Here I show a falsing signal and compare it to an obvious good signal, in hopes of helping frustrated new Equinox users cut down on the amount of junk targets they dig while getting used to the machine. On good targets co-located with iron it can be a little more tricky, so the old saying still holds true.. When in doubt, dig it out.

Nice video. I find that if I dig a plug and the pinpointer indicates that the signal is at the side of the hole, it is iron 95% of the time. I realize that this doesn't save anybody from digging the plug, but it can help one cut their losses if in a hurry.

Thinking about purchasing the 800 Equinox and enjoyed your video. Currently have the X-Terra 705 and not having the best of luck lately. Too much trash in my areas I guess. If fencing wire and nails were considered relics, I could open up a museum! Thanks for the tips, I would think some of them would apply to the 705 as well and I'll employ them and may just upgrade soon enough! Thanks again!

Just trying to catch up buddy!🤣 GREAT examples and descriptions of the two. Many an “old timer” have told me...THE most difficult thing you’ll have to learn is the difference between these two. It’s not always obvious but training your ear is the best way to come away with more good targets than bad. Coil control and paying attention to that one spot....well done again!😃

@@MetalDetectingNWGA To be honest...I sold my first one out of what turned out to be nothing but spite. Spite for ALL of the people (“reputable people”!) who were saying the EQX was consistently out hunting their CTX and FBS machines. Just NOT true. I liked the 800 for when the CTX gets a bit heavy, for the recovery speed when needed, for being able to switch to a single freq to escape EMI....I liked the machine as a whole. “Out hunting the CTX”? Utter and complete nonsense. It’s just a different tool, one that I can make better use of the second time around because I’m going to put all of the rhetoric and nonsense behind me and use it for what it’s good for...being an EQX.
@MetalDetectingNWGA

@@wizardsofwisconsin7400 I couldn't agree more on all of the above. I love my Equinox and I reach for it every time I'm hunting a trashy spot where that speed will benefit me. But you see what I use more often than not. For the type of hunting I do, the CTX is just hard to beat. Honestly, I'd hate to be without either one of them. They both have their place. Now if Minelab could figure out a way to combine Multi-IQ and FBS into a single lightweight detector? I'd be all over it! Imagine having a lighter weight CTX running FBS with the traditional flutey tones and accurate ID, but with a "turbo" button that switches to a high recovery speed multi or even single frequency machine. I'm not even sure if that's possible, but if it was, take my money please!

I have a place that I've pounded so hard for several years with multiple detectors that ALL I find there now with the equinox are nickels completely on edge and wheaties 6 or 7 inches deep co-located with nails! Every once in a while I'll bring up a deep silver after a good rain... but those falsing sounds are sure familiar to me! You learn to interpret them REAL quick after a pocketful of nails and only one or two wheaties! Thanks for the video.

Careful about your choice of words. Falsing is different from giving a bogus high TID on iron (which is a common problem with rusted iron targets). Falsing generally means that the detector sounds off when nothing is there and in most cases is caused by having too high of a sensibility setting.
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 3 жыл бұрын
The term I used may indeed be incorrect. To be clear, for the purposes of this video I'm referring to false good signals. Meaning ferrous targets reading similar to non-ferrous targets. I usually refer to it as falsing iron, though that too may be technically incorrect. Hopefully the demonstration shows a good enough example that most folks will still understand what I'm talking about. :)

@@MetalDetectingNWGA Falsing is exactly what your video describes here. I'm new to this sport; however, according to the blogs (metaldetectingforum_com) and videos I've gone through, you are correct. The term 'falsing' appears to be applied in other areas such as EMI and improper ground balancing and sensitivity settings (or as he puts it, "sensibility setting" ;) as Walter above mentions. BTW: Thanks for the great tips.

Nails especially rusty ones will 99% of the time be off to the side of the hole but a coin can also be masked you can see how the nail was off to the side. I just dug two SLQ’s in a heavy hit park that were masked by rusty nails I bet most would have never dug that signal when I removed the nail I had a 30 on my Nox turned out to be two SLQ’s I do know for a fact that if you hunt saltwater deep silver will do the same thing horrible signal but you have to dig them .
