Just a testimony for this method. I tried some thing like this. It works. 3 year old battery, Walmart Maxx- brand, had not been driven for a while and had left the interior lights on. On top of that we had a 5 day long deep freeze (Dallas). After that, voltage reading was zero. I tried to jump it. Had to leave it connected to the running second car for almost an hour and then was able to jump start it. Was not able to restart it though. Voltage reading 2.5V. Charged it traditional method, reading only around 11, even that did not hold. So, I did some thing like in this video. 200a charger was really expensive but I bought one which had 30A charge but a 100A engine start setting, a smart charger. With the 4A and 30A setting, it would go off soon after turning on. I guess the smart thing did not want to charge it. So, I used the 100A engine start setting (current stays on constantly and charging voltage at this setting was 15.4V). Did several cycles of 10 minute on/ off, then several of 45 minutes on/off. I even did one cycle of 2 hours on. The battery never got too hot (only warm to touch). The electrolyte never boiled or overflowed (only very small bubbles). After this, battery was 12.7V. Closed the vents and put it back in vehicle. Perfect start. No problem yet (several days).

How do you set the charger to stay on 200Amp boost mode continuously? The manual says it stay on 3 mins and kicks off 180 seconds. Do I need one that is fully manual that can deliver 200amp nonstop until I turn it off? I am looking to buy one but I can't seem to get one that can stay on all the time. I have a Napa and motomater dealers selling ones that only stay on boost for 5 seconds only when ignition is turned over, if no ignition it does nothing or if the battery voltage is too low it will not even go into charging mode.

I got it at the end. I saw this method on another site and they recommended the associated charger @ $300 dollars. I don’t plan on doing this too often and wanted to look into the Schumacher for $150-$200. But wanted to be assured I could set it to the 200 amp for 15 minutes without having it auto adjust the time or the amperage. Good vid thanks.

@@eby6114 They're supposed to boil, that's what dissolves the crystals that form inside the battery. You haven't heard of the 200 amp or higher jump start mode method where you charge it for 15 minutes on the 200 amp jump start mode and then let it rest for an hour? You do this at least 5 times (some people have had to do it more times) and all cells should be boiling at that point, then after you that is finished you hook it up to a trickle charger for 3 days.

@@smoky5833 Smoky....I'm looking at getting the Schumacher 200amp to recondition some car and boat batteries, so does yours cut off automatically? I need it to stay on and boil the battery that's how this process works? If it shuts down after certain amount of time or voltage like a safety feature so it doesn't boil that's not what I want, don't want to waste my money. Did your Schumacher 200 shut down or stay on so you can boil it?

You said the setting was 200A but what voltage was measured at battery terminals and did you actually test the current being drawn ? . I anticipate it was not charging at 200A and if it is starter setting you most likely have about 15V @ about 4-5 AMPS ? You don't need a special voltage starter for this just a supply that can give you 100W @15v
@eby6114
@eby6114 2 жыл бұрын
For a real test you'd need a clamp to measure amp draw. Your not giving a starter 200 amps. Your giving a dead battery as much as it will take in it's state of charge plus your starter. Check your wires going to your starter. They are thick. Ever heat up a set of cables trying to jump start someone? 100 watts? ha that a lightbulb not a starter with a bad battery. These boosters also cycle on and off otherwise the water would boil off

My question here is how do you get 200 amps for 15 min. Without boiling your water out. I've tried that with water at proper level and my water begins to boil out aggressively within 5min. or less. I'm having much better success at 50 amps.

Anybody have any answers about cleaning the inside gunk of these car batteries that accumulate over the years? I see people using baking soda and water and emptying out the battery allowing air to come in contact with the plates which I believe is a negative I read in an article along with baking soda was a negative in the article shouldn't be using baking soda on the plates but seems to be working and using regular water negatives that I read an articles that shouldn't be happening on these batteries and it seems to be working for some people and not for others. It leaves me to wonder why even ask the question does anybody have a safe way to clean the inside of the battery and eliminate the gunk?

I don't know of one. They all will produce but will drop voltage if power isn't needed It's a safety feature, hydrogen gassing, and what not. They try to keep it safe. Plus overheating the cells

Trickel charge only works if your battery is not sulfated. If it is sulfated you can trickle charge for months and it will never hold a charge. You have to desulfate.

Just to touch on this, it's more about cleaning build up on the cells and refreshing the electrolytes that carry the currents. When you do that your amperage comes back.

@@eby6114 chargers that I have seen wont even send voltage to a battery unless there was some voltage there. So, they wont revive a 0 volt dead battery. And then others that will send a charge, only do it if theres a draw, like when someone turns the key. So how do you force all these charges to just send 200 amps, no questions asked
