This lathe is now sold by several vendors in the USA. The spindle in the USA model is 1 1/4" and M33 for Europe. The Tailstock has been redone and now has a larger handwheel and is self ejecting.

Nice review Mike. It looks like this lathe could handle 95% of most turners needs. If your estimate of a price of $1000 is in the ball park it will be a great buy. Thanks for sharing.

Would love to upgrade to that lathe. I have a Record CL1 36 twin round bed lathe since 1999. Its got the swivel head and turn 15" x 36" between centres but it only a 3 speed and its a bit light for heavy off balance wood.

Thanks Mike. If you watch Craft by Afshin you can see this lathe in action. I believe he got it recently. It appears to be very well made. I would certainly consider it when it comes time to replace my old Delta midi. Space is a consideration for me and this looks to be just right.
@MikePeaceWoodturning5 жыл бұрын
It certainly has a smaller footprint then a full size lathe. It is a bit longer than most minis because of the motor is extended out instead of below the lathe.

It's been two years or so and this lathe is now available in the US. Price is $1300. Still not a bad price. Mike, how do you feel about the lathe now that you have been using it for a couple of years?
@MikePeaceWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
I think it provides a lot of capability for the price point being a 14" lathe with a swivel head. I was not happy with the non ejecting TS which required a knockout bar to remove the live center originally. They have corrected that in newer model.

Late to the game, but there are 2 really important features (to me at least) that you didn’t mention. Firstly, you can reverse the head and tail stock, effectively making it a Left Hand Lathe. Secondly, the fact that the headstock is easily removable makes it much easier to disassemble for lighter transport. Good vid Mike. Thanks!!!
@MikePeaceWoodturning3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Left handed lathe - umh. Wouldn't that be the same as turning on the other side? Still an issue operating the controls either way.

Good video Mike.... I have been wanting to ask you a lathe question for a while now and this video gives me a chance with out having ask a question unrelated to the video or Segway into it. Q 1. What different brands of lathes have you turned on? Q 2. What did you like or dislike about each lathe? Q 3. If you were buying a full size lathe today which one would you buy and why? And pros and cons? Q 4. How much of a difference 110 volts vs 120volts. I know most of the larger units are 220volt Looking to upgrade soon. Thanks Mike. Ron

Mike, have you had the time to review the SC2 chuck with the rounded jaws? I am sitting on the fence to buy the Beal collet system or the Record chuck and jaws. The Record cost a few dollars more but it would seam you get a lot more. Your thoughts....Thanks Again and Merry Christmas.

The problem I am having, is that if I put a worm screw in the chuck and then wind a bowl blank onto the worm screw, the handwheel unwinds and will come off, making it impossible to use a worm screw. Any ideas, it is a problem on an otherwise good lathe? Thanks James
@MikePeaceWoodturning4 жыл бұрын
There should be some way of fastening the handwheel on with some kind of locking nut or grub screw similar to fastening a chuck on the spindle for turning in reverse. Or use the spindle lock that all modern lathes have. I have never seen a lathe without a spindle lock but there may be some old model out there that does not have one.
@icespeckledhens4 жыл бұрын
@@MikePeaceWoodturning I didn't 't say but it's the Coronet Herald. There are not any locking grub screws, which surprised me. Recordpower say they are unnecessary because if you fit the bar, that comes with the lathe, through the handwheel and secure it behind the nut that allows the headstock to swivel, then the spindle is locked solid but the bar goes through the handwheel not the spindle and the handwheel and bar unwind together. I thought that as you have the Coronet Herald you may have come across the problem or maybe it's me. Thanks Mike

I want one. LOL I have a Jet 12/21 and I like it but this Record Power lathe is in a class by itself. Of course, there is the small Robust lathe that is to die for. So do you have an idea what the US price will be? I am thinking $2000 plus. Am I right?
@MikePeaceWoodturning5 жыл бұрын
It sells for about 1000 GBP so I am guessing about $1000 base price plus the legs.
