Thank you for your teaching methods. I have not yet used them on an exotic bird but I did on my blue jay I rescued, raised and sent back out into the wild with a female who came daily to the window until I had to let him go with her otherwise he would have harmed himself on the window glass. I taught him to meow and say Here kitty kitty! He could sing the first five note stanza of the Star Wars theme. Luckily he did not keep those skills but he does still visit our bird feeder and say hello at the window with his wife. He lets me know if the bird feeder is being hogged by the squirrels or there are hawks outside.

Hi! Zazu’s mom here. Progress update: This works perfect!!! I can have her out in the house and she doesn’t fly to the other birds now. Now the other birds fly to her cage and zazu flies away. I am at the point now where I can have them both out at the same time. Now I am watching for a refresher to teach my conure.

taught one of my previous pigeons to do this to go back to his cage since he was hand shy. SO helpful. all bird owners need to teach this i swear down ❤

Im so glad you mentioned , stationing, I learned it from you guys, Dave and Jamie, and tought it to my bird, it really is a great tool for them to know, thanx again, then I showed my boyfriend that Jake knows stationing, wonderful thing they do need to know, I mean all parrots.♥️♥️♥️

I don't know if you guys ever worked with a kakariki (red-crowned-parakeet) but this seems nearly impossible with them 😂Mine eats the reward while already aiming where she is going to fly next, their attention window is so incredibly small. I'm gonna try it anyway, never say never I guess hahaha

Same with my cockatiel. He often won't even finish his reward in order to do something else at the same time. His attention span is non-existent, basically. Outside perches are useless cause he just doesn't want to stand there 😂

Yea this isn’t possible with Kakarikis sadly. Their energy level is closer to finches and canaries and less like parrots. Mine are all over the place, all the time.

My Kakariki was a little of work as a rescue who had his one eye eaten by another bird before he made it to the rescue. They are the type of birds that need regular training and they kinda forget somewhat. Whenever he is not focusing, I ask him to touch my finger and it resets him and he is ready to go. They are tricky Oh I also need to add they are highly sensitive, like extremely, sounds, lights, etc. We had the sudden death of our old cockatiel who serenaded our Kakariki through out the day every single day, hit him hard and I mean hard. He plucked his back and chest. Took time but we are back to normal after 6 months. But I wouldn't trade him for anything.

Yeah I still wanna try when I get kakariki (my prev died few years ago sadly) They are TOO energetic. I think females might do it better than males, I've noticed they are calmer and more busy with slowly exploring than just running around as crazy chickens 😂 also if it's a young bird, it might work? I've seen freeflight kakariki videos tho, so at least teaching them flying to your hand is possible. Beside that,such an awesome small parrot species :D

Hello, I have been watching your videos for several years and I admire your techniques. I have 2 macaws. Zeke, a B&G, will be 29, on July 1st. I hand fed him, from a 4wk old chick. He is incredibly cuddly, loving, and he has the best sense of humor(yes, he's a very funny bird!). He talks a lot and only screams if he's warning me about an intruder in the back yard, or if the neighbors go into their back yard. My problem lies in my adopted/rescued, Harlequin hybrid. I've had her since 2005 and I've worked hard to get her to be cuddly and calm. She's a horrendous plucker, even though I provide 97" soft, cotton spring perches for her to destroy. And fresh towels daily, for her to shred apart. Aside from plucking, she screams every time I go into the kitchen to prepare their meals, or when I have to leave the room, for any reason. I have tried using a squirt bottle, but that's not even working anymore. She also freaks out when I take a shower in the middle of the day, so I have to shower when it's dark out. I'm sure that you already have numerous videos about this subject, plucking and screaming, so if you could direct me to the courses that are best for my situation, that would be excellent. One thing of note, is that both birds have their own 5' X 5' X 8' playpen, custom made, 100% manzanita, and beautiful works of art. Neither bird has a cage and they seem to love their playpens. They are across the room from one another, because they don't get along. Zeke is a DNA sexed male and I'm fairly certain that BeBe is a female. Would you recommend sexing her to find out if she is, in fact, female? I don't see how sexing could help the situation, as neither bird likes the other, and there's no chance that they would ever get together and groom one another. Thank you for taking the time to read about my dilemma! 🦜 💜 🦜

Does she need to bathe or be bathed? Because the squirt bottle would be super contradictory to that. I’d suggest leaving a message at the Birdtricks website about the issues with your birds. Maybe a FaceTime or Zoom consultation would be in order.

If the screaming and anxiety (pluckers are usually high strung birds) are from hormones a last resort would be a hormone implant. My Catalina Macaw might be getting one. She is not a plucker but is very hormonal. Please never use a spray bottle on your bird. Thats an old time thing that makes them afraid of bathing.

I haven't watched the full vid yet but right off the bat, I know that poicephalus species (senegals, meyers, cape parrots, red-bellied, etc.) are naturally VERY aggressive towards other birds. They are known to attack and even kill other birds frequently. I have to keep my senegal, Griffin, away from the other birds, including my larger eclectus because he will try to attack him. I have seen them get along with other poi species but generally speaking, they aren't usually good with other birds. There is always the exception. I am interested to see as the video goes on how you can work on this 💚

I have a funny for you all. My first Budgie Angel is clicker conditioned. Sometimes I will ask her to come or step up and get some definace or hesitation from her. If I pull out the clicker though she will excitedly do as I have asked to get the click and reward 🤣

My conures kept attacking my Amazon, and she kept avoiding them. But when my male flew at her face, she nailed him. My birds go into their cages at 8 and eat their millet. Light go out at 9. There is a blackout blind and blackout curtain in each of the two windows in their room. As soon as the lights go out, they are quiet. The door opens and I turn on the light at 11 am and everyone says hi. My Amazon gets along with all my other birds but not my bonded pair of conures. That pair does not get along with any of my birds, not even the other Conure I have. They eat Roudybush and I make them a veggie mash. Just made a huge batch.

Her assumption that any interaction with another bird will end in a fight is a mini lesson in trauma. I think the biggest take away is how you worked through that moment and debriefed what actually happened.

I've been watching ima survivor sanctuary they have ostriches which they know nothing about poor things but do any of these tricks work for knowing hormonal ques, and to understanding the thing birds do or is this normally for parrots and such?

I deal with rescues and all of them eat primarily Harrisons Lifetime Coarse. I went from seeds to Zupreem Fruit Blend (to get them used to pellets) to Harrisons. Once you get them on pellets you can try adding pellets to their chop to get them used to the chop.
