidity that you are hearing all the time in the streets, in KZbin, in Facebook, in Instagram, even in your house even after telling them that you don't care about their imaginary god and that you don't live in fantasy land, then they tell you that they are seriously offended by your words and that you should learn to respect others beliefs. Yeah sure, whatever except to get a book and learn something. Then they are all the time crying that people learn evolution theory and go out of churches...

I’ll be honest between my own doubts in the scriptures from day one to this year were I renounced my faith completely, it’s been intellectuals like yourself that have made this possible, I suffer from chronic depression and I took to religion because I felt it would release me from my shackles so to speak, but it’s only after all this time that I realized that I only put further bondage onto myself. One of my favorite memories from that time however is sitting with my pastor and really having an intellectual discussion with her, and if there is a heaven I hope she sees it, she was kind and even willing to humor my questions, she didn’t badger me for questioning god or his machinations or call me a non-believer. In fact it was when I told her that “the Bible isn’t a holy scripture written by god, it the very least it was written by man on how to live a Godly life”. However this was before I read the Bible and it’s older versions from front to back. What makes this memory so fond to me is that she intentionally pushed me to ask further questions and come to my own conclusions rather than demanding that I adhere to scriptures. She said that “Gods gift of intelligence to man shouldn’t be squandered by shackling yourself to scriptures.” And while I may not believe in god anymore and no longer follow the faith it was ironically one of the faithful that showed me this path. That ‘scoffers’ passage is such a cheap cop out, and it baffles me that they don’t see that. If I was writing the Bible, I would absolutely include a passage that said ‘anyone who doesn’t believe this is ignorant’, so if anybody tried to argue what I was saying my followers could just say: “See, you’re just a scoffer, and the Bible knew people like you would come along!’

I mean, it also says much the same thing in the Qu'ran, so by their logic, *that* must be correct as well, right?

It reminds me of the old Danny Kaye song, 'The King's New Clothes'. They managed to persuade virtually everybody that the king had a new suit of clothes but ignorant people would not be able to see it. The king was actually naked yet everybody marvelled at his new attire for fear of being thought of as stupid.

you know AronRA, since i started watching your channel, the more sense you make, the less they make. Not to include also those who i already asked and found answers within my own faith that ...only make sense within the circular bible logic i keep hearing from them. Thank you my sir.

@@WilbertLek I would call it less a rude awakening and more "wait....why do they not question what they believe or think?"

"God did it." That's not a valid argument... Not that Abrahamic Theists will admit they are fallacious.

"It is because I believe it is" Belief is not fact. Believing something does not make it true. Truth is described by objective facts. Faith is not supported by empirical evidence to prove it as objective fact, but by subjective opinions and biases.
