When we came to the US in 1971, the first burger I ever had was a Gino's Giant and to this day, it still surpasses the Big Mac. Wonderful memories of "our" Gino's on Kirkwood Highway in Newark, DE.

@@billk8579 I have no idea, Dundalk was for family then, but we moved out in the mid 70's. We were always in the poorer neighborhoods (apts) but my Aunt and Uncle had a row home on Jay Dee Ave, so they were one of the regular families. The inner city use to be bad, but it was a small area, now I have heard it all bad, most families back then moved up from the south and kids knew you had better watch your manner and behavior or al of the parents would tattle on you and you'd get whooped.

I grew up in the suburbs of Philly, Gino's was the first fast food restaurant to come to our hometown in the late 60's. It was the High School "hang" for several years, especially after football games. Lot's of great memories - thanks so much for doing this video!

Yes before Mc Donald’s in towns outside Philly there was Gino’s. Mine was in Clifton Heights and yes they were good burgers. It this day Mc Donald’s has a sub standard burger only kids would like.

@@suestephan3255 My hometown was Phoenixville, near King of Prussia, but most of my family was from Upper Darby, (Highland Park, Kirklyn, Bywood, Clifton Heights, Broomall, etc...). My eldest sister started working at our Gino's when they opened, the girls wore dresses that had red and white vertical stripes...lol. I was about 5yrs old at the time and can remember being so thrilled when my parents brought us to Gino's for dinner while she was working. I'm glad it remained there throughout my youth, I think it's now a Dairy Queen but it's gone through several changes in the past 35+ years. I now live in Georgia, no one's ever heard of it down here...lol.

I loved Gino's as a kid in the 1970s. That was where we went for a treat more often than any other restaurant. I remember it was a combined Ginos/KfC in upper Roxborough, on Ridge Ave at Domino lane. I remember great burgers, fries and milk shakes. I seem to remember them giving out their disposable work hats to kids....and we wore them!!!! They also has toy giveaways sometimes.

As a young boy, my Mom & Dad would take me to Gino's! We lived in Chesaco Park, Maryland. I always got a thrill, every time we went, because this was the famous Gino from the Baltimore Colts. And the food was delicious!!!!! Thanks for bringing back some Great memories of my early childhood. I am 63 years old at this present time. Thank you and God bless. I needed this. Both my Mom & Dad have passed but the Great life and memories we had, will live on forever! Thanks again for reminding me of such a wonderful time!

Ginos in West Chester, PA - located in the large parking lot of the ACME grocery store. Great for little league treats when I was young-young, and then hanging out with the high school crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. 196X - 1967, and then off to the US Navy to save the world from communisim.

One of those 2010 resurrection locations was in in King of Prussia, PA. I was excited to see them return, and the food, which I was still eating in those days, was good. But it only lasted two years or so. But my connection to Gino's,. aside from frequenting the place in the 70's, was that my father was an industrial package designer at the time and worked on Gino's and Rustler. For Rustler, he had drawn up several architectural renderings as possible designs. For Gino's, he designed an alternate line of paper products when Gino's was going to change what they had. His design used orange and red halftoned images of happy people printed around the cups and on the various bags (for fries, take-out, burger wrappers, etc.). A run of them was printed up for testing. They looked good, but what made it special was that the people he used were me, my mother and brother, his boss' family, and others in the office. So I have samples of printed Gino's paper items with me on them. Sadly, that line was not selected for general use, yet another of life's very sad missed opportunities.

The Tops Drive-In I went to with my parents was at North Quaker Lane and Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia, near the Bradlee Shopping Center. And I ALWAYS had the "Jumbo Gulf Shrimp" boat(plastic container). And MY Gino's was on Duke Street, Alexandria, near the intersection of South Pickett Street in 1968/69. Growing up north of Baltimore I went to Ameche’s as a child. Then to Ginos for years. The Giant is the best burger ever. I was lucky enough to go to the reopened Ginos before I moved. Really enjoyed this.

Lived in and around Baltimore from 1952 to 1966. My mom, a widow, would load us all in the station wagon and take us to Gino's and we all thought that was the best treat and I do remember the Giant. Great memory thanks for that.

Yes. The Gino Giant was the restaurant's premier meal item and taking it off the menu was a HUGE mistake. Many of my friends stopped going to Ginos because of this. And of course, they should have franchised.

Was the Hero "too much"? Or did they change things like the sauces they put on it. As far as I can tell, both have burger mean (the hero has a longer rectangular piece), lettuce, onions, pickles, etc... How were the two that different that it turned off so many people?

I remember Gino’s drive in hamburger restaurant in my hometown, Willow Grove, PA circa 1960. Burger Chef was their competition. During that time we also had delicious locally owned (not chain or franchise)pizza, cheese steak and sub shops for drive in spots. McDonalds, Burger King, A&W, White Castle and the pizza chains followed a few years later.

I loved Ginos, Rustler, and Roy Rogers! In 1976 at age 4, I had my first Gino burger. They did serve KFC and it was scrumptious. The two Ginos that I ate at in New Jersey was in Westampton on County Route 541 (became a used car lot), and in Lumberton on Route 38 (turned into a Roy Rogers , then Dunkin Donuts). Rustler was in Burlington on County Route 541 (torn down in the late 1980s). Roy Rogers was at the Moorestown Mall on Route 38. That was the first restaurant I remember eating at. That closed in the 1980s and I ate at the one in Lumberton (former Ginos) from the late 1980s to early 1990s. But Ginos was the best. Their fries were supreme I bought a premium frisbee there in 1980.

I remember how the bucket of chicken had rolls sitting in between the chicken and the lids so the were steamed when you opened it at home, they tasted like the chicken from the steam and were awesome. I liked those rolls so much better than the biscuits with my chicken. I also remember my cousin collecting all of the professional helmet replicas which you received when buying ice cream.

My first job was at Gino's in Glen Burnie MD on Ritchie Hwy. I worked in the chicken cooking area making the KFC. That was 1976-1977. I remember the "Hero burger" it was on a rectangular bun. This video brought back memories, thanks.

I grew up in South Jersey, and there was a Gino's just outside my town, in either Maple Shade or Mount Laurel (I'm not sure). I preferred their burgers to McDonald's, just as I preferred Roy Rogers roast beef to Arby's. Oh well. When I was a kid, I really didn't know KFC had standalone restaurants in most of the country, because I was used to KFC being associated with Gino's.

What I remember, was Gino Marchetti traveled with the Baltimore Colts, and when he was in California he noticed McDonalds with their 15 cent Hamburgers. So he based his first restaurants on the 15 cent Hamburger. I remember the theme song, "Everybody goes to Gino''s, cause Gino's is the place to go"". Still sing it from time to time. I have alot of wonderful memories os Gino's. Especially the one on Rte.13 in my hometown Levittown,Pa. There was also a Gino's Restaurant in the old Levitown Shopping Center which opened in the late 70s along with the Rustler Steak House. The Gino's in the old Levottown Shopping Center became a Roy Rogers restaurant in spring 1984 and the Rustler Steak House became Sizzler steak House at that same time. The Sizzler Steak House closed after it was gutted by a fire in Sept.1993 and hte Roy Rogers Restaurant closed in Jan.1994 and later became a seafood restaurant which closed in 2002. I really do miss Gino's so very much..

There was a Gino's back in the early seventies in downtown Feasterville, PA (lower Bucks County) next to the Inn Flight restaurant (remember THEM?) on Street Road. After it closed it became a franchised pizza place that eventually closed as well. Being originally from Baltimore, I remember the heydays of the Gino's restaurants down there. When a Gino's opened on Street Road in Bensalem some years ago, I remember excitedly stopping in. Didn't last long, though; it's now a cigarette store I think, or an Indian cuisine place. Anyway, Lower Bucks was paradise back in the sixties for those who were fortunate enough to live there.

I have many; fond memories of Gino's. I started working at the Towson location when I was 16 and a junior in high school, 1965. My starting wage was $1 an hour. I worked there through college (Towson State) and managed the store for almost two more years after. I worked for some great managers like Frank Lorenzo, Pete Frostead, Jerry Levy, Bill Dargakis, etc. My most vivid memory was when a new manager came into the back room and saw some grease that had splattered out of the pressure cooker for the KFC catch fire (happened all the time, not a big deal) and hit the button for the fire surppresion system. I took almost two days to clean up the resulting mess. I also remember the crowds that would hit after a Towson/Dulaney basketball game - madhouse. Also, we were under orders to give Artie Donovan whatever he asked for. He would come in on Friday nights and order two large cups filled with Gino's Giant Sauce, that he sued for chip dip over the weekend.

My second job was working at Gino's in Harrisburg pa from the mid 70s till the late 70s, . I totally loved it , we were always busy , I ran the front and we were allowed a free meal of choice per shift , so I tried everything throughout the years , never disappointed. We even had a salad bar around 1976 . Also unlike today , at the end of the night what ever was already cooked , we were allowed to take the food home instead of throwing it away , I was the oldest child in a poor family of 7 , it sure helped my parents out .

I grew up in Union City, NJ and my first official job , after getting my SS card, was at Gino's on 49th Street, Bergenline Ave. Lots of good memories with great co-workers, my best friend (Mildred) & management (Ernie). My favorite was the sirloin burger and I when they introduced the crispy apple pie. I asked to be moved to the back to cook instead of the counter & loved it. Many was the night that the "spoilage" container included broken apple pies, at least half of one. Simple times, good times.

Thank you for bringing back very fond memories of my time in the US Navy. My Gino's story goes back to 1976 in Horsham, Pa. On Route 611 was my favorite Gino's. While the Gino's Giant may have been the marquee burger, I chose the Heroburger with cheese, lettuce, ketchup, and mayo. There was just something special about the taste of that burger that set them apart from everyone else. I would sometimes go there and have breakfast at opening time...about 10:00am, go back at 3:00pm for lunch and back again at 8 or 9pm for dinner and have the same thing every time - a Heroburger with cheese, lettuce, ketchup, and mayo. It got to the point that when I pulled into the parking lot (driving a canary yellow VW Beetle) someone would start fixing my burger. One time, I got a Heroburger and there with no meat inside it. In 2017 while living in California, I took my wife to Toronto, Canada and the NHL Hall of Fame. That trip included visiting relatives in the Norfolk, Va area, a trip to the Smithsonian AND a deliberate trip to Glen Burnie to go where??? Gino's, of course. After devouring my GIno's Giant I went to the 19 year old cashier and said, "You've just made an old man very happy!" We now live in Tennessee and Gino's is only 10 1/2 hours away! Yay.

The Gino's in Horsham became a Roy Rogers, and is now home to Tonelli's Pizza. NAS JRB Willow Grove closed in 2011, thanks to BRAC. I worked there as a civilian 1998-2002 for Navy MWR.

There was a location on US Route 13 in northern Delaware a few miles south of the Del. Mem. Bridge and our family would stop there in late 1970's and early 1980's. We lived in western Mass but visited family in Dover, Del a couple times a year. I liked Gino's how partnered with KFC (our KFC has closed in Mass in the early 70's) but unfortunately your point about changing their menu was a factor that led to their demise. We had a Gino's in Hanover, Pa when I was a kid and we would go there often. Eventually, it converted to a Roy Rogers which was also pretty good as I remember. Oddly enough, the building is still there though now it's a converted Mexican resturant...

Worked at nearly 40 different ones. Started York PA in 1967, opened many around harrisburg, Camp Hill, Hanover, and Reading PA as well as NY avenue in DC, the one in the Bronx. Went to California around 1970 with them and worked a handfull out there, until they closed up then went to North Jersey and worked six or eight around there and finished up in Salisbury, MD for several years until until they closed up for good. Best company to work for!! Great fast food restaurant.

Gino's was our KFC. My dad latched on for us on the nights they went out. Cool in the beginning but after a while we were like Boo! For Chicken! It's funny I haven't been back to Aberdeen NJ in a bit but that strip of Rt. 34 had Friendly's, 7/11, Burger Chef, Weston's, Arthur Treachers' Grand Union & Acme. I'm sure the McDonalds, BK & DD are still there.

Many years ago, when I was in my 20s (70 now), I worked as the draftsman for the Philadelphia Sign Co. in Palmyra,NJ who manufactured all and installed many of the Gino and KFC bucket signs. It was my job the draw up the manufacturing plans and to make site drawings to obtain sign permits. And of course I also ate at Gino’s often.

There was a Gino's in Pennsauken NJ that my family would go to in the '70s. They shut down in the late '70s and my mom somehow got hold of the brown carpet they were planning to install in a planned renovation (yes, they had or were going to have carpet). It was some super heavy duty stuff, like berber but WAY tougher and more durable. My mom put that carpet in our kitchen and it was there from the late 70s until my parents moved in 2002 and it still looked exactly the same. I hope my parents donated that carpet to science, after 20+ years having everything under the sun spilled on it we probably created some new lifeforms in it.

I was born in 1957 and my early years (1960’s) we had a Gino’s in Aberdeen Maryland. I remember it well as it also had the giant Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket next to the Gino’s sign. I remember tasting my first Gino Giant with fries and a shake. It was heaven for a kid back then. Aberdeen was also the first place for McDonald’s in our area. I remember having the basic cheese burger, fries and a soda. Sometimes when I have a McDonalds burger now my senses catch a fleeting glimpse of the smell, taste and sense of atmosphere of that time. But sadly it disappears too quickly. Ahh.. such is life.

I loved the Gino's Giant and KFC there too, My sister worked at the Rustler Steak House in the Garden State Plaza in the mid-1970s and she used to get paychecks with the Gino's Logo on them, I also liked Roy Rogers (their Double R Burger and Roast beef sandwiches were great).

I remember Gino,s , there was one in Maryland off Greenbelt Road back in the seventies . It’s KFC now . Gino lived a long life especially for an NFL football player though Tom Brady might play that long 😂

Yep...one in Landover too on Rt 704 the old Geo. Palmer Highway. There was a Kinney Shoes and Robert Hall clothing right next to it in the 70s.😁

In the early 70's we had a Gino's right next to a McDonald's. This was before drive-thru, you had to walk inside to get your food. I'd walk into Gino's for the Giant - which was the best burger ever. Stuff it in my purse, walk next door and go into McDonald's for their fries. (Their fries were amazing at the time.) Then I'd find a seat in the corner so they didn't see me pull out a Gino's Giant in the McDonald's. LOL! I really miss those Gino Giant's!

I thought I was the only person that remembered Holly Farms. My mom would go for the livers. I think we used to go off South Dakota Ave in DC. The other sport was Red Barn Chicken. There was one in Oxon Hill, MD that we would go to. I live in Florida now but these bring back my childhood in DC, PG, and Montgomery Co. LOL!!

Was a young kid when Gino's was in Philadelphia. Remember the Gino's Giant and the Gino's Hero. Loved them both as well as the chicken. Really missed them and didn't get the opportunity to visit the new stores in King of Prussia in 2010. Now they are closed as well 😢.

In Montgomeryville, PA, outside of Philadelphia, there was a Starbucks location that used to be a Roy Rogers building. One of the employees told me that there was a Gino’s sign in the attic. Starbucks moved and I think the location is a Dunkin. The tell tale Roy’s roofline is gone. I have no idea what happened to the sign.

My mother loved the Gino Giant. She would take me food shopping on Friday evenings when my father had to work late and we would choose a place to eat along the Kirkwood Highway in Northern Delaware. We made the usual McDonald's, Burger King stops once in a while but Gino's at Price's Corner was our go to place. I used to order the biggest piece of Kentucky Fried Chicken (NOT KFC!) in the warming case then eat just the crispy skin and Mom got stuck eating the rest if she didn't feel like wrapping it up to take home. I can still see the inside of the place in my head. I think it was a Boston Market the last time I drove past. Didn't they did some special promotions for the Bicentennial? My memory is getting a bit fuzzy these days. Those Friday evenings in the early 70s stuck with me so much that I ending up writing a story about how I once tricked my Mom into going to Arby's because they had DC Superhero glasses for free with a soda. As usual she was able to figure out what I was up to but allowed me to think I had fooled her. God I miss her.

I remember a Gino's in our neighborhood on the corner of route 46 and St. Philips Dr. in Clifton, NJ. They raised the Melody Hill Diner to build it. It was a popular place. I enjoyed their Giant burgers. Then one day, Gino's was gone and a Roy Roger's Roast Beef took its place. Really a great sandwich with the horseradish sauce. Then Roy Roger's was gone and ultimately a Boston Market took up the location as of 20 years ago. Haven't been back since then but I remember the Gino's quite well. They had a good product.

I remember that Gino's well! I went to HS in Clifton (Paul VI), and we would run over there lunchtime, and whenever we had a period or two (sometimes more lol) free during the day. Before dances, after dances, all the time. The Giant was THE BEST! Fresh 100% of the time, not greasy and huge :-)

BIG time nostalgia for me here, from the 70's/80's, in Dundalk & Baltimore.... I'm glad they mentioned the KFC connection, because I only KNEW Colonel Sanders & his chicken, BECAUSE of Gino's when I was little. Glad they came BACK (limited, but still)!!!
