I agree with you about The Dericott tales by Melanie Dickerson. I made a valiant effort to read the 3rd book in the series and could not finish it. It was definitely the writing quality, as well as several other things that threw me off. It's such a bummer and I really did not want to give up on her new books. Don't feel bad though, it's not an age thing. I'm 15 and found problems with it. But I digress. On a better note, I am looking forward to reading A Thieving Curse. It sounds simply fascinating. I'm thrilled you have found fantasy books that meet your appreciation.

It’s so sad about so many not loving her newer books like her older books! 😩😭 Ooh, I hope you enjoy A Thieving Curse! I’m excited I’ve found some too! 💗💗

I agree with the writing style of Melanie Dickerson. They feel like they were written for a much younger audience

You’re such a sweet person. I love your honesty. It sounds like Tracie Peterson’s older books didn’t “age well”. I haven’t read any of those, but I do like her newer ones. Thank you for your ministry. 💖

Aww, thank you so much for your sweet words! 💗 Which of Tracie Peterson’s newer books are some you’ve enjoyed? 🥰

@@LindseyfromBFCG I liked Along the Rio Grande that is set in Santa Fe. I plan to reread it this year. I remember it shared the gospel twice and it was just a good story. Trains and tamales…I’m there!

@ReadJournalLove ooooh, tamales! Now I’m hungry! 😁🥰 I will definitely check those out! Thank you for the recommendation! 💗

I agree about Melanie Dickerson in that I really think The Golden Braid was her last good book and it has just been downhill from there. The term is non magical fantasy-historical fantasy is technically a historical setting/event with fantasy elements (Fawkes by Nadine Brandes is a perfect example of this). I loved hearing your thoughts on A Thieving Curse even though I got grilled, LOL!!! 😂Though that scene you hated so much I hated and was blindsided by too when I first read it-I cried so much when that happened! 😭 But I’m so glad you liked it regardless! And if you think Tristan was bad (which he was), the villain in her other series, The Mercenary and the Mage, is 100 times worse and I wanted to crawl in the book just so I could kill him myself he was sooo awful. No redemption for that one! 😡🔥 And I’ve always heard “mage” pronounced like “age” but with a “mah” at the beginning-it sounds better then what Google said, anyways!

The Golden Braid was so fun! I really want to reread those original books, but I’m scared to do that, haha! 🤪😉😁 Ack, yes! You’re right about history fantasy! That didn’t even cross my mind when I said that. 🤦🏻♀️ Hahaha, love you, girl! 😂🥰🫶🏻 I can’t imagine someone worse than Tristan-okay, actually I can, but I don’t want to think about that! 😩🤨 Mage like age makes perfect sense and even sounds correct! Thank you, Sarah!

I think the term for a book like ‘The Highlander’s Victory’ is “kingdom adventure”? Anyhow, that’s what I’d use…

Oh! I’ve never heard that term before, but it fits it well! (So happy to see you on here, sweet friend!) 💗💗

I also tried reading Daughter of the Loom and I didn't care for the writing style. I however read Tracie Peterson's Tidings of Peace around Christmas and quite enjoyed it.

I totally agree with your thoughts on Natalie Walters. She's just NOT my kind of author. Way too much secular content! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy that Tracie Peterson series. I might agree with you when it comes to her older books. However, I absolutely LOVED her Brookstone Brides series and her Golden Gate Secrets series!!! Her Brookstone Brides series was the first Historical Fiction I had ever read and it got me HOOKED on Historical!
@LindseyfromBFCG9 ай бұрын
I’m glad I’m not alone about her books! It’s disappointing because I always want to find a new suspense author to look out for! 😞 I have the Golden Gate Secrets series on my TBR! It sounds interesting, so I have higher hopes for it! I’ll have to look into the other one you mentioned! 💗

How come if a male is seven years older than a female it is accepted but if a female is seven years older than a male it is weird. It just seems a little sexist to me. My mom is four years older than my dad and they have had an amazing relationship for 40 years, still understand why an age gap makes people uncomfortable. Especially if it’s two consenting godly adults, and they are both over the age of 18.
@LindseyfromBFCG9 ай бұрын
It’s not sexist at all, it just not what I’m used to seeing. Doesn’t make it right or wrong. I know plenty of couples where the wife is older than her husband, but I don’t personally know if any with age gap of 5+ years. The opposite of the husband being older, though, I know a handful including my own parents. I definitely don’t mean that to be sexist, please don’t misunderstand me. It was just a comparison between how the couples were presented in both books and in different time periods. The male love interest in the contemporary book was older and in the historical book, the female love interest was older. Which it’s typically the reverse in at least the historical time period (especially regency books like that one was). Both relationships were obviously different and it was interesting to read those two books almost back-to-back and view the differences. I hope this makes sense and you understand what I mean. :)

I read The Wings of Poppy Pendleton and I hated the beginning but I loved the end and the forgiveness and how love heals all. I liked it but not loved it. Of course I had to buy it because my maiden name is Pendleton. But you are correct. There is a lot of heartache, trauma, and sadness. That is life. That's why we have Jesus.
@LindseyfromBFCG9 ай бұрын
That’s neat to see your last name (well, maiden name) in a book! I can’t blame you for buying it. 😉 Definitely so glad and thankful that we have Jesus! ❤️
