I am using the Bearhard 5.0 with great results. I have used 100 mi/hr tape on the corners. I have two 6-8” pieces folded over that are parallel to the sides and perpendicular to each piece of tape. I cut out the tape in the grommet an have a loop of 550 in each. We live in Adirondack mountains in north New York. This is has worked great for our overnight hikes. I like your channel, very well done keep up the good work. Sgt. Cross USMC

Thanks for a straightforward, no-nonsense review of the differences between the Grabber and Arcturus tarps. It would appear that the Arcturus tarp is worthy of inclusion in virtually any sort of emergency, camping, backpacking, or survival gear-set. I especially like the way they have reinforced the grommets, which are obviously larger and of better quality.

Great video and great advice as always. Really appreciate, the fact that you ALWAYS show and demonstrate the bowline , truckers hitch etc, every time you do them. Your camera angles and framing, also allow a really great view, of what is being done. Every time I watch another one of your videos, all these things become clearer. As you would say, outstanding! :-D

Good stuff! John McCann put me onto the GRABBBER SPORTSMAN [hood and mitts] at Dirttime 2011. I'm a big fan of the Sportsman I often wrap it tight around me, stand in front of a fire, and the heat just radiates in it and warms me. Tactical Bushcrafter says Sportsman is smaller than the blanket by GRABBER. I've never considered using them to tarp. I always figured if I was lost/near hypothermic, I'd make a fire, just roll up in it and try stay warm. I worked with a guy who was a USMC M249 SAW gunner and he said they'd just roll up in their tarp, prop one corner with a stick, and poke the SAW out of the tarp. Talking cold/wet conditions, but yes, lean to great for shelter from sun. Great vid, gave a THUMBS UP Thanks again for sharing your knowledge [as always]!

I already ordered the 5×7 tarp, and then I saw that they had an 8 × 12. Yeah, it's $45, but you're only gonna buy it once. So the 5×7 will be my ground cover, and the 8 × 12 will be my shelter. I've got way to many overpriced tarps, that are just ok, (sorry Kelty).. The corporals suggestions, are field tested and much more suitable for rugged encampment. Outstanding as always 👏 👌 👍
@MyRadDesign5 жыл бұрын
Bought two, used them on a mountain camping outing for a week atop two Eureka tents to block the sun during the day and protect from heavy rain. In past camping with these tents driving rain can get through the rain fly, resulting in a mist of water covering whatever is in the tent. The tarp kept the tent dry as a bone during heavy rain. It also made the tent slightly warmer in the night as the radiation to the clear sky was partially blocked. This kept the moisture that can collect on the inside of the tent from forming while sleeping in the tent. Never had a dryer tenting experience.

Check out there other products too. I purchased the Arcturus wool blanket about a year ago and love it. I actually use it every night in my bed. My pup also cuddles in it all the time. Love the channel- thanks for awesome material. I purchased two Arcturus tarps from Amazon, they are identical to your elcheapo Grabber tarp. barely reinforced small grommets. Comes in the same Arcturus tarp material bag, printed identical to what you displayed, except the tarp is not what you displayed in terms of the grommets and reinforcement. Be aware and make sure you select cautiously.

I've had the same one of these in my trunk for 15 years. I've used it as a ground tarp a few times and lean-to a couple of times and one time coming home from a Super Bowl party after having too much to drink I pulled in behind a Denny's and I didn't want to run the engine and have the police see the exhaust coming from my tailpipe and arrest me for DUI so I turned off the engine and put this over me and put the seat back in my car and went to sleep and was perfectly warm all night. These things do actually reflect your body heat back to you.

I ordered two of these tarps when this video came out Seems to be a decent product. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to build a shelter using one of the tarps. After successfully building the lean to shelter. I switched it to a plow point. When i adjusted the ridge line tension. The tarp ripped right along the reinforcement. The rip stop separated from the nylon reinforcement, Just from tightening the ridge line. I got online with Arcturus told them what happened. Their customer service is outstanding. A new tarp was on my door step. Still have the old tarp. Reinforced the corners with Gorilla tape. Will do the same for the others. Test built a shelter today with the reinforced shelter. Put a bit of strain on it and worked out pretty well.
