About the song "Rechenka": This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.

Looking back, you're totally correct about her being lifted into the boat and honestly it's so hard to not waver or give any signs that external things are happening there. She is truly very skilled!

@@grieverproductions2022 It's because Diana really "isn't there" when she sings such songs! She goes into a sort of trance and allows the song to completely take over! Watch her very closely and you'll witness this phenomenon. Diana admitted this in an interview. She described it as "being somewhere else" and how sometimes it can take her several minutes to regain full control again. Her ability to convey raw emotions across to the listener is down to this, as if she lives the song feeling all the pain and emotions as if it he story were about herself! Her extremely sad but inspiring childhood provided her with all the understanding about pain, tragedy and strong emotions she now has of course.

I wrote this presentation to help the reactors: (I am not a professional but I have compiled information found on Diana's official website, in interviews and in reactions from singers and musicians) Your astonishment is not exceptional! Diana is an unique contralto (dramatic contralto) her comfort range is C3-C6 but in constant evolution. Diana uses many vocal techniques rarely used in pop music (like overtones, yodel, and some from lyric chant....). The one that seems to amaze people the most is multitonal (polyphonic) voice. Greetings, happy to see yet another Diana reaction video so fast. Imagine if Diana and Dimash had a collaboration together! Hi Jim (did I get your name right?) and thank you for this fine reaction. Diana is always good for a vocal surprise. And here you have a lot of them. Even the judges can't believe what they're hearing. A singing teacher once commented on this song that if he wrote down all the singing techniques Diana uses here, he would have a list of all the singing techniques. The song is about an orphan who is about to get married and goes to the river to talk to her parents and ask for their blessing. The river is the connection to the world of the dead. The celebration can be heard in the background. That's the swinging part of the music. You probably already know that Diana was in an orphanage. It seems to be her song. Hence all the emotions she expresses admirably here. Diana's acting, the scenery, the dancers. This is musical theatre - at its best. I also saw your comments on "Wicked Game" and learned a lot from it. A big thank you for that. There is a new TV show in Russia. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. Diana Ankudinova was 14 years old when her performance of Rechenka was recorded on May 12, 2018, during a program called You Are Super, a vocal competition for disadvantaged teens. It is already evident she is well on a path to becoming a true contralto voice and a true contralto is very, very rare. Some people are really curious about Diana’s vocal range, in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, her lower functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5, meaning Diana currently has almost a 3-octave range. it's not just about how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that many vocal professionals define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. So, the question becomes, how does Diana do it? How can such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, resonant, and profound sound? Without being able to scope her vocal tract while she is actually producing those low notes to see what is really happening, the general conciseness again of many vocal professionals seems simply to attribute Diana’s unique vocal ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds, (vocal cords), appear to be longer and thicker than most other female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be longer than other female singers. It’s this unique vocal anatomy that gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce those low, deep, rich, full sounds that along with her unique tone quality and her ability to access an enormous reservoir of resonance make her stand out, but without actually scoping her vocal track, there is no way to be 100% sure. But it’s more than just being born with unique vocal anatomy, it’s that Diana knows how to use it. It’s in her musicality and stage presence. It’s her ability to step into a character on stage and not just sing a song, but her ability to capture the audience and actually communicate with them on a personal level. This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. ( thank you "encrypter 46" ! ) Especially poignant, as Diana was abandoned as a child and raised in a Russian orphanage......Diana is a natural Contralto which, as you know, is the lowest female vocalist's register

Yeah I know, the issue I have is that KZbin gets very annoyed if the songs don't get stopped frequently. In fact putting this up at all was a hassle and was originally blocked worldwide until I disputed it. If I hadn't had so many breaks in the music it wouldn't have been able to be viewed at all unfortunately!

A few people have commented the translation so far so I get what you mean here. It reminds me very much of the theme song for the old show M*A*S*H*. The music sounds incredibly happy but once you look into the lyrics, it takes on an incredibly different meaning!

Thanks for the reaction,but misunderstanding meaning of the song! This is an old wedding ritual song, it's like a puzzle, it consists of phrases taken from ritual songs. Where it is sung in a whisper is like the words of a deceased mother, because in Russia since ancient times it was believed that the river is the border between the world of the living and the dead, as in the mythology of others countries. So the girl-orphan came to the river to tell the mother that she was being given away for the unloved, to a strange family, ask for blessings and cry.
