I had a thought watching this, could you plumb in a pipe to the outlet of the reco turn it round so the new pipe you attached to it goes through a wall into the next door room and heats that?? Just a thought or up to the room above?? Keep up the good work Mr Ttortoise
@MegaSweep12 жыл бұрын
I did exactly that but it lost too much heat,using a insulated pipe would have helped
@TheTortoise2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not, it does lose too much heat. You may be able to increase the length so that you could fit a bent outlet on it in case you wanted to fit one to a stove with a rear outlet, but that is it.

Nicely presented video, thanks. But a few questions arise from assertions made in this and the other video on this product.... "It hugely increases the efficiency of the stove..." Can you quantify that. "Hugely" implies something like by several times. Is that true? Is the heat produce by the whole unit now several times original? And "it pushes the heat all round the house" You imply some form of distribution system. I only saw the nozzle. I can accept that the nozzle on the flue would increase room distribution, but the whole house? How? And "the air out the nozzle is 4 x the volume." If you look up the chart for expansion of air at various temperatures, the air exiting the nozzle needs to be about 900C to be 4 x the volume (0.25 x the density). (assuming 20C room temp) Did you measure the exit temp and find it near 900C? That's a temp above that where steel glows orange, and is nearly white.

If I grew by 20% I would be hugely tall, and given that this provides around 1kw of heat, I think of this as a huge increase with a 5kw stove. But you’re right, this is subjective. And obviously if you have a bigger stove, then the % increase is smaller, but the physical changes in temperature are potentially larger. I will discover this when I test it with a 10-14kw stove, which is coming soon next year. With regard to the way it affects a house, I have done a test of this on my own house which may be worth watching (if you’re at all interested). Finally with regard to the air expansion, you’re correct, it is actually 3x not 4. There was some confusion because if it doubles in size and then doubles again then that is 4x, but in actual fact it doubles in size and increases by the same amount again equalling 3x the size. Apologies for the mistake.

Will soot burn off coil? Will build up reduce effectiveness? Can it only be max 22cm height flue above stove to work? Won't longer pump hose reduce air flow - like a max water fountain height, or is that just relavent to water being pumped upwards? I could place mine with dedicated smart plug under stairs not far away & bring copper pipe through wall to rear of stove, all neatly (stair renovation will allow incorporation)
@TheTortoise2 жыл бұрын
Yea there is no issue with a longer pipe at all. The issue with water is you have the same power but the longer the hose the more weight it has to push, but with air there is no weight slowing things down.

Looks a bit Heath Robinson for my liking. There’s a much more advanced system called Turbo Heat abroad which sends the warm air all round a house. To be fair that is much more expensive. I think this system could easily be passive without the need for a pump.

Interesting points. I'll look up Turbo Heat. Living in CH twenty + years ago I came across France Turbo who made a stove with an integral hot air redistribution system.

What is the diameter of the pipe inside the RECO also, what is the metal grade and wall thickness of the unit Mr. T

Hi, I did ask a different question on the 1st video and now I have another question on this video haha... Has it made a difference to other rooms in terms of temperature? Do you have any vents in your ceiling so the heat can go upstairs easier? Awesome videos, I'll watch the next one now hahaha and when I buy one I will use your affiliate link! :D Thanks again!
@TheTortoise2 жыл бұрын
No vents in the ceiling in my place, but there again there is no insulation in any ceilings either. I’ve got stoves going a lot now, otherwise 10° would be more than possible right now!

What is your opinion on adding a recoheat to a modern efficient stove? I have a morso 4410 which supposedly is 81% efficient. My stove installer told me that it would be inappropriate on a modern stove and may even cause issues… It feels like it still makes total sense to me however…would really appreciate your impartial thoughts.
@TheTortoise2 жыл бұрын
I don’t see an issue with it at all. The stove I was using with it is similar efficiency, and also Eco-design. My expectation is that you’d have less issues as modern stoves will run cleaner. Having said that it doesn’t surprise me at all that the fitter isn’t rushing to add one for you. Fitters are insanely busy, so it’s not surprising that returning to installations to do little tweaks is not their first priority at the moment.

Is the flue fitting a universal fitting
@TheTortoise2 жыл бұрын
They make them in the usual sizes: 5”,6” and 7”. I’ve connected it with several different pipes without issue, and whilst my black pipe was not the same coupling it connected fine with no issues. A lot of people will find they just use the (extendable pipe Recoheat) without needing to connect it to other pipes other than the liner adaptor (which of course are designed to be universal). So in other words… I’ve not experienced, seen or heard of any issues connecting the Recoheat 😆.

I'm in need of some help or advice. I've had a contura stoves 810 fitted . The instructions say it needs a 6" flue however it has been installed with a 5" flue and every time I open the door the house stinks of smoke has it been installed incorrectly? I have a clear view stove at a different property I've never had this issue so I don't think it's me doing it wrong. Thanks for any help you can give
@TheTortoise2 жыл бұрын
The installation instructions do say 150mm or 6” and a flue that is too small would explain the issues you describe 😬. I know that the Scan-Line 8 stove, which we’ve tested before does also have a 6” outlet, however they have recently produced an optional 5” outlet that can be bolted to it. It’s possible that Contura make something similar and it isn’t featured in the instructions, so I would just call the fitter and ask initially. If there is a draw issue he will need to check that anyway, but presumably they also fitted a CO alarm that should go off if there is an issue (they’re normally very sensitive). I hope that’s useful.

@@TheTortoise thank you for getting back to me. It's a definite 6" hole on the top of the stove with 2 lots of fire rope filling it not a 6" to5" outlet They did fit a co2 but it's not going off however the house stinks of smoke. I will get them back to look at the fire something isn't right. Thanks for your help

@@grahammawdsley4864 yes I think you need to. It sounds like either they’ve run out of 6” pipe (stock is now a problem on flues as well as stoves) or they didn’t have enough space to fit 6” and rather than saying you need a different stove they’ve just given it a go with 5”. I hope it’s an easy solve 🤞😳

@@TheTortoise there is room for a 6" I think he thought it might just be easier using 5" I've spoken with the manufacturer they tell me you can use a 5" with a 5m chimney and an external air vent. I've definitely not got one of them I'll be calling them tomorrow I'll let you know how I get on 👍

It's not free heat you have to run the pump🎉 no mention of watts on the pump. When the reco goes in a hole there's carbon monoxide being pumped straight into the room..why risk you and your family life.
@TheTortoise Жыл бұрын
It’s probably actually worth watching the video, because these assumptions are definitely incorrect. If a hole were to develop in it, because it is under pressure in fact the opposite would happen. CO wouldn’t go into the room, air would simply go into the chimney. People often worry about gaps in pipes etc, but they haven’t realised that like an open fire (which has a huge hole) air goes into the chimney, not the other way around. Not to mention stoves air vents which are exactly that again, holes that air goes into. With regard to running the pump, I’ve forgotten the size, but the running cost is genuinely minute, and they’re also very reliable. Obviously products like this don’t appear because it’s all a trick to poison people and raise their electricity bills. Surely we believe in humanity more than that!
