I've already gone through a lot of videos about Obsidian and its various features, plugins, etc. But your channel is definitely the best I've discovered. I'm French and not very good at English, but subtitles help me a lot (I should start learning this language which I really like and which has become almost essential, but hey...). I really wanted to leave this comment because, once again, your channel is really great. So, thank you very much for the work you do.

@daviddelgadovendrell2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Some other advanced todo's advanced users also states that the use of labels produces a level of friction that might increase your time managing tasks. The extreme case is Notion, where you can spend most of your time defining parameters rather than 'doing' the tasks.

Great video Sergio. So much better than the complex ones I've seen like those from Carl Pullein. One other integration you forgot that is great is the Obsidian sync - I find it great to have a a page in the Obsidian side panel with my filter search there

Do completed tasks stay organized under dates they were scheduled or completed upon? 4. How long do tasks stay in archive after completion (i make monthly reports for my work. It would be good to have them archived)

The free version of Todoist unfortunately does not have reminders, limits to 5 projects (be they top-level or subprojects), and only 300 active tasks per project. Users in the Office 365 ecosystem may want to explore Microsoft To Do rather, which is free. It has reminders, subtasks, recurrence, unlimited 'projects' and 'subprojects' (in the form of groups and lists), subtasks, as well as some natural language processing of task due dates and times
@VaughanVanDyk8 ай бұрын
Thanks for such a thorough overview Sergio -- 2 years later am curious whether you still use Todoist? I have this debate about using a task manager for my tasks to do vs my daily note approach in Obsidian. The former is obviously better equipped for tracking tasks but the latter is where we spend most of our time making sense of things.
@FromSergio8 ай бұрын
It's tough, but like you said the former is better equipped for this job. That's ultimately how I settled!
@peetafunkadelic Жыл бұрын
I like that, it's minimalistic, however, one question, how do you handle cases where you need to be reminded about? I feel like setup some "task" recurring and let the app ping me at the specified time is a quite good feature, but reminders feature is behind Todoist's paywall though. I was thinking about taking your workflow and applying it to Apple's Reminders, but their Desktop experience is just 🤮

@jthansen50722 жыл бұрын
You mentioned that todoist will send you an automatic reminder if you set a time for a task - however, you also mentioned that you use the free plan. Are automatic reminders available in the free plan? Is it only custom reminders that you have to pay for?
@FromSergio2 жыл бұрын
Actual reminders (push notifications) are a paid feature. When I mentioned "reminding" I didn't mean it in a push notification type of way, but rather in a different color right on top type of way. Should have made that clear. Thanks for bringing this up!
@jthansen50722 жыл бұрын
@@FromSergio ok - thank you - I use the free plan and the google calendar integration. When I need a reminder, I just set a google calendar reminder on the todoist task - so, google calendar reminds me
@FromSergio2 жыл бұрын
That works! Personally, I don't benefit from the reminders, I never used them before when I used to pay for the premium version. The stuff I need a reminder for I just use google calendar, so exactly how you do it but without the integration :)
@fahmi9 Жыл бұрын
@@FromSergio not sure I understand. You say you use Google calendar for anything that requires a reminder, but clearly a lot of the tasks you show in this video also requires a time reminder. I want to use todoist and I need a reminder for the tasks (otherwise i see little point in its function as a to-do manager) but I don't think the premium plan is worth it just for that. Glad to read about the workaround of the Google calendar integration.

Do you integrate todoist into obsidian? If so I would like to see a video on how you do that. Thanks
@FromSergio2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t, I use them separately!
@ksoonsoon2 жыл бұрын
@@FromSergio I completely understand and that was actually my original intention. However, after seeing some implementations from other users, now, I think I would like to integrate Todoist into obsidian. I understand there are some limitations with doing this, the biggest one I understand is that it is a one-way informational flow, where Todoist data can be displayed in obsidian, but obsidian generated to do items cannot be sent back to Todoist. For me, that is fine. My objective is while I use the Obsidian tool, I believe that would be advantage just being aware of the to do items I have, even though I know I would have to update them in the Todoist app. At very least, it would remind me of the work I have to do and there is enough advantage in that single thought to push me in that direction. Conceptually, it seems like a relatively simple idea where you would use a data filter to only show specific to do list items on specific days. Although you don’t use it this way, given your knowledge of the subject matter, I would sure like to see your communication of how this would take place if you did it. Thanks much. (You never know, maybe one day there will be bi directional flow of information And this will become even more valuable, even though it may not ever surpass the value of using Todoist primarily on its own since that was what it was made for.)

Sergio, Great video... Do you know if there is a way make the due date for a sub-task be be indexed-off of the due date of the "parent"-task? In other words, if a task is due 3 weeks before the parent-task's due date, can that sub-task's due date (and all of the other sub-tasks due dates) auto-fill based on the parent-task's due date? I'm trying to use it as an event planning template, and the due dates for everything is based off of the event date. So I want the tasks (or sub-tasks possibly?) to be auto-filled based on the overall event date). Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
@FromSergio2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jimmy, I'm not sure I understand your question correctly. Particularly this part: > In other words, if a task is due 3 weeks before the parent-task's due date, can that sub-task's due date (and all of the other sub-tasks due dates) auto-fill based on the parent-task's due date? By "auto-fill" do you mean that you want that sub-task's due date to be automatically populated with the parent task's due date? I thought that was what you meant but the beginning of that line says" if a task is due 3 weeks before..." so i'm assuming this is not what you're asking? Could you elaborate?

How do you link Obsidian notes to Todoist tasks? In most note apps you could just paste the link but since Obsidian is offline there's no link to share.
@filsmartins2 жыл бұрын
For obsidian you have the Todoist sync which lets you display your tasks in a note. On the other hand, in a project, you can create a non-actionable task (by typing "* Name of the task") which you can use to past the obsidian note URL scheme. Hope this helps

In Obsidian, tap or click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the tab you’re in. There’s an option to “Copy Obsidian URL”. I paste that link into Todoist tasks in the description field of the task. When you click the link, it will open Obsidian right to your note.

@Filipe Martins I agree. I submitted a feature request to them 2 years ago.. Hard to believe you'd need 4-5 steps just to dictate. There's alternatives though. You can use the app drafts which supports 1-1-tap dictation and then use a script to get in todoist or there might be a workaround with IFTTT or Zapier. Needless to say none of this is ideal and todoist really should just implement a 1-tap feature especially when competitors have done it years ago like things 3. As of now I only use dictation tool when i'm driving otherwise I just have an inbox widget on the phone and use that instead.
