I purchased this particular Record Doctor machine and so far I’m very impressed. This was a good video in regards to demonstrating how to use it. I use a different method though… I’ll explain… Before I first used it, I noticed the spinning cap had no arrow or marking on it in which one can verify a complete revolution. So I added a small piece of blue painters tape at the 12 o’clock position to mark my starting point more clearly. I’ll take my record “dusting” brush to remove any larger particles up to and including pet hair as to not over-tax the machine and/or avoid any clogging that could effect performance. Compressed air from a can about 8 inches away works just as well. When I apply that liquid on the record, I spin it, using that brush for at least 3-4 complete revolutions to get into those grooves. Possibly 5-6 for VERY filthy records. (MoFi makes a great dual purpose wet/dry brush for safe “scrubbing” if needed, I recommend it) Sometimes it also helps to let the liquid “sit” for about 3 minutes before removal, if the debris, dirt, grime, whatever, is being kinda stubborn. This is especially useful on records bought from thrift stores. Always be prepared to replace the inner sleeve. Then I flip it over. During the liquid removal process, I spin the record a little bit slower than what’s demonstrated here, just to make sure I’m getting as much fluid out as possible with each completed revolution. I perform 3 complete revolutions, clockwise and counter-clockwise, which usually does the trick. 4-5 revolutions IF a heavier soiled record with a larger amount of cleaning fluid, was applied. And then I place the record in a new rice paper/anti static master sleeve from Invest In Vinyl. They’re virtually identical to MoFi’s inner sleeve design but much, much cheaper and with 86% of their reviews giving them a 5-star rating, I can’t go wrong. The Record Doctor will get very warm after using it on several records. The only caveat is that after about 20 records, it’s a good idea to unplug it, drain any collected fluid from the bottom, and let it cool down for 2-3 hours back to room temperature. It’s not as good as ultrasonic cleaning, but it’s a more affordable & very effective option if one cannot afford, for example,the well-regarded Degritter ultrasonic record cleaning machine, which is about as good as it gets in ultrasonic lp record cleaning, but very expensive at $3,000.00 compared to $299 for the Record Doctor VI. I almost bought the Pro-Ject version of this machine which was $749 on Amazon but from what I can tell, the only difference was that Pro-Ject’s model spins the record for you. It looks a little more shiny but neither of those could justify the price difference in my opinion. Thanks to this video, I made an informed decision.

Ah your method is very similar to mine. Except I made my own set up & my own version of the Vinyl Vac. There's a short video on my channel I made to demonstrate it for a coworker who also listens to a lot of vinyl....

Yes! Very much like what I do, as well, with great results. I find 2 cleanings to be great for old/dirty records, some need 3 cleanings, but each cleaning makes an improvement.

Great video! Thanks for posting. I do at least 3 rotations with the brush. I also start with one rotation with agitated brushing once the fluid has been spread. Same on vacuum - at least 3 rotations. Works great for me!
@chiangui24
@chiangui24 2 жыл бұрын
You really don't need to use that much cleaning fluid. Also I will do a very slow smooth rotation and I think that helps a ton. I think the best thing about this device is how quickly you can clean/dry the records compared to other higher end methods.

My dad had one of these back in the 80s, not sure if it's the predecessor to this one or a different company but it was essentially the same thing. It did a damn fine job I cleaned a big pile of 70s pressings with it.

@@megaziah i completely agree with you. I’m a faithful record doctor owner and have been for years. The need for an ultrasonic cleaner is a waste. I love the improved sound quality. I had records that were littered with dust dirt and the record doctor sucked the grooves clean! I make a homemade record cleaning solution. Shoot I should make a video. The solution is one part isopropyl alcohol, one part distilled water, and one part Ilford ilfotol

Besides a record cleaning machine you need a power cleaner, record cleaning fluid , distilled water, and record preservative. Also separate cleaning brushes for each liquid.

@Snobollskrieg

I think it's more of an issue of affordability. Sure, you can get cheap ultrasonic cleaners nowadays, but they are hardly worth the price. If you can shell out €1000-4000 for an ultrasonic rcm, be my guest, but not everyone can afford that. I think the Record Doctor VI, for what it costs, does a really good job.

I almost got one of those. Glad I didn't. I discovered the Vinyl Vac but instead of buying that, I made my own. So it's basically the same process but I do it a little different. 1st, I apply the fluid & brush in both directions at least 10 time each. 2nd, I vacuum. 3rd, I apply more fluid but this time I let it soak for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Also when I vacuum up the fluid I rotate the record slower. I have a short video on my channel I made to demonstrate my set up to a coworker who also listens to a lot of vinyl if anyone wants to check it out.

@moonytheloony6516

I think the idea is to remove the large particles first, manually, such as pet hair, etc, which is what I do. I use a carbon brush which worked perfectly. That immediately removes the chances of pet hair or larger particles from compromising the vacuum’s performance during the suction process in my experience.
