That's amazing. I never would have thought the movement of jumping between the pillars to look so smooth in orthographic space! Great work!

Why didn't the character change his size when jumping from one path to the other, being that the path below is far back? Sorry if this is a noob question, I'm not a game maker. Edit: thank you both for the answers, I understand now!

@@fernandomartin9190 Because he changed the camera's view from perspective to ortographic. This makes it so objects doesnt scale up or down, no matter how close or far they are from the camera.
@chyza2012
@chyza2012 4 жыл бұрын
That's how an ortographic projecton works. Imagine the camera lens being a massive flat piece of paper, then you simply project a ray straight from it and paint whatever colour it hits onto the paper. The rays will paint the same picture regardless of whether the thing they hit is 2 meters from the paper or 200, because they don't spread out as they go, they maintain the same parallel angle. Its mostly used in top down games, because when they used to be 2d, you could draw a single sprite for an object and it'd work for every point at the screen, while with a realistic projection if you shift something to the side or up or down it'll warp and distort. It was a good way of faking 3d without actually doing it, not its mostly for aesthetic reasons.

Yeah, I thought it would give some visible artifacts too. But when you consider that the travel time from node to node is the same, it becomes smooth like that. It was an awesome video. :)

I love how you breakdown mechanics to their core ideas and give great waypoints without spelling out every line of code! I'd love to see a video about dialogue systems, every breakdown I've seen is way to convoluted. Maybe Paper Mario is a good example? Also your motion design and editing is on point!

Thank you for these videos! They really inspire me to keep exploring game development as a hobby. :) I'm sure you get a ton of requests already, but if you ever run out of Ideas I may have a couple of cool features you could recreate: Firstly, a game named Control just came out and it has a really fun and unique "telekinesis" ability. This allows you to pick up physics objects and make them fly at a target, or simply attract them to you. It's fantastic, even other nearby objects get "attracted" by the force field. It would be great to see that recreated. You could also recreate the Mimic ability from Prey (or even the Mimics themselves (; ). This ability allows you to turn into physics objects and roll yourself around to get through tight spaces. I would also love to see some of the Titanfall 2 abilities. The game already has one of the best movement systems including sliding and wallrunning. While I would love to see your take on that, other abilities of the game are equally fluid. The most known ability is the grappling hook, which allows you to swing yourself across maps at ridiculous speeds. There is also the Phase shift ability which temporarily "shifts" you to another dimension.

Which one was harder to make, in your opinion? Also, I am always here to suggest Arkham Combat system, but now I also would love to see how to make an autochess game, 2 or 3d, I really love the genre! So please, Arkham CS or Autochess mechanics next pleeeeease
