Excellent video to show how the SC4 would be used for us looking into wood turning. The videos on the Record Power web site seem to assume the viewer knows the basics which I suppose is understandable!

🤔 I know exactly what you mean. I'm by no means an expert on anything related to wood turning. The way I approach it is to think of what I want to achieve and then figure out a solution. Having good quality tools will always help you achieve your goal because your not struggling with getting the tool to do what it should do (that doesn't mean you need to buy the most expensive tools.... just good tools). As with everything, perfect the basics then gradually you can stretch yourself and get some great results. But above all... stay safe 😁. Thanks for watching John 😁👍

Great explainer - thank you. In my adapter package I got another hex screw and mini leather pad. Should that go in to secure it to the lathe? (It's a Record SC2).

😁 Hi Chris. I'm not too sure about the SC2, but with my one i use the grub screw and pad to secure the adaptor. But I don't actually use one to secure it to the lathe itself. The reason I don't is because I swap my chuck quite regularly to a smaller one so that wouldn't really work for me. Its never been an issue for me. So its really what you are comfortable with 😁. 😁 Don't fight it Steve... it will win in the end 🤣😂. It can get quite addictive but it is a great addition to any workshop. My main advice would be to avoid some of the cheaper lathes, you will be dissapointed quite quickly. If you can, try and go for one with a cast iron bed. And don't fall in to the "biggest is best" trap. There are lots of benefits to getting a shorter lathe. Thanks for watching Steve 😁👍

@@frankslittleworkshop Thank you for the advice. Possibly part of the reason I don’t have a lathe yet is because there are so many out there, it’s hard to know where to start when buying one. So I’ll take your advice and will start to look around and see what fits with the criteria you’ve suggested. It’s really good to know that there are benefits to a shorter lathe, especially as my workshop is a similar size to yours. Thanks again Steve.

@@stevejeffery4951 your welcome Steve 😁. Please remember that "im not a turner"... I just do some turning... a big difference. Look for:- Cast bed... for stability. Decent power (300W or more to start). 4 jaw scroll chuck (avoid independent jaw types to start). Good speed control (some belt setups can be a bit of a faff). Carbide tools to start with (and a decent gouge). You don't need all the bells and whistles to get started. But most important.... stay safe . Thanks Steve 😁👍.

@@frankslittleworkshop yes I know what you’re saying about not being a turner. Probably in the same way that I can lay bricks, but I’m not a bricklayer. Some really good pointers there and I will take my time and shop around for all the right equipment. Yep, safety first, always👍🏼 no trying to run before I can walk 😉

Looks a nice upgrade i have never done any wood turning but still enjoyed the video, if you don't mind me asking how wide is your table saw and what are your thoughts on the sip table saw i am currently looking at upgrading my dewalt 745 to an induction motor saw either 250 or 305 blade.👍

😁 Thanks mate 👍. The tablesaw cast iron bed is 46" wide and I think 32" deep. That is made up of the main table and a cast iron extension wing on either side. It is a 10" blade and I absolutely love it. Check out some of my previous videos where I show it in more detail. Thanks for watching Rasmo 😁👍

Setting up a decent lathe sounds like quite an expensive hobby. I'd love one but as always, the workshop's too bloody small.

😁 it can be expensive, that's why it took me about 4 years for me to find a decent lathe at a good price (it was third hand). My old lathe was a lightweight one which I could stand on its end in the corner when it wasn't being used. It was OK, but I wanted a grown up one. So it can be done on a budget in a small space if you really want to. Thanks for watching Ian, hope your keeping well 😁👍
