Just found that clip under my sofa. Hope you don't mind if I keep it as a souvenir.

This is the most helpful tutorial for replacing a belt that I’ve seen! Especially the tip on how to get the clip back on. Thank you so much!

I am not snobby toward these players, I am very grateful to mine for introducing me to vinyl, but I wonder how many of these 'live' long enough to need a new belt.
@saintmichael17793 жыл бұрын
When you notice that the record is a little slow in revolving, that's when it's time to replace the belt. I had a record player and it was like seven or eight years until I had to get a new belt.
@jeremy_h3 жыл бұрын
@@saintmichael1779 Exactly. I can't imagine one of these being a daily driver for 7 years. The belt is probably the most durable part on it. Still good info, though!

The bottom of the platter has pegs sticking out to put the belt on before you install it back on the spindle just put the belt on the peg and put the spot where the belt is on the peg at the motor spindle install the platter on the center spindle then turn platter by hand a couple of revolutions and presto you are done.
@charlesc9203 жыл бұрын
You can see the little peg under your left thumb at 6:30

I tried that but the belt wouldn't come off the leg when I turned it. I think you need to have the belt close to the edge/lip of the platter so it will pop off the short peg easier. Or you can loop some string through the belt to pull it away and then just slide out the string.

I have a couple Magnavox consoles that the belts have gotten brittle on just because they're 50 years old so this is quite helpful. Thanks so much. Check your coffee cup before you drink! The clip might have gravitated there!

Thank you for your time for showing the majority of turntable owners (Crosley, etc.) how to perform this. It’s uncanny how much of a pain in the butt this usually simple service is, compared to even slightly higher-end Audio Technicas.

Recordology, there is a Glenn Miller museum and festival in Clarinda Iowa. Glenn was born in Clarinda.

Always wanted to go to that. Lots of GM history here in Colorado as well. He left Clarinda at age 3.

:D - Using some Sellotape (place it over the clip and tear it with the screwdriver) or Blu-Tak (use in the same way) can help you to not lose the clip; or (if you have one) a magnet [possibly your screwdriver might be magnetic, so it might hold the clip]. You can also use scissors to release the clip. Using pliers in conjunction with these would allow you to replace the clip afterwards. As a further alternative putting a paper clip above the clip can hold the clip in place for easier removal, this can also be used (below the clip) when replacing the it, as it will elevate the clip to the right height possibly (or maybe use an elastic band!). Just some other things to consider. All work as I've used these in the past. (Sorry the comment is a bit long).

Is there a way to control the pitch on these? The speed is about 2% too slow, even with a new belt. There is likely a small potentiometer somewhere on the board that can be adjusted for this; I just need to be told the component number on the board, or the location of the pot.

Also here’s a couple other tips for anyone who is still having issues: when you get the belt on and you put the platter back on… spin it around a few times counterclockwise. And then spin it once clockwise. If it spins freely and doesn’t stop after one spin, that means the belt isn’t on right. Also if you get everything set up right and the record still sounds funny, let it play for a few minutes and it should start sounding right again.

LIKE number 6 and learning new tricks. Regarding those spindle clips, maybe it's a good idea to hold a bag or a clear sandwich bag (Ziploc bag) over the area to catch the clip flying off. :)

I'm betting the clip is on the counter top, or the floor. That countertop has a great camouflage pattern. If the clip is metal, use a magnet on a string and drag it around on the floor. The platters with holes in them would be the easiest way to change belts, as seen on your other players.

Would a belt replacement be a cause for the record playing in a deeper tone? Like slow and distorted? I've had a Victrola box style like this for less than 2 years and I changed the red tip stylus to see if that would help. It didn't. There's no way that I know to adjust the weight of the needle. I did a static test. And this is the last thing I was going to try but didn't want to take it apart if you may know what plays records slower/deeper? It's at 33rpm and it played just fine until I moved. I took great care of it before and during the process. Any ideas anyone???

The easiest way to keep the circlip from whizzing off to the land of lost socks is to set your pry tool on it then cup your hand over it. It will then fly into your hand. Second, the platter on the suitcase record player has a pin to stretch the belt around to make replacement easier. Once you install the belt on the sub platter you put the taught area over the motor spindle and seat the platter. Give it a few spins and the belt will seat with an audible snap. To install the circlip get it on the groove at the base of the platter spindle, grab a small pair of needle nose pliers and squeeze it back on. It will also snap into place. VWestlife has a detailed video on this.

Can't one test if the belt is on correctly before putting the clip back on by simply turning the record player on and seeing if the platter turns? That little clip is probably the most difficult piece to handle in the whole exercise.

You can buy those clips at Home Depot. I always have extra on hand.

1. Magnetize your screwdriver. 2. Put your clip on a magnet after you take it off so it doesn't get lost.

Better turntables have openings in the platter under the mat where you can use tweezers or a pick to remove and replace the belt on the motor shaft. If your belt has stretched out you can buy a little extra time by shrinking it. Put it in boiling water for 45 seconds to one minute. (don't overdo it) It's not a cure-all but it will keep the unit in service until you can get a replacement belt.

Put a finger on the clip before you release it. So it doesn't fly away. Use the plastic stud on the bottom of the platter to hold the belt away from the center. Orient the platter in place with that stud on top of the motor spindle. Then spin the platter like your scratching a record. The belt will fall off the plastic stud and onto the motor spindle. There's no need to put your fingers in there

It is much easier to attach the belt to one of the pins at the edge of the turntable and place the strap plate on top of the motor. turn the turntable twice manually and the belt reaches the right place. like this guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/UM3toBWPNEmCHoRs.large
