Matt I recently had the chance to record a jazz demo on bass clarinet with this gorgeous device. Thank you, it’s such a pleasure to mix! I’ve always used harmonic enhancers to get more from the horn, today I’m only using that plugin for the other instruments that didn’t have the benefit of this mic.

Man I love your editing! Even tho it's like... I dunno, I don't wanna say "nothing special" but it is not like super fancy for like a professional Video Editor or something (which I am not at all!!!) BUT it is... Applied with a lot of love?! I am not a native Speaker so I don't really know how to put it in English but you can tell that in all your videos you apply the editing with a lot of thought and love, like another instrument, so to speak. And just like with music, I don't care about what style of music it is as long as you can feel that who is playing it is doing so with passion, that's the kind of vibe I'm getting from your videos. @@RecordingStudioLoser Ah, really? Well, I guess It would be easy to assume from the product names that the R's would be closest relatives. On the AEA's product overview page both are mentioned, and R84 erroneously i believe when they are should be comparing R88A (active) and R88. On the spec page they tell that the N8 is the mono version..

@@RecordingStudioLoser Smart move, I did that as well, but after an email back and forth with AEA [after I bought the preamp], they recommended not using the cloudlifter with the R88 if I had the AEA TRP2 preamp. The TRP2 was expensive, but I'm glad I did it, very clean with enough headroom beyond.

This sounds amazing guys! Wish I could say the same for me. I bought the R88 mic and the RPQ2 preamp with high hopes of recording my piano but only to be dashed as it turned out so noisy. You can only use it in a professional studio it seems and not at home.
@RecordingStudioLoser6 ай бұрын
I would contact AEA. Noisey isnt something I’ve ever encountered with their stuff. I know lots of guys using these in home studios. Is your power clean? If it’s not your power something may be wrong with the mic or pre. They’ll help you out
@lotusjace6 ай бұрын
@@RecordingStudioLoser Wow thanks for replying! I did contact AEA, they told me to take it to my dealer to check which I did and my dealer said there were no issues with the mic or pre's plus AEA even told me to get another mic and that the R88 wasn't suitable to home recordings.....so go figure...I mean on their official youtube page they have so many recordings with the R88 with some in a home environment! So It might be a power issue although I did try recording the piano in another space and it always had the same noise problem. Do you think that by using a power conditioner it might improve the noise? Are there any hacks/reccomendations around this?? Someone suggested I use some packing blankets to help deal with the elevated noise so I might try it. In the meantime I'm taking it to a super duper studio to test it out.
@RecordingStudioLoser6 ай бұрын
I can’t imagine anyone at AEA saying anything like that. Most of the problem working there have home studios. Their largest market is home studios. Take it to your dealer? Where was it purchased? Normally they get sent back in even if there is an incline that something is wrong. Please let us know who you talked to at AEA. Give me a name. I’ll reach out.
@RecordingStudioLoser6 ай бұрын
You don’t need a super studio to use this. I’ve taken the thing to cabins in the woods, RVs, parking garages out of the back of my van. Unless you have audible noise in the room or are sharing the circuit with something gnarly you shouldn’t have a problem.
@lotusjace6 ай бұрын
@@RecordingStudioLoser I just got a new interface to see if it makes a difference. I got an emf meter and doesn't look like I have huge power issues. I will turn off the led lighting next to the piano and unplug the electrical devices before recording. Hoping it'll work out.

The snare sounds sooooo modern. I can't wait for this trend to wear out so we can tune higher again. Also I would prefer electric guitar over acoustic for that staccato rhythm. Also a "modern" production choice. Am I just "old school" or does that really sound better? Good song, though, could compete with the rest on the charts no sweat.
@RecordingStudioLoser4 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting. That modern snare sound is mostly used in pop from samples built from old school 70s sounds. I happen to be using one of those vintage 70s snares. I think modern I think higher tuned. But hey genres are all different. Either way. Do you. Tune high.
@DrUmSensitive4 жыл бұрын
@@RecordingStudioLoser I tune đuvh higher, yes. It is not just the snare, but if you loosen the head that much that it doesn't resonate at all and then compress it, it will sound modern. At least that's what I am hearing. "Modern" IS vintage, everyone is using Supraphonics from the 70's, I know I do.
