Shock tuning video(s) in work! I hope we can capture how awesome the truck feels in video

And I always thought a drill press would need to mounted to a table! Maybe I need to get one sooner than I thought!?
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
I've never had this mounted lol. It's actually pretty convenient to be able to move it around and save work bench space when Im not using it
@treasureseekerintheway35154 жыл бұрын
Looks like a ton of fun! Nice idea for the plasma cutter template, saved some work for your poor drill press. Looks like you need to build a work bench!
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have the bench that I use for welding, but half the time it's hurried against the wall in the garage lol

I definitely was able to gather how the truck handled through the Google tube, goggles

Hey Kris and Chris, Love all the vids you guys put up. Keep it up. Question for ya, what plasma cutters are you guys using? How thick can it cut? Thanks
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
The main one we use is a Miller Spectrum 375. We have yet to exceed its ability when running on 220v. I have cut through a chunk of 1/2” bar with it easily, but the majority of what we cut is between 18 gauge sheet metal and 3/16” plate. I also used a Cornwell mmwp125i to cut some sheet metal out of the Stuburban. It works well for sheet metal, but takes a while to get through 1/8”. It will get through it though.

The coilovers should still have valving in them. you want your shocks to work together to split the load between the two.
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
It is not uncommon to use the coilover as only a coilcarrier, but I do want to put valves back into it. These were used bypasses with unknown valving and it was more efficient to take the coilover valves out and see what dampening that only the bypass shocks yield
@carbonshocks4 жыл бұрын
@@RecklessWrenchGarage You're correct that people have done it however it kind of doesn't make sense. At the end of the day the goal of a suspension is to transfer energy from the movement of your axle into heat. as with any kind of heat transfer you want to be able to dissipate that heat across as wide and areas possible This is why trophy trucks have moved to the bigger shocks that you see upwards of five and even six inches around. There's no logical sense to remove the valving from the coil over when you can use it to dampen and provide help to the bypass shock. Often the problem people have is they go to light on valving and they break shims so there's other variables that come to play but at the end of the day ideally you want valving in both the coilover and the bypass shock to complement each other and work together as a team to spread the load.
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yeah getting both to work together is something we are working towards. It's easier for us to work with one parameter at a time to start shock tuning. I don't intend to leave the valves out forever, that would be a waste of a nice shock.

I’m going to run a leaf spring system in the back of my Silverado and was really set on those bilstein bypasses how have they been holding up for you ?
@brandonc48974 жыл бұрын
Nice work! Excited to see the next video. What travel shocks did you use and how much axle travel did you end up with?
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
The bypass and coilover are 16 inch travel. I could use a 14 inch coilover with the trailing arms but I just used what I had. I ended up with 21 inches of travel but I have it strapped right at 20 inches

Please let me know if ur running a 150 over 200 or if you changed with the trailing arms
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
Before the trailing arms I had 100/150, with the trialing arms I am currently using 150/150 but I will be going to a 150/200 or 150/250.

Thanks I think I’m going 150 over 250 on my ranger, and hope for the best!!! Gotta be better then the deavers I had!! Love the videos brother, I learn quite abit from you guys!!!!

did you do a video on the rear trailing arms?
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
We have the video of building the arms but we have not put anything out about installing the arms. I changed the frame side bracket to mount outside the frame rail instead of under the frame so I would have more clearance on the shocks next to the frame in the rear. There is a clip in this video where you can see the new bracket

What’s the Benefit of dual shocks?
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
In this application the coilover shock does not have valves (currently) so only the bypass is doing the dampening on the rear. The bypass has tubes that bypass oil around the Piston so there can be different dampening zones and it had external adjustability. Theres a lot of info about how bypasses work but it is too much for this video. I may do a video on just bypass shocks in the future
