This looks exactly like what my late mom used to make, one of my favorites. I've been trying to find a recipe for sometime. Thanks!

I wish you would have scooped a little out because I have never seen anyone mix the cornbread into the meat. I really wanted to see what it looked like in the middle.
@SimplyHonestLiving6 жыл бұрын
I featured it in the Meals of the Week (9/9/17 to 9/13/17) video that follows this recipe video so you can see a bit of the inside. It mixes fairly evenly, so there is no separation between the cornmeal and the meat mixture.

I have made tamale pie ( not this recipe) with the corn meal mixed in and it is really good It was on the old Alberts cornmeal box! I lost it. The last ti me I looked on the box it seemed changed. It was easy. The simpler a recipe for tamale pie the better!
@benicio19674 жыл бұрын
Jeanie Delgado do you think it would work if you swapped out the cornmeal for jiffy cornbread mix?
@tmo66954 жыл бұрын
Gilmour11 should be fine. Just remember jiffy has a bit of sweetness to it.

This looks delicious! But there is a point of confusion. In the written recipe on the video it says 1 1/2 cups cornmeal. But during the actual video it appears you used 3 cups of cornmeal. Which is it? ty

Thank you for replying. I didn't even notice that written over on the left in white. Now I can tell my caregiver while she gets everything together how much we need. I sit in my wheelchair at the table very nicely telling her what to do being from another country she doesn't cook these sorts of foods. I write cookbooks of all my own created recipes I had one published when I lived in Morocco but things published in Morocco stay in Morocco. I also had a food column and a website and so on. One would think I would have seen that recipe on the side.

How do you stop the onions from making your fridge and freezer smells like onion?!!
@SimplyHonestLiving7 жыл бұрын
Sara Deneault Hmm....Actually, I don't notice an onion smell at all! Maybe try double-bagging if you can smell them?
@penelopelaclaire49736 жыл бұрын
I am 41 yrs old and I will either put my onions in a Tupperware bowl or a name brand plastic bag. If you're doing that and you still smell onions then combine putting onion in bag then into Tupperware bowl. That should stop the smell completely!!

Unusual take on tamale pie. This is what I'd call Mexican cornbread sans jalapeños. Tamale pie has cornbread on top....meat on bottom. Looks good though.

I went to meals of the week and I could see what it looks like cut into and I would love to make it it looks delicious only with veggie ground beef. However neither here nor there provides any measurements and I have a caregiver who needs to help me cook. I cannot go through the whole video to get one dish made it would be time for her to go home before it was done! I really wanted to save this recipe and use it because I have everything in the house to make it.
