Recovering from a bad PC BIOS update.

Have a motherboard where the BIOS update went wrong? If it's on a motherboard with a socketed EEPROM, it can likely be easily recovered if the motherboard vendor provides a proper binary image of the update in the updates themselves. Some manufacturers like Lenovo however do not do this and this video won't apply. Sometimes you can however find hidden binary images in executable's by using 7-Zip to explore the contents of them.

Great video. My board crashed during a bios flashback and I wasn't able to boot it. I RMA'ed of course and they returned it to me with just saying BIOS written. And they didn't screw tightly my Wi-Fi antenna ports so I guess my EEPROM is under there and they removed the left IO panel or heatsink to access it. Would've done it myself if I've seen this video and wait 2 weeks for my mobo. EEPROM programmers are cheap so 2 weeks without mobo against 5 dollar is definetely worth it for me. I will try this next time if I screw up with bios :D. Thanks

If you got the stuck screen on bios plug your charger and it will resume the update.

if you find another motherboard which works with the same chip, you can remove it while it's working and plug your corrupt chip while the motherboard working and program it. I did this years ago and recovered dozena of Chernobyl damaged mainboards with unknown manufacturers like Tomato :) brand motherboards ...

@@gullraiznadeem2548 what he says is easy.. to allow the computer to boot, once it has booted you physically replace the good chip with your bad chips, program them, turn off computer, place back the original bios.. and that is.. seems pausible to me, perhaps wont work in modern hardware though....

Or if your BIOS is socketed, you can also write an email asking for 1 chip to your brand... I once did and i didnt get just 1 but 2 rom chips, for free, in 5 days they were in my house and it was international mail... Some brands are this cool, this was with Asrock...

Mobo: ECS H61H2-M Ver1.0 . I've updated the BIOS directly to ver. 12/23/2013 without Checking the ME version or updating the ME via Cpu EVO2. Being a laptop, it's probably dead, sorry (this video is simply not aimed at laptops). Laptops don't have removable EEPROM's because they are subject to shock constantly day to day, and an EEPROM socket would never hold it in place. Contact the manufacturer for further assistance. I can't help you. This would require an in person tech consulting job who's good at soldering.

Probably the problem is your motherboard.after a failed bios update the bios chip on the motherboard is unusable. Send your motherboard to its service center for the issue they will change the bios chip. It will be good as new.

A technician have did that to my pc today. Cause It's bios was interrupted and wasnt showing anything on screen, but it was sounds normal, fans and leds were working at least. But after technician unplugged the Bios chip and sets the bios again and putted in my pc again. Now the pc is died. No sighn of life. Not any sound or fan running, not even a led is showing up. Laptops would require a lot more work and require an experienced seasoned technician with a clip lead EEPROM programmer to do it without desoldering.

Tablets are very different to this and don't have removable EEPROM's. You'll need to consult the manufacturer, or a forum specializing in that device.

​@@hakemon well lazy no, not gifgted wity my hands lol programming doesn't require soldering etc I learnt locomotive basic 1.0 with my amstrad cpc 464 then much later x86 assembly in real mode, maybe you don't even know what it means... well if i tell you that cmps is a very bad name for an instruction as it doesn't compare strings but bytes which can be strings but other things as well or if i talk about the int 21 which allowed to go back to dos when ah = 4c and al = the return code etc etc will you believe me? so yes i am not at ease with electronics, soldering etc it's different from using a computer

I’ve just recently tried updating my bios. I installed the most recent version to a usb stick, and ran the update off of it just fine, when the pc booted up after the update, it hit with the the ‘Please enter setup to recover bios setting. Press f1 to run setup’ page. I pressed f1, saved and exited the bios and rebooted. Now my main 144hz monitor doesn’t work. I tried updating the gpu drivers, check for loose/ damaged cables but everything is fine. Everything is displayed fine on my 60hz monitor, but I get a ‘no signal’ from the 144hz after what seems like it trying to turn on. It’s currently just sat in the ‘sleep mode’.

That's likely unrelated to the BIOS update if your GPU is on a PCI card and not onboard. While not the subject of this video, try these. But beyond this I only have 75Hz monitors. 1. Try reseating your video cable. 2. Try uninstalling the drivers completely and reinstalling them from scratch. I had to do this just last night because GeForce experience's overlay quit working and updating the drivers wasn't working. 3. It could be the monitor, try unplugging power to the monitor itself and plug it back in. It may simply be providing the wrong EDID information.

So, with my situation.. I updated the bios and it installed. I can still boot my computer, get into bios but, it appears the only way I can get into windows is by unplugging my peripherals. You’re saying my motherboard is cooked? Did I actually screw up? 🥺

I'm not saying anything. I can't answer that, but did you try to reset CMOS settings first? It's entirely possible the CMOS layout changed and now it's causing a conflict.
