I was born 1955. We never had a silver tree, my mom couldn’t stand them. We always had a beautiful green tree with lovely traditional and sentimental ornaments. Back in the day, we never tried to match our holiday decor with our house decor theme. We just decorated for Christmas. Enjoy!

The thing with decorating anything is, just do you. When we are not confined by the need to fit into certain styles, we will find more joy and freedom into channeling our creativity and happiness through our creations. Just do what feels happy and right to you. Enjoy the process not to please other people's aesthetic standards but your's. Have a good holiday month y'all.

Gorgeous ornaments! Love the vintage vibe. You should raise up the tree on a platform so it better fits the room since you have such tall ceilings now. I remember seeing that at malls (in the US) in the 70's and 80's where they had trees up on big blocks. Maybe give it a try?? You never know!

I know you don’t like the 60s retro Christmas trees but as a child we had a silver tree with red and green ornaments as well as a color wheel that projected different colors onto the tree and I loved it! You totally scored with the amber glassware! `Woodsy retro` is how i see your style, but whatever you call it, it works beautifully in the house. I was born in 1950 and our tree was always a real one, my mum and dad were both very artsy (Dad an artist, mum a drama teacher) and they would never put a silver tree in their house! lol . We lived in England til I was 14 though so I don`t know if the trees were a North American thing or what. I remember having the birds with the clips though.

a good hack for Christmas tree-skirts is cutting a thick card board into a cone the size of the tree skirt then cut a slit to be able to wrap the card board around the tree add stick on velcro to secure it shut and the skirt on to the card board keeps the skirt in place and it won't wrinkles :)

I have to put myself in context, I was born in 1955. Spent my childhood in the '60s and my teenage years and college years in the 70s. Never in my life has my family ever had a metal tree for Christmas. The magazines put those ridiculous aluminum trees everywhere, but my parents always bought a little pine tree from the local tree lot. I don't think my mother ever bought a fake tree while I was living at home. So don't feel like you're not in keeping with the era of your home when you get a warm and cozy Christmas tree. I sometimes use just a length of fabric for a tree skirt, especially when my color needs are not very Christmassy. Also a large basket might work, then with fake presents in the basket...the crock was a great idea, but not that particular one. I had a cast iron antique stand (for a real tree) that I loved, but it was very heavy (no kidding) and never really worked for the fake tree. It is now a kindling holder outside.

I move two tall plant shelves that live in front of a large window for 10.5 months, so the tree can be enjoyed from both the outside as well as our living room. As for the Christmas theme throughout the apartment I don't really have one, but all the decor is gold, royal blue and purple. The decor is a mixture of vintage, thrifted, things from January sales and my mother. We'll be hosting Christmas day for the 3rd time and I'm already stressed, but all the cold drinks make the day go faster in the heat. Just decorate for Christmas and enjoy.

Acually the silver was saved for the foil icicles that we all know now are so bad. same i like the retro galss balls and the ones that are so fragile theres always one that breaks and when they do its like silver glass on the inside. at the farm when i was small we would always have a 10' tree and when we moved we always cut down the biggest one that would fit in the house. the smell of a real xmas tree and a wood fire give me warm cozy feelings. oh and cant forget the red velvet xmas dresses and patent leather shoes i had to wear as a kid. omg i just rememberd we used to have a train running around the base of the tree on the velvet skirt. plus big red stockings hung by the fire with your names. plus a 20' communal dinning table with every chair/stool/bench/milk can in the house used lol noone wanted the milk can lol. i guess its more than aesthetic its a felling.

BUBBLE BULBS and twinkle lights multi colors, beaded garland, or tinsel garland, folded paper stars or bells, just a few things. Always, candy cane and chocolate Santas that hung on the tree. Ice Cycles made out of strands of thin long thin tin foils strips called ice cycles. Peace!

Later, she added a red satin ball and bows to the gold ornaments when my dad grew tired of the monochromatic tree. It was simple but really pretty.

That bumpy amber bottle is an Empoli italian "genie" decanter. See if you can find the stopper online, they're beautiful.

Yes! I was coming here to say this. I collect them. And honestly as a vintage buff and dealer, $40 for that amber pedestal decanter is such a steal. It would look amazing on a bar/bar cart once the holidays are over 😊.

I grew up in the “mid century”, and though the neighbors had aluminum trees, we never did. Ours was more traditional, with no real theme, but always had lots of silver tinsel. In MY house, we did the same thing: The tree was traditional green, we had lots and lots of various ornaments, and finished with “tinsel”, though ours was made in the blacksmith’s shop at a nearby museum. Every year, we took the kids, and all of us got to use his tools to twist a piece of tin tinsel to take home. We pack our tree with ornaments, and hang the tinsel last. It has a little movement, and catches the light. And just pulls it all together. Now that the kids are all grown, our tree is just 4 ft tall, with mostly homemade and special ornaments…..and tinsel. It’s still beautiful, and I love knowing that a lot of the tinsel is on my daughters’ trees, carrying on the tradition.

Becky, I love your decor. It makes me so nostalgic. Usualy I don't like retro decor because it feels so kitschy. But you do it so tastefully it just seems natlural and comfy just like what I grew up with. 😁❤

I think the orange floral blanket with white tassels at the first shop could have worked well as a retro tree skirt. I like the colour scheme you’ve gone for - burnt orange / amber is one of my favourites

I was born in '52 in Scotland where Christmas became a holiday in 1958. We moved to Canada in '55. Mum bought a silver tree. Mum was orphaned and as she adapted to Canadian life was fashionably fun. But I totally agree that festive style is a conundrum.

We do a loose woodland theme for our tree but the most of our ornaments are actually ones we’ve collected on our travels. We buy a new Christmas decoration on every trip. So it’s a bit of a hodgepodge of decorations. There’s the Viking from Iceland, alongside a goat garland from Morocco and a “lady of the night” in the window of a house from Amsterdam. We started the tradition with a handmade dried grass angel we bought on our honeymoon in Prague and carried on ever since. The filler ornaments include woodland creatures, birds nests, bird houses and pine cones

I am currently obsessed with the idea of a 1950s pink christmas tree. Normally I am into the 60s and 70s, but the atomic 50s are my yuletide aethetic. MCM for life!

My christmas style is definitely eclectic. The more colourful/unique the ornaments the better. Mum and I go christmas ornament shopping each year which I really love since I have great memories for each ornament I have collected so far. My mum is definitely a christmas maximalist, she managed to break her old tree because she put too many ornaments on it. She has ornaments from when I was a child and from different places we have visited overseas. Also a separate tree for her reindeer collection. Yes. She has a 'reindeer tree' to make sure you can see all the reindeer ornaments she has collected and to make sure they don't get lost in her massive (9 ft) tree. It takes 3 days to decorate the tree in her house, and she still fusses with it afterwards to make sure all the ornaments are placed correctly. There are tonnes of great memories each time we decorate the tree as we tell stories about the ornaments we hang up. There are always ornaments that we have forgotten about so there is some fun surprises each year. I have also gotten into a habit of gifting christmas ornaments to my friends for their trees. Decorating for christmas has always been important to me so I try to pass the fun memories on when I can.

Oh gosh Becky, I feel like you captured a lot of good vibes, I grew up with a lot of 70's things, and our Christmas tree had glass ornaments that had cool shapes and great colors, we also had ice cicles that my mom and I would put on the branches every year, we also had garlands that were made out of beads that wrapped around the tree. I still have a lot of those older ornaments and I also gave my daughter and son in law and grand kids some of the older ornaments because I wanted my daughter to enjoy those ornaments that were her grandparents. I also remember that the tree skirt that my parents had was made from felt and had some decor onround it that my mom made from beads and sequens I still have those they are just no longer attatched to the tree skirt that wore out. Thanks for a really fun video that I loved watching, Merry Christmas to you, Austin and cute Danny, stay safe and happy, sending love and hugs, bye!! 🥰💚🌺❄☃🎄

We have a 4ft memory tree in the hall with handmade ornaments/decorations brought either for us or what we bought on our travels,so a very varied tree. In the past I did all antiques maroons with gold but found it too dark,so now have purples/golds/creams on the lounge tree al9ng with a fibre optic small tree with bookcases and inglenook fireplace all decorated, then in the dining room I've 4 trees ,one 4foot twig( white) tree decorated all with birds of different sizes and shapes,2 smaller white twig trees with glass thin teardrops/icicles, then 6ft white snow flock tree with bronze antique metal decorations, then blue and gold baubles and then just ligh6s in the kitchen. Takes a whole day to decorate ☺️

We always had a flocked tree and my mother put on white lights and a one color theme balls. Simply beautiful. Late 50s and early 60s. Flocked trees were very expensive so my dad started to do the flocking himself. Lovely memories!

As a 70's kid, we always had a real tree but tinsel did feature heavily, but not the Icicle tinsel. My parents had a ring that for over the top branch of the tree that had long stands of tinsel on it. After putting it over the top (just under the star/angel) you soul then spread the tinsel out around the tree. It was then "carefully packed away for the next year. My parents had that until into the 90's

Loooove the amber orange. I think the nutcracker could use some TLC to make him even more 70s :) Also love that for autumn decor at the old house you went colourful, and here you're going more simple (and orange!). the orange just plays so well with the palette of your house/surroundings. merry christmas!!!!

Here in The Netherlands 🇳🇱 we didn't really sell fake Christmas trees in the 60s/70s. My Parents (b.1931/b.1933) always had a real tree. "Our" Christmas decoration style slowly chanded over their 50+ year marriage. As a small child, in 1976, I still remember we had real Christmas candles in our real tree (with my Dad and and a bucket of sand next to it - if the tree should accidentally go up in flames!!). That was, till real trees (even tiny ones) got sooo expensive, at the end of the 80s. So that's when we invested in a, German bought, small fake one in 1989. Which served my elderly Parents till they both passed away in 2019. I still have some of their most cherished real glass tree ornaments from the 60s, that I display (I don't have a Christmas tree: because of storage room issues). Decorating Christmas trees is such a personal thing: when it comes to the style choice. ✌🏻☺️🇳🇱
