I'm completely shocked by the results of this test, 2.3 miles/KWh at 130KMH is woefully high consumption. Is this owing to the aerodynamics? When you get most cars achieving 3.4 (ish) or more at these speeds. Great that you provide the consumption figures in Mi/KWh, I wish more would do this especially when they provide an English speaking version of their channel.

It's interesting how KIA is messing around with heat pumps. Because we in Czechia have them as standard equipment from the Earth trim, which with a large battery costs €44,000 including VAT.

We have heat pump in Czechia included in 2/3 of configurations. For cheapest configuration is possible to add this for 35k CZK. Thus, you just can buy this car in Czechia;)

How is it possible not to have the heat pump option in Netherlands??? What's next? No air condition for the Ev3 sold in Greece?

Great video, sorry there is not a heat pump option in NL. There will be at least one EV3 in NL next week with a heat pump as we are visiting on a road trip.

wouldn’t it be wiser for NORDIC countries to actually have a heat pump as standard, lol?

That's a useful video, thanks! I've got a EV3 Air 81kWh on order. Here in the Uk, the only way to get a heat pump is as an optional extra on the GT Line S specification, pushing it over £44,500 (52,700 euros) once you option some non-orange paint. We will pay an extra £400 road tax/year for 5 years from April 2025, for EV's over £40,000, so the heat pump option is out of reach for most. I'm hoping the smaller 17" wheels, having it garaged/preconditioned and keeping to 19 degrees when I need the heating on will help with efficiency.

The really stupid thing is that the „normal“ GT is just under 40k mark, but if you select another colour but red you are just over 40k. So either you don’t care about the colour or you pay for the colour and the £490 every year
@lw2978

@@POTThaesslich I agree that for many, it's a tough choice to make. My missus wanted me to spend as little money as possible and she was okay with the standard paint. However, the more I looked at it, the worse it seemed, so I persuaded her to spend the extra on Frost blue, which I think is a fantastic colour-we went with Air spec (81kWh battery), so the luxury car tax wasn't going to be an issue for us. I just have to put some serious protection on it when I get it, as the Frost blue is a solid paint-I've had some issues in the past with other cars with solid colours whereas no problems with metallics or pearlescent finishes.

If the EV3 reaches 80% of its advertised range at 3°C i find it not too bad.

I’m in the UK and have the heat pump. Frankly I’m shocked by how my experience of much battery short winter use uses. A real shock for an e-Niro owner. I got better consumption in the EV3 on a longer trip so intend to experiment with the battery conditioning function. Luckily long range is more important for me in the warmer months.

Did you look at the energy information screen? In my Kona it quotes a % used for driving and heating and electronics for each drive. Would be interesting to compare vs a heat pump model

With my E-niro without eat pump, in the morning now i have that problem. Sometimes we just use the heat seats and the wheel. Now i'm with 13,59kW/100km this month. 90% of the time in city. At afternoon with 15ºC....

i always wonder why there is a difference from country to country if there is a heat pump available and sometimes the why there is a difference in what trim level it is available. Im pretty sure here in DK, the heatpump is on all trim levels, so for some countries simply not to have it, when it is that much more power efficient I don't get.

Here in Spain we only have access to the heat pump in the more expensive trim level (GT line). The worst thing is that it's not available even in an extra package...GT line or no heat pump

@@nachocollantes7602 yeah its really wierd, i would love to hear kia's reasoning behind these kinds of decisions, also othere car companies, they arent the only ones doing it, i dont really get why that needs to be different, when its so much more power efficient.

All the major motor manufacturers use a franchise model for car sales. Each country will have a franchisee who decides the specs of the cars for sale through their network. This is why you also see price and discount differences from country to country.

I do have a heatpump and the energy usage is pretty much the same when i compare them to the numbers you're giving. The first minute is even worse ramping up the power usage by a whopping 12-15 kw. Comparing to the same car without heatpump the difference is maybe 5-10km extra range. I have learned my lesson. The Netherlands is simply not cold enough for a heatpump to make financial sense. You would not even be able to earn back the cost in a decade.

I think the Netherlands is the only European country to not include the heatpump in the entire EV3 lineup which is strange because it sure gets cold for months here. On the other hand we have the premium audio system at the mid tier spec while I have seen that one being locked away to only the top trim

You are right, it is a dumb model political choice by Kia to only get the GT line only with the wasteful loud big wheels and not a heat-pump by design.
