Five years later and this video is still a great start for getting this working, thanks! But I actually just figured out that you can do basically the same thing all within one group now. (I don't know if this was possible in 2019 or not ) Say I'm in group F. The group input and output are just default (out to master). On sound slot 16 I've loaded my VST: Fortin Nameless Suite X (an amp sim). That sound #16 Input Audio is "In 1 R" from my audio interface, and Output Audio is "Group." At this point I can already play the guitar and hear the processed audio live. Then on sound slot #1, go to Output parameters, set Audio to F1:S16 which refers to that slot where the VST is loaded. Switch to the Record page (the little waveform icon) and set the Input Source to "Ext. Mono" and "In 1 R" again. Start recording and play the guitar, and end up with the *clean* audio recorded. Maschine automatically gives the slot the internal Sampler plugin. And now when you trigger that Sound either in software or on the hardware pad, you hear the processed audio. I'm super new to Maschine myself but can already see the possibilities in having a group full of cool riffs to then record a pattern with.... fun stuff PS I also just accidentally figured out how to record *processed* audio into the sound slot instead of clean, by changing the Input Source on the Record page to Internal - slot F16 (again, that's where the VST is loaded) instead of Ext.Mono. I guess in this case you'd want the sound's output to just go to group instead of F16 otherwise it would be processing it through the VST twice. Maybe this is all obvious stuff to a Maschine expert but I ended up watching this video cuz I had no idea what I was doing and now I feel like I'm on the right track. Thanks!

Sidechaining we're ducking the purpose of that is to allow two different sounds or instruments to play together without one sound overpowering the other sound. in this case it's not my bass that is drowning out the drums. it's the guitar sound when I record and then play it you can't really hear other instrument sound uhm well like melody or bass sounds. drums come in fine along guitar but other instruments are ano go. so should I go to like the EQ plugin of the guitar and cut out some of the frequency from the top and the bottom to allow other instruments to be able to be heard? What can I do is it because of the signal, from not using a do box?
@gibson26232 жыл бұрын
Aren t those inputs line level? The guitar is not.....the signal from guitar must be very low, since it s not hiZ the preamp.....Right? ....I supose for this scenario a DI box would be needed for better results. In maschine + we can use a soundcard with good preamps, as the maschine can host it via usb. I got an mk3 recently and I could not see myself recording a guitar in it since I have all this kind of audio interfaces with good preamps. Anyway, was a very nice video, and learnt new things. Thank you.

Great tutorial, thank you - I'm wondering about editing the guitar audio / synth audio once it is recorded. I'm newer to Machine but it looks like there has been some added capabilities with editing audio (edit, split, normalize, fade in, fade out, etc.) I haven't been able to find any tutorials that demonstrate how to use the maximum editing capabilities in Machine. Reaper is always my go-to for DAW and fully editing as it is my first love, however I'm seeing some very cool advantages to work flow with machine and added ability to (easily and intuitively) edit sound waves as I can in Reaper would mean that I wouldn't need to go outside of Machine for very much. Seems its on its way to being a competitive and unique powerful DAW in its own right...

Another awesome video Jef, exactly what I was struggling with! Maybe it's because I'm coming from a more traditional DAW workflow, but it feels like Maschine does make us jump through quite a few hoops to integrate live sounds into your compositions. Just to be clear: when you're recording an external instrument without any effects, do you just use a single group and turn monitoring on in the sample editor? Or are there any other benefits to working with two groups?
@jefgibbons5 жыл бұрын
+Wouter Appeltans thanks! Yeah, as you said, if no fx are needed, just one group with monitor on, then add fx to that same group later if needed.

Hey Jeff! Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴. Huge fan and I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank you for sharing all of this great content. Something really annoying that happens to me when using the loop function with Maschine MK3 is that every time I record the loop and it loops for the first time, there is a weird lag that makes it sound terrible (even if the performance was perfect and everything is where it should be). I realized this doesn't happen to you on your video, and I am wondering if you know what the cause can be. I am using Maschine MK3 inside pro tools, so maybe that has something to do with it. What I'd like to do is to record the loop, and for Maschine to loop it perfectly after the rec is off. However, the first time it loops right after rec is off is terrible. This is really a shame because I'd like to use it for live performances where I am making the loops live. Finally, it's not that the timing is wrong because if I stop playback and play it from the start, the loops are fine. It only happens on the first turn of the loop right after the rec bars are over (which in my case is after 4 bars). Hope it makes sense!

Hi Jeff, I really like your tutorials, I appreciate it very much the way you explain. I would like to ask you something about fx in maschine. I will work with maschine mikro mk3 (I will receive it in a couple of days). Maschine mikro doesnt have any knobs. If I have other midi controller, can I control the fx parameters with it in order to play live performances using the effects in real time? Thanks for your attention and your tutorials. Greetings from Spain!

Hey Jeff! I had a related, but slightly different question and wondered if you had any insight: If I had two different audio channels, and wanted to have them both set up to loop, is there some way to keep each channel set to different External mono input sources in the sampler? Or perhaps make the sampler input follow the Sound Input source? I've been digging through the manual and scouring the web for hours now.

Have you ever used a foot pedal to start/stop record in while looping in sampling mode? For some reason when I use a foot pedal it waits until the next bar to stop the loop recording where as when I use stop at the top of the right screen it stops recording the loop instantly. Such a pain in the ass and can't find anything about this.
