I hate how some tagalog people seem to see themselves as superior to people who are bisaya and/or speak bisaya and tend to dumb them down because they speak that certain dialect. I mean your dialect does not elevate you in any way. As filipinos we are supposed to uplift each others dialects and even more so have that fair outlook to each other no matter what dialect we speak or where we come from. I think recreate did a good job of introducing the bisaya dialect to break this thinking.
@nanskii265 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. But we should also start to unlearn to label Binisaya/Cebuano as a dialect. Our books are wrong. Cebuano and Tagalog are two different languages.

This is something I always seem to hear from people here in Cebu (I moved to Cebu from Makati) . As someone who's from Manila, I've never looked down on Cebuanos or anyone from the Visayas. This to me seems like an inferiority complex permeated through the years by the past generation. My colleagues don't seem to share this inferiority complex. Please get over this mindset. Interesting to see that you are teaching them some Cebuano slang words such as "pagsure", "chula" etc to name a few. "Lingaw" means fun in Cebuano i.e. "Nalingaw kaayo ko" = "I was having fun" but it shortens once you are in Cebu City. It becomes "Lingaw kay ko". I am from Cebu City and I speak like everything is shortened. "balay (house)" becomes "bay", "sundalo(soldier)" = "sundaw", "kahibalo (to know)" = "kaybaw". Cebu City accent is more abrupt and harsh sounding.

(Visayan languages includes waray, cebuano/bisaya, ilonggo/hiligaynon, kinaray-a, aklanon and capiznon. Moreover, Bisaya is a generic name and cebuano is the specific term. Yun yung pagkkintindi ko 😊 Laki po akong negrosanon. We also use the word biga which means landi in Tagalog. But if we are referring to a person we call her/him Biga-on or Bigaon. Hehehe Then the word "Samok" we use it in a different way. Other term for samok in hiligaynon is "sabad". It can either mean nakikisaw-saw or magulo ka o nangugulo ka. 😊 that's all. I am an ilocano working now in cebu and one time during an orientation, one of the officers who is from cebu started talking to everyone in binisaya even though he knew that at least half of the manpower are from luzon. We requested for him to speak in tagalog instead so that everyone could understand. Sabi ba naman kayo ang mag-aral ng bisaya(mag-adjust) dahil nasa cebu kayo. I mean, wtf.

I agree that the officer is being rude. He can either speak in English or Tagalog during orientation for the understanding of everyone. But since you are working and staying in Cebu for a quite some time, we greatly appreciate it if Non-Cebuano speaking people assimilate to the Cebuano culture. It is expected that in 6 months to 1 year time , you can already comprehend and communicate at least 20%-30% Cebuano. You cannot ask a Cebuano to adjust for you all the time but that doesn't mean Cebuanos are not willing to help. As long as we see you try, we are more than happy to lend you a hand. But if we feel you don't want to adjust knowing that you've stayed long in Cebu, its either, nobody will talk to you or they'll response in Cebuano or English. For your information, it takes a lot effort for a Cebuano to speak Tagalog. Most Cebuanos doesn't like and are unwilling to make that effort so we'll rather talk in Cebuano or English. Learn to speak the language; it's for your own good. And how great would that be that you're able to learn and communicate in a new different language. And just to let you know, Cebuanos would do the same thing if ever we'll be in a Non-Cebuano speaking place. We will do our best to learn and speak your language no matter how funny we may sound. There you go!

@@eevee3360 we're starting to learn the language little by little. That incident happened during an orientation. We've just stayed in cebu for only 3 days so dont expect all of us to learn the langauage in that short period of time. We explained that to him but the response is not so pleasing. I dont want to generalize, maybe he's got some bad experience working with other filipinos before.

I love this vid hahaha I have girlfriend who came from Eastern Samar. And I really wanted to learn her languange but she's too busy to teach me. There are times kasi na I felt so stupid not knowing their dialect. Especially when she's having convo with her college friend from there hometown.

Actually the bisaya term for kiss is "halok". "Chula" in the other hand is a specific type of kiss. It is the bisaya term for french kiss. It is somehow considered as a vulgar term for some bisaya.
