OKAY SO. Biggest diy Christmas move for those on a budget. My mom always goes to Home Depot and asked for the cuttings from the Christmas trees. They are happy to give them to her for free, since she gathers what’s essentially their trash for them. She makes amazingly beautiful wreaths and garland

I've done the same thing with the free tree trimmings and used them as a tablescape garland, or even inserted them into my fake Christmas tree and it makes the tree look fuller. Also makes it smell nice and if you can find the exact type of trimmings the same as your tree, most people cant really tell unless they look really close. 😊

Sad to say I've been using this tip for years but Home depots (and other) has wizened up to this hack and they are super stingy with the branch cuttings 😔

As a florist I can tell you that it's almost impossible to keep the greens from crisping up inside in the warm air. I can however recommend you a type of fir called silver fir! It holds up better inside than other types, and even when it crisps a bit the needles won't immediately fall off. It is native to Europe but I'm pretty sure you grow them in Canada as well!

Ooh! Would you recommend using the tiny plastic bud “vases” on the end of cut boughs?? (the ones that are usually popped on single flowers at a wedding… green with a rubber thing on top to keep water in)

All the associations with Xmas (decorations, trees, etc) are all pagan based. They have nothing to do with Christianity. I’m writing my final paper in college on this concept!

I enjoy just decorating for the season. I’ve never decorated for holidays because I hate “unnecessary clutter” lol but I enjoy changing up the colors of my throw pillows and blankets during spring/summer and fall/winter. Or treating myself to fresh cut flowers just to brighten up the space every once in awhile.

You can still celebrate it, it's not a religious holiday anymore. Started off pagan, got plagiarized by forced christian conversion, then got morphed/plagiarized again when atheism became more common it's faaaar from the original concept by now. It's about as religious as halloween or labour day.

I diy'ed fresh garland on my staircase last year. It was beautiful. Literally within a day the needles started falling off. A week later every time someone went up or down the stairs, hundreds and hundreds of needles fell off in huge bunches. By the time Christmas arrived, I had bare sticks. I had to vacuum every day, usually 3 or 4 times a day. I ended up taking it down on Boxing Day. Meanwhile, all the garland I placed outside lasted until Spring. Lesson learned.

@chetunka3 жыл бұрын
Ad garland: as a florist i recommend hydrate the twigs beforehand (at least few hours before using them). If outside, no need to use any florist spray, the cold weather will preserve it well enough. If inside, you can use the spray but it won’t take long for the needles to drop off anyway.. its caused by the heat (the lower temperature the better for the twigs). Well, nature is hard to fool:D only hack is to combine real ones with artificial.

I hate having to store Christmas stuff too, I have no budget and I live in a small space, so that’s what I do (also eco friendly): I ask my parents to cut few tree branches from their backyard for me and I put them in a vase, making the bouquet into a mini tree shape, you are able to make quite a tall one (also you can put a tree skirt on the vase so it looks like an actual mini tree)! Its so cute and no trees are harmed in the process. Then I just have a very small bag ornaments that doesn’t take up any space and vuala! Light some candles, make gingerbread cookies and mulled wine/tea and Christmas spirit is in your home without having to spend an extra penny. 🥳 And I loved that this video had many expra hacks how to make cheap eco decorations, will use the idea for sure!
