I love how I have faint memories about some myths. It's as if I saw some scenes but not the entire experient. I wonder how much I've learned first hand with the Mythbusters.

Ahh, one of the biggest heartbreaks of Mythbusters for me. To add to comments below: The bunkers of the Wolfschanze were designed to withstand a very serious air-raid, since Hitler was convinced the Allies and Soviets would have tried to kill him if they ever discovered his location. The fortifications within Sperrkreis 1 were thus built to withstand direct hits by 1000 pound bombs, and consisted of steel reinforced concrete of around two meters thick. Concrete that thick is not going to behave in a ductile fashion like the container did and transfer the energy of the blast into the surrounding soil and will instead reflect the blast back in a way that causes a constructive influence on the original blast wave and potentially increases its magnitude by a significant factor. Most frustrating to me is that their small scale testing actually showed this phenomenon in action, with a sufficiently rigid steel box replicating the characteristics of the bunker in a way that their large scale test did not.
@jhfgjtjutyiuodАй бұрын
Most of the explosive energy in the underground bunker test went out through the container doors which were not nearly buttressed enough compared to the rest of it.
@tomoverballe3755Ай бұрын
A WW2 bunker was not a container buried in a little soil. It was a meters thick reinforced concrete structure with bank wault like doors.
@Sierra-87Ай бұрын
Not exactly with "bank vault-like doors" - But, certainly A LOT more solid, than Container hatches..(?) :)
@haydendegrow945Ай бұрын
I still say they should have buried the "bunker" completely in soil. Leaving the doors vulnerable like that probably skewed their results.
@KandiKloverАй бұрын
They've always been sloppy.
@coreypatterson5827Ай бұрын
Unfortunately, that would've made it all but impossible to test the myth safely. It would have made the detonator much harder to wire up, and if anything failed, someone would have to put themselves in harm's way long enough to dig the whole thing up, fix the wiring, and bury it again.

Which leads to the question. How many times can you cut a table in half until it is no longer a table?
@stevelenox152Ай бұрын
If I remember correctly the table leg also helped to save Hitler also in the movie Valkyre you see Staffenburgs assistant take about half of the entire amount of explosive and throw it away as they drove away after the job was done. Poor Grant he's back in zee cooler lol
@BlackPawn14Ай бұрын
Furthermore, as mentioned at the end, the bomb was not directly under Hitler as intended; it's presumed that one of the officers in attendance unwittingly pushed the bomb away from Hitler with his feet, eventually putting it behind the table leg (believing it to be simply a briefcase; he ended up actually moving the bomb closer to himself, and therefore died from the blast). Regarding the "half amount of explosive", Wikipedia states that Stauffenberg intended to use two bombs, but ran out of time to activate the primer on the second bomb; hence why he returned it to his assistant.
@stevelenox152Ай бұрын
@BlackPawn14 correct i believe that if the full amount was used then open room or not Hitler would of died maybe not from the initial blast but from the wounds he would of resived.

Grant was wrong on one thing, you can get less hungry/tired without their pre-reqs if you take strong enough drugs, chemicals are pretty cool like that.

for the slap test they really shouldve done one where it goes control -> slap -> impaire instead of all control -> impaire -> slap to make sure they are not just getting used to the imparied state

Good. This information may come in handy.
@KingKradАй бұрын
An interesting episode, but a) the bunker wasn't completely underground, it was barely buried. Why not burry it completely? The blast was able to escape through the cracks. Dump enough sand / dirt over it, and the power would've been much higher. And this is ME saying that, who knows next to nothing about science stuff. Where's the reinforced concrete? The reinforced door? Heck, if you REALLY wanted to do it accurately, you'd have to make an ACTUAL bunker with everything that comes with it.

As far as I remember, from 'Valkyrie' - IF what Christian Berkel said, was correct - Von Stauffenberg used; "2 975-gram packs of Plastic-W".. 975x2=1.950, right? So, if the information from the movie IS correct, I'd love to see the results of such a test. Though, I know it won't be on MythBusters anymore... 😕
