Videos like these are so important to holding hope of making it through this for me and returning to my usual health. I watch the same videos/listen to the same podcasts over and over, with each crash/setback, trying to steal a little of your resilience and grit to keep my chin up and hold hope that my body will work this out. It’s like the body is an old telephone exchange and Covid pulled all the cables out, and the body doesn’t know what order they go back in, but it keeps trying and getting it wrong, then getting a few back in correctly (& your hope rises, you start feeling better) before getting one wrong and they all come out again. Then you’re back to the start once more, but your body doesn’t remember the order it got right and so on it starts from scratch, and so it goes with no known end! It’s a cruel way of living. So, thank you for these, hope you don’t mind me stealing from you!

Take all you need ❤️ your metaphor is powerful - I want you to visualise the act of putting the cables back in full working order and allowing yourself to feel the positive impact. Working with metaphor is something I do in the fern programme and it can be super transformative for those who have visual imaginations. Try it out x Suzy

Her symptoms were the same as mine are: chest pain, palpitations, terrible fatigue, muscle fatigue, predictable and unpredictable post exertional stuff, right down to the random insomnia... plus a lot of other random things. The tests show I am fine, but my body is just not functioning like normal. I tried to push through, but things just got worse. Now I am trying pacing, slowing down, art, mindfulness etc.

This is great. I really relate to the breathing anxiety. As I’ve seen a breathing physio last weekend and she told me my breathing is fine mechanically although I still get air hunger. it was disordered at the start and even before covid. Although very mildly as I can remember having to sleep with a fan as if I lay down at night my breathing was strange esp when it was warmer weather and I noticed it waking too at one point - all before I had covid. As I was fixated with something being wrong after a chest infection - 6 months before covid and leading up as well as a palpitation episode and lots of most likely unneeded antibiotics, stress, no sleep and over doing things. Anyway, my physio told me to stop breathing exercises and breath holds for the moment. As my unconscious breathing is fine but when I focus on it I get air hunger. As well as if I do breath holds. So I will return once I believe I’m safe as I’m seeing a counsellor and osteopath to fix my spine and help calm my physical body (as I reacted badly to reducing beta blocker and started to get adrenaline surges through the night in Sept last year, then I reduced it again before Xmas because I was a gluten for punishment and it all happens again along with terrible physical anxiety worse than at the start of long covid. This has improved thankfully. But I have terrible heaviness in the body/limbs, head, neck, shoulder blade, back pain and nerve sensations, tightening in my, sternocleidomastoid, head, throat, neck and pain /pressure/twitching in my eye now which worsens using arms and walking. Which hopefully my lovely oestopath can sort as my heart is behaving much better. Although air hunger comes and goes. I can mainly ignore through distraction, nasal breathing , singing, short nasal walks, reading out loud (slowing my speech), reassuring myself I am fine, as the fear has been my biggest issue. So thanks both xx

Go to that website and look for a provider in your area. They have the most knowledge on how to treat long covid and tons of testimonials that it works. Just trust the process and be consistent.

Excellent interview. I've seen Jackie in some of the groups and have listened to her podcast too, excellent work. Nice to see she getting to a place where she feels confident to have this conversation. Enjoy the rest of your recovery. Great interview, Suzy.

Although I’m incredibly anxious about my symptoms. I don’t agree with avoiding public spaces as I believe I need to keep topping up my immune system by coming into contact with bugs, in my opinion. Even if we stay away from others we will eventually get unwell it will be worse as we haven’t been in public regularly. I believe getting covid wasn’t the issue for me but the state of my body and mind. So there is no reason I will go back if I look after myself emotionally and physically. ❤ Although I do understand the fear of reinfection and did have it earlier in my journey.

N95 masking in situations where there’s no value to showing your mouth and nostrils(i.e. going to a supermarket) is a helpful way to re-enter public while managing the risk. I’m a bit concerned about the casual talk of reinfection in this video, as it contradicts many’s experience with reinfection and studies on risk of complications. It is true that covid increases serious health outcomes and complications and each reinfection increases those risks. These risks remain increased beyond the acute infection period, lasting at least years. I think it’s totally reasonable and healthy to get back out in public but with reasonable precautions (masking in indoor public situations, ventilation) but to carry on as if it’s 2019 is short sighted. Long covid or not, this virus is still horrible and not like the bugs we were used to catching from day to life in the “before times.”
