I appreciate that Jackie talks about dark skin being on a spectrum. I also don't like being called brown skinned because to me it feels colorist. I've always loved being chocolate and I wanted to be darker like my pops 🤣 My mom is high yella/hella pale fully black brunette lady and she always told me my skin was beautiful. I've never understood why people around my skin complexion would try to tell me I'm not dark skinned I'm brown as if brown isn't a dark color 🤔

I totally get what you're saying. I feel a lot of people try to make the distinction between "brown" and "dark" because not all shades of tan/brown are very deep/dark. Like you can call someone Angela Bassett's complexion dark-skinned, but she's not as dark as somebody like Viola Davis. I suppose people are just trying to be more specific.

I think medium dark, deep dark, rich etc are more specific and descriptive. also - the distinction in so many scenarios doesn’t really actually matter.

Yes, Jackie I definitely agree with you. People will definitely call you or themselves brown-skinned when they're your color because they don't want to be considered dark skinned. They treat dark skinned like its a bad word because that's how they use it. On the other hand, there are those that are deep dark that will say that you're not dark because of the trauma they experience for being deep dark. But what's really wild is if you start calling yourself brown skinned, folks would come out the woodwork to tell you that brown skinned is not a real thing. Its really people speaking from their trauma and biased thoughts instead of being objective. Brown is a dark color and there is nothing wrong or bad about being dark.

Dark liner & gold lipstick is the ultimate 90s vibe for me b/c complexion products back then were the STRUGGLE!!! Foundation was either too thick, too red, or too expensive until I discovered Cover Girl Toasted Almond 😂
