@@AndysCornishCreations Okay, here's how it went... The lathe was £100 second hand (Tyme Cub plus loads of old chisels and stuff) Then came along. Three new chisels £67.00 The new chuck £130.00 A new grinder £30.00. Recip saw £30. And all I've turned is half a dozen small rolling pins and about a dozen honey dippers. Oh' and a pretend candle stick practice spindle. However, Now that I'm sort of kitted out all I need is time...

Thanks Andy, a useful review. I have 35mm jaws on a patriot which is quite useful for small work but the chuck body is big and gives you limited access chuck side. This might prove a useful acquisition but sssh, don't tell the Mrs!

Nice review Andy! I like the idea of having a small chuck like that. I do have a set of 35mm jaws for my Nova chucks. Really nice for a small mortice which I have used many times. But I would like a small chuck body like you have there. Thanks for this video! Cheers, Gary
@AndysCornishCreations3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary... I would have liked the 35mm jaws on this chuck instead of the 40mm ... but I also like the look of the domed jaws.. they look really useful... ohhhh.. so many nice shiny things to buy ... I’ve just received one of these and in my excitement of turning a Christmas ornament (I am a beginner) I loaded my prepared piece onto Chuck with tailstock supporting it. After a while the whole piece flung off … so I glued it again. I then started on my second prepared piece and just a minute into turning that flew off the Chuck. My piece was an inside out ornament. I’m using gorilla glue and the piece was square … what am doing wrong? 😊🤦♀️
@AndysCornishCreations13 күн бұрын
@@hayleywood93 Hi Hayley... It's difficult to advise you without seeing what you have done... If you could send me pictures of the piece mounted in the chuck and wit the tailstock support.. I might be able to see if there is anything wrong with your method... My email address is andyscornishcreations@gmail.com I haven't tried an inside out Christmas ornament yet but I have seen them made.. Usually 4 pieces fastened together with double sided tape or tape wrapped around the outside for the 1st stage of turning.. Then inverted and glued together for the second stage... I'm assuming that you are using Gorilla wood glue.. its good stuff.. I like using it... make sure that you leave it overnight to cure fully... Also be careful when using tailstock support because you can drive the pieces apart with the point of the live centre in the tailstock... To stop this you can glue a piece of wood onto the tailstock end of your piece... Make sure you use light cuts as a catch cat RIP the piece out of the chuck... Despite teething problems I hope that you are enjoying your new hobby... I love it... I hope that this is of some help.. do not hesitate to ask for any help that I can give... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy

@@AndysCornishCreationsHi Andy, many thanks for your speedy response. I think you’re right that the tail stock forced it apart, plus I had in the Chuck a square piece of wood in a round hole. 🤦♀️ It really didn’t have a chance!!! I will try what you have suggested and take photos… however I think it’s probably best that I start with an easy piece first 😃. Love your work and thanks for the offer of more advice … I think I’m going to need it ❤️

Fir my first new lathe,1015vs jet..I need my first chuck..Seriously thinking of this..For small stuff and pens...Would you recommend the sc2 over the sc1?..Thank you
@AndysCornishCreations Жыл бұрын
Hi Glass house... I would recommend the Sc2... it's only a little bit bigger but it will accommodate a decent sized bowl if you move onto turning bowls... I can't see an advantage to having a slightly smaller chuck... The Sc2 comes with the standard C jaws... and I would recommend getting the Dome jaws for holding small items... if you make a lot of pens then the pen jaws could be a bonus... Value for money wise.. I don't think that you could beat it... Just my opinion but I hope that this helps... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy

Hey there Andy! Am I the only one who worries about the whereabouts of that little leather washer? Sorry 😂 I am terrible with such things… In my hands, this little leather washer would be lost for humanity… Not only am I short-sighted but I also seem to have a short memory for safe hide-away places… Both handicaps, I might add, do NOT seem to be age-related… Honestly, this should be forbidden… How on God’s earthly planet is one supposed to find such a tiny piece ever again… Good bye, little leather washer, good luck and God bless! I wish you a long and happy life! Anyway… The piece of advice with the loose tightening of the screws in a first step is greatly appreciated for any future screwing… I shall take it to heart 🙏🏻 I am gradually becoming a real expert on lathe set-up… In my next life, I want to be a wood turner, too 😉 Thank you and thumbs up, Andy 👍🏻 Take care and bye for now 👋🏻

Hi Jude... don't worry yourself about the little leather washer... its safely put away in a plastic bag in the chuck case... I think... Haha What I should have done was to super glue it to the end of the grub screw... You are becoming very knowledgeable in the ways of woodturning... I hope that you and your family farm are staying safe with all the crazy weather over there... Take care...All the best.....Andy
@morningsong78853 жыл бұрын
@@AndysCornishCreations You‘re my hero, Andy 👍🏻😂 You can still super glue it to the screw and at the same time check if it is still where you think it is, ha ha… The super glue thing is a terrific idea 💡 I‘m gonna use it, if you don‘t mind 🤓 As for the weather… well, rain, rain, and more rain… The meadow behind the house looks like a rice field, no kidding… but so far no water in the cellar, and no hail and no violent storms, so I think we have been quite lucky overall so far… The Linth canal is overfull, maybe 50 cm left to the top 🤪😬 but as from tomorrow, the rain should stop and the peak should be reached in a day or two, because there is still coming down quite a bit of water from the mountains… but overall I think we should be fine… How about Cornwall? Have you also had heavy rains? I hope not… Well, have a lovely weekend and hopefully some ☀️, too 🙏🏻 Stay safe, Andy, cheers 👋🏻 Jude
