At 28:00, I have to competely disagree, and I think any tennis analyst that pays attention will be able to tell you that Shelton's ceiling is much higher than TP. To say that TP is naturally more talented than Shelton just doesn't make any sense. Don't get me wrong, TP is no slouch, but Ben's natural power on his serve and groundstroke is something TP could never hope to develop, while Ben's weaknesses, which are mostly mental, can be improved drastically. TP really can't improve his game much else and is also in his prime already, while Ben is still improving constantly. Just look at where Tommy was at 22 compared to Ben, its not even close. Also to say Jannick isn't physically gifted is actually asinine. The guy is nearly 6'4 and moves like a gazelle. There is no one at his height that moves that well other than perhaps Dimitrov. One of the biggest improvements in his game has been his ability to hit offensive balls out of the corners while defending. This wouldn't be possible without world class movement.

Raw physical ability will get you to the Top 20, but to win Majors and be Top 5 it's about a lot more than that - that was my point. Maybe Ben will get to that level by adding depth to his game, but currently - I see someone like Tommy Paul having a higher tennis IQ and overall game, so I see him staying at a higher ranking until Ben improves his consistency and return especially - Stephen

Again steven minimizing Sinner in a backhanded way, and pushing up Nole without any reality about his age and his ability to go far in a major any longer and maintain his youthful vigor. It’s a joke. You also pick Zverez to beat Sinner again your minimizing sinner. And you were badly wrong…. Again. No, you aren’t pavy g or dumb Nick Kyrgios’s who’s turned out to be a joke, but you are still in bias against Sinner and it always backfires on you. I think you’re less a commentator and more an opinion guy and that’s just that.

I am not minimizing Sinner in any way - I have no clue how you get that from what I said. Saying he had an easier draw that Alcaraz and Djokovic (fact) is not minimizing anything.

I agree with the fact that Sinner had the easier path through Zverev hardly played the semifinal and this could be a big advantage .

On the women's side, it was certainly an exciting competition. On the men's side, it was lackluster at best aside from the Djokovic/Alcaraz match.

Be real though, if you had to give up the men's or women's AO this year, surely you'd give up the womens?

It is lackluster for sure as we need profiles like Nadal and Federer and some Kyrgios' badasses, but we do not have it. Sinner is not at their magnitude personality and looks wise. He is boring as hell. But luckily Federerer has 2 young boys and Nadal a son so I am hoping they will take over - we neeeeed those genes :) There will never be any one like Rafa on clay unless his son steps up and I wonder if their children can create their parents play style. The style of Federer on grass was so beatiful, and I did not understand how supreme he was until his last years on gras as I did not watch that much tennis earlier on.

Tommy Paul has a higher ceiling than Ben Shelton? 😂

Historically you have been accused of not liking Sinner form others. Either getting his record incorrect and minimizing his ability as you did at this tournament. You also minimize him in the face of Alcarez when Alcarez has actually not performed that well at this tournament. You’ve also incorrectly assumed the Alcarez of 2023 and the Jannick of 2023 is the same outcome as the Alcarez of 2025. I agree Carlos is excellent but his record at majors of late has been spotty other than Wimbledon and the French.

Novak v Carlos was epic. Novak was playing his best there, what a shame about the injury.

This has never happened in Tennis history - Amateur or Professional era. A near 38 year old player beating a top 3 ranked 21 year old player in a slam (That too in just four sets carrying an injury is even more impressive). The last few times this happened 9th ranked, 36 year old Laver lost to 5th seed, 19 year old Borg in just four sets at 1975 US open 4th round. In 1974 Wimbledon, 3rd seed, 22 year old Connors ousted 38 year old Rosewall in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4 & again at US open, 23 year old Connors wiped the floor with 38 year old, 5th seed , Ken Rosewall, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1; both in finals. Again in 1989 US open, 13th seed, 37 year old Connors lost to 6th seed, 19 year old Agsssi in five sets in quarter finals. Novak has yet again created a major milestone & history across eras demolishing Alcaraz at Australian open just with one and half legs. 🎉🎉 Kudos to him. The tennis world is yet to realise the magnitude of the achievement which is a Super human feat.

Women don't need to play five sets at all. Time is an issue. Some people don't wish to watch women at all. We would totally lose the mothers if they went to five sets. US tennis doesn't have the best male athletes.
@adelaideholmes56743 күн бұрын
Women cannot take 5 sets, they will get a lot on injuries, especially the best women as they would naturally last longer in the slams, AND they get to play more matches throughout the years as they go deep in most tournaments they play. Remember, the tennis calendar is 10.5-11 months, so these are practically never out of competition or training unless they loose early at slams etc., or choose to skip the next tournament to avoid injuries or due to fatigue etc. It is a really advanced sport and there is no wonder how come so many people are accussed of doping in this sport. I think the story of Iga and trimetazidine is a bit strange and I am a bit suspicious on her as she is sort of like a man on the court, she is not a feminene and sweet girl, but all about movement and taking the ball early. She sort of behaves like men do I think.
