Record Breaker Carbon Fiber Evo: The Legendary HKS CT230R

Back in 2006, time attack records were a hot ticket among Japan’s tuning houses - proving their mettle at the seemingly simple, but unforgiving Tsukuba Circuit. To the point where they began building cars with one single goal - to beat the Tsukuba time attack record. So when HKS showed up to party, they didn’t f around. They build this: the carbon fiber clad CT230r Evo. After a few “evolutions” (lol), the car set a time of 55 seconds around the track - a record that would take years to beat. That’s impressive, especially considering that this thing has such limited aero compared to modern day time attack beasts.

@@jkk20 yeap TRB-01 Altezza lapped Tsukuba 55.8 seconds back in 2001. At that time TRB-01 was deemed too over the top by the organizers, for what was then considered to be a time attack car. The record was stripped shortly after that. 😒

This Evo is one of the GOATs and built like a GT car. Just by changing the tyres to A050s, it will be probably be close to 2 seconds a lap quicker (potentially putting it in the 51 second range).

The fact that this has so little aero compared to the new cars shows that you don't need all that horrendous likely non wind tunnel tested aero to go fast around Tsukuba. It makes zero sense, all that aero benefits maybe the last corner only, it being the only long sweeping highspeed corner. Why all these teams go all batshit crazy on the aero is beyond me, especially if they probably don't even understand it. Tsukuba is so short of a track and low avg speeds. Focus on mechanical grip and clearly you can still post sub 55 times. I stopped watching the time attacks cause the cars looked so ridiculous, didn't have any connection to what we can buy. This car looks like something we would drive, that's important. Last note, in the description you wrote it did 55, when you guys show a video of it doing 53, and the interview said 53.
