(Speaking in terms that non-Shadow Systems owners can understand)... I took the DR920 (G-17 non-comped version) and XR920p (G-45 comped version) to the range last week, and the XR920p outshot the DR920 in recoil reduction. When I got home, I removed the RMR from the DR920 and installed it on the XR920p. The DR920 has been placed on the 'soon to be sold' side of the safe.

I have the XR920P for five weeks now. Compared to my equally built-out G45 with Ramjet/AfterBurner/Compressor the P is much better, at least for me. Using the included backstrap I now have a neutral angle which I prefer. After one issue with the P that SS took care (3 weeks downtime) I now have at least 2500 rounds at nightly COF's. I put at least $2000 into the G45, mostly due to aftermarket triggers and other upgrades that lost their tolerances and failed after 30K of use, the P needs nothing, other then the 507 ACSS. I have a TLR-1 HL but not using it yet. One thing that I started experimenting with yesterday is that thumb ledge. While working at the static line I found the right technique that works for me to keep it from rising. I went from 2 or 3 out on a bill drill to 0 out, which for me, at my senior age and only been shooting for couple years now, was amazing. 124 TMC or TMJ's range and tested with 147/150 HST for EDC. Wish a bit larger ledge but I just need to train some more. I love this gun.
@TacticalConsiderations6 ай бұрын
making the glock version is far more expensive but thye are so damn close in performance. So save a grand or build a G45.
@toddtzm6 ай бұрын
@@TacticalConsiderations True but there are other factors to consider that skew performance. The Glock grip is fatter, which for those like myself with shorter index finger your right hand has to be a perfect draw. I sometimes pull left if my finger doesn't have good placement. Shadow is thinner and easier to get on it, so I can pull straight back. Johnny Glock solves some of that with the shoe being set back. But an expensive upgrade, though well worth it! Also, the trigger guard is larger on the XR so easier to use gloves in a cold climate. Also, easier to slide right off the frame and be on it. After 2500 rounds I clock in at 3.6.4 in trigger weight. Hopefully it holds there as the round count increases. Don't want what happened to my Glock Performance Trigger after 5000+ rounds, going from its original 4.2.4 to 3.1.1. Too light for me for EDC. Wasn't just a fluke. Happened to my shooting partner as well. Johnny comes in at 3.10.8, which is fine. All in all I tend to agree with your excellent unbiased review! The viewers can decide what is best for them.

Which one has less recoil though? Can you tell the difference?
@toddtzm6 ай бұрын
@@sirlongschlong69They are too similar for me to tell in specific recoil metrics. But the SS to me is better balanced, better angled, better grip, tighter tolerances, which all help me shoot more accurately.

@tedlava5 ай бұрын
@@TacticalConsiderations How are they different? The CZ P-10C also has a partially-cocked striker, just like the Glock (and all of its clones, like Shadow Systems). I know the trigger "bar" on the CZ is more of a trigger "cage" since it has a rectangular section to go around the magazine, and the drop-safety is different. But they are both still extremely similar in that when you remove the take-up on the trigger and get to the wall, that is what finishes cocking the striker. That's why these are the only two designs of striker-fired guns where you can have a Striker Control Device (the one for Glock is from Langdon Tactical and the P-10C is made by Danforth Designs). In this other video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2jTq4Ofhtt_eZYsi=ER7g-V4wZKZ8azyb&t=3039), you can even see the sear is moving forward and backward as the trigger is pulled forward and backward.

XR920 has been my carry for over a year, it shoots very flat to me now do you think it would be worth doing any kind of comp work too or keep rocking? Non threaded barrel too so I’d be looking at barrel and all to add one. Just wondering if it’s really worth it?
@TacticalConsiderations6 ай бұрын
No reason to get rid of it and start over but I have heard they may offer these comps and barrel separately soon.

Use a MR918 frame for my Frankenstein-competition “laster with a b before the L”. It does what I need it to. Conservative estimate is over 7k rounds, so far.

I got to say I held a shadow systems and obv glocks ..you know who did it right in my opinion..GST9 that thing has awesome ledges for your support thumb for recoil and it has a grip that can be changed ..love the deep cut under the slide..dont know if i would trust my life to a GST9 frame but i like the way it shoots 😂

I have no idea what people are talking about with that.

Have a mr920 for edc. Been carrying it for over 2 years just ordered the mr920p. Going to keep the mr920. But summer carry I'm thinking sct43 with my c1 slide.

I would like to see a comparison of this to the Canik TTi Combat. Price and features are similar I believe.

I've been looking at this as a winter carry option...but I also would love the new BUL SAS II UL Pro.. PS. Glad to see other people using cars to illustrate value. There are people who can't see a reason to buy anything beyond a Honda Civic, and then there are people who will bust ass to be able to afford a BMW M5 or a Porsche 911 Turbo S.

That BUL is amazing.

As always great post. I haven't gotten a SS yet been on the fence about getting one. I have been leaning away from the plastic pew pews lately for some reason. I guess I have to many or is that possible LOL. Keep them rolling and we will keep watching👍

I bought the threaded comp that Shadow Systems released not too long ago and threw it on my MR920. My question is, has anyone seen a difference between the "snap on" comp and the threaded comp recoil wise? Just curious.

Mike they put better components inside I believe coated . You may have not experienced bad components in older models but I have ( connectors failed broken snapped in half . They sent me entire trigger group replacements and they failed too. So replaced them myself with Glock performance trigger groups, no issues. Many folks across the country experienced the same issues. Shadow systems knew about it , completely ran of trigger groups in stock , so no replacement where available for some time . K

Interesting. I had one issue on my first shadow like 5 years ago with an out of spec bar.

@@TacticalConsiderations There you go , maybe these new guns have higher quality components 🤞time will tell , we just keep shooting them hopefully they learned ( Shadow Systems) . You really can’t cut cost on components or quality, Glock found that out a few times in the past lol . Thanks for your response K

I have liked the Glock 17 a lot anyway since I got my first one during college in 1992. Every gun I get I envision never picking up my Glock again but never really works that way. I like the comp on my Hellcat RDP even though I hate micro guns categorically the comp does help whether it be science or placebo ... either way. I'm definitely interested in what Shadow Systems is up to.

I’m looking for a flat shooting gun. I want a striker fired light weight gun. How does this rank amongst the guns you shot as far as flat shooting? Is there anything better?

Out of the box its really tough to beat unless you get into a 2011.

I looked at these pistols, but I concluded that I’m just a hammer fired da/da or LEM guy. Strikers make me feel so uneasy
@TacticalConsiderations6 ай бұрын
Hammer love.

Not every striker is a P320 lol.. If you feel that uneasy that easily then you probably shouldn't carry at all

I bought 1,000 of blazer and all of it was bad. The projectile would just fall out of the casing. I would not doubt it if you have the same lot number.

That pistol seems to have a more gradual grip angle than most Glocks, was it just my hope and view or was it more neutral?
@TacticalConsiderations6 ай бұрын
Shadows have a more neutral angle depending on back straps.

Factory Glock for me but Shadow Systems is doing just fine without me. Planning on buying the Glock 49 and it looks like Shadow got that configuration first

Man… I’m actually glad I don’t yet have my CCW yet, for this scenario anyhow… I would’ve already decided on a pistol, which I’ve since decided against, and I’d written off any thought of a comp’d pistol, as my state doesn’t allow threaded barrels. This seems like the perfect fit for me, so I’ll see, if in the next 9-10 months if something better doesn’t come along. Thank you!

I had a squib load same as you about 6 months ago when I was at the range. Luckily it was same as yours so when I did a tap rack the next round wouldn’t load.
