So, you may have noticed a lack of RPG-focused Recaps recently, and there's a reason for that: I'm done. I'm just done spending hundreds of hours on long stories from old games I don't care about. I apologize to those who sub to the channel for that, but please understand I would much rather recap story focused games, in the genres I like more than RPGs. The lore of the Madden series is so complex and mind bending, I was really disappointed with the change of direction they showed by adding the Franchise mode.. but looking back, it was that kind of zestful thinking that revitalized this series and brought it to Final Fantasy VI levels of depth.

Long*horn*? Long*shot*? Such incredible storytelling potential shown here! Why isn't this game being remade yet? I have no idea how dramatic this game's tone actually is, but you make feel like the world is at stake in this simplistic sports drama with very tired tropes being played out again, as it often does in film. I absolutely love your Dan Marino trivia, too. Despite being an April Fool's Episode (Or perhaps your comment is the *true* fool's joke?), this is a worthy addition to the massive set of RECAPitations. To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Madden NFL 18. The story is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of American history most of the jokes will go over a typical player's head. There's also Devin's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of these moments, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about AMERICA. As a consequence people who dislike Madden NFL 18 truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Devin’s existential catchphrase "Go long," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as John Madden’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
