Jens Soering's father was a German Vice Consul (here in the US). He then confessed to a double-murder, believing that he had diplomatic immunity. He spent nearly three decades in a prison in Virginia before being deported deported back to Germany. So, no immunity for this gentleman.

@@justinedoner8576 If he would have had diplomatic immunity, Mr. Soering could not have been prosecuted in Virginia. However, only some diplomats (and their children) have immunity - for example an ambassador. Mr. Soering's father was vice consul, the father of this individual is Consul - so, no, they do NOT have immunity. Now, *if* Mr. Soerings father would have been the German ambassador, then there would have been two options: First: Germany could have waived the immunity (unlikely) Second: Jens Soering would have been deported back to Germany and the German justice system would have prosecuted him. In that case, he would most likely have been prosecuted as a youthful offender and gotten away with 10 years or less.

An American used this defense in 2019 after killing 19yr old Harry Dunn in the UK in a traffic accident. Hopped on the first flight back to the USA to evade arrest and our government protected her. Eventually, from years of negotiations, she got a slap on the wrist & ZERO jail time, she didn’t even attend the hearing in person. The US government told her not to risk going. This isn’t just something that happens here by foreigners, US diplomats have taken advantage of this protection just as much.

This young man has used his privilege in the US to do what he wants thinking he has immunity. His father, a lawyer, probably thinks that as well. He should know better. He enabled his son to repeatedly violate the law and he has gotten away with it. I also think his father sent him to US to get out of mandatory military service required in Israel. Time for a reality check for both of them. The state department stepped in and plan to procecute him after an investigation. While most US citizens agree he should be prosecuted, they don't apply the same standards for US citizens who commit crimes in other countries. There have been several cases of crimes committed by US citizens, including murder in the UK that have come back to US with no legal ramifications to the crimes they committed and the US allows this.

In 2019 in the U.K. a poor lad named Harry Dunn was killed in a car crash by an American based at an RAF base who quickly fled back to the states and claimed diplomatic immunity. The killer was speeding while driving on the wrong side of the road. I used to work at an amusement park in Florida and the amount of Diplomats and their families demanding the paperwork to get around paying the tax on a single Coke or a candy bar was surprising to me. That's obviously not a major issue but is annoying when you are trying to deal with a long line. Also, the way the children of Diplomats acted in the parks was downright gross.

A threat of a false prosecution over a diplomat's son is a lot of leverage to apply to a diplomat in international discussions. So I'm not certain I agree 100%. I think they need to require the agreement of the diplomat's own government in each instance however a refusal should be exceptional rare.

I worked at a pizza parlor @14. They hired a driver and he was always late on deliveries. The manager told him don't worry about the speed limits cause he has a deal worked out with the PD. His deliveries picked up speed and the delivery driver became more and more cocky and arrogant to everybody around him as he felt he was untouchable, even getting attitude with the manager. One day a cop tried to pull him over and he didn't stop, he just just shouted out the window he works at the pizza parlor and to go away. Another unit joined just as he got to his delivery and they drew down on the pizza driver. The driver exclaimed "You idiots!" "I work at the pizza parlor, we have a deal worked out with you!!" The cop replied "I don't know what you're talking about!" "Drop the pizza and get on the ground, NOW!" They questioned my Manager about the deal with the police and he acted like he had no clue what they're talking about. The pizza delivery drivers mugshot made the local gazette with a very similar crybaby face as the punk in this video. True story. Probably.
