I tried to play all of the side missions as Jack, but when you play as him at the end, there's this overwhelming sense of loneliness that prevents you from doing anything. I guess that's just the way it is, you get your revenge, but it doesn't change a thing, they're all still gone, John, Abigail, Arthur, Dutch... it's just Jack, alone in the dying dream of the west...

there is a big diffrence between vengeance and retribution. Vengance is the excess in killing of people who had done nothing to you just cuz they relate to the person who done harm to you or killed your loved ones meaning you start an unfair chain of killing of people who were not the original perpetrators but retribution is the legal and just act of killing or harming only the person who harmed you in the same manner done to you and there is nothing wrong with that jack didn't kill ross's wife for being his wife she had nothing to do with his father's death

@Johnny Ortega Jack waited a long time to get revenge for his father's death. It's like Abigail was the only thing preventing him from going to Ross. Then she died and Jack didn't really want to sit on that feeling of wanting to kill, that feeling of anger, knowing he could never forgive Ross. He had to kill him, just like John had to kill Micah for Arthur. It's a vicious cycle, but without revenge and redemption, there's only emptiness.

Redemption has two meanings if we are going to be literal. Arthur's Redemption comes in the form of your decisions in chapter 6. 'The act of saving someone or being saved from a mistake, error, or sin.' John's redemption came in the form of saving his family from the government. 'The act of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing debt.' Sooo...save Jack the primary focuses of both games did indeed have some form of Redemption.

It doesn’t but at some point Ross had to face the consequences of his evil actions. That’s pretty much the recurring theme of these games. Which is awesome. Maybe the next game (if we have one with Jack) this little duel right here, might affect Jack later on. Plus Jack is pretty much similar to Red Harlow(Red dead revolver) at this point.

I like the way they showcase revenge on here. John's death was so tragic but when Jack finally manages to avenge his father it is as simple and fast as it could be. No drama, no getting emotional, no lengthy dialogues and no epic soundtrack, they didn't even make it as a proper quest. Just shooting and killing in cold blood and the feeling of emptiness that comes after.

Since it's canon that Landon came back to the US in the same year John dies: in 1911, and died a week before you get to play as Jack in 1914 (you can find that out in the epilogue Newspaper where he dies quietly in his sleep in Blackwater i.e. near Beecher's Hope). I like to think in those last few years of his life Landon went out of his way to train Jack the same way he trained John. It would actually make sense since Jack, at 19, turns out to be as a capable fighter as John is just before he died, and I doubt Jack trained 3 years by himself to turn out to be just as good as his father with a gun with no mentor. *While gunfighting, Jack mentions stuff like "My pa new Landon Ricketts friend!" and "Landon Ricketts, eat your heart out!"

I don't find it hard to believe that with the fame John had accrued, Landon knew he was gone, and knew he had a son. One day he turns up at the ranch, and stops at his grave. "Do I know you?" Jack might have said. "No, I don't believe so. I knew him though. Good man. Didn't think I'd outlive him." But then again, that would lessen the emptiness of it all. Then you wouldn't feel so alone.

Jsnsjs Hdhsj that’s true but the cattleman is the revolver you start with and depending on whether you use cheats or get the volcanic pistol is the only hand gun you’ll have throughout the New Austin mission strands it’s also canonically the weapon John dies with as no matter what weapon the player chooses to use in the final stand against Ross it will always change to the cattleman In the cutscene he dies in.

The severe irony of this for Ross is Ross never understood that his own saying "everyone gets what's coming to them" applied to himself as well. Heck, he even tried to pull what John Marston and his family did after the events of RDR2 by disappearing from the public eye to avoid his own violent life dragging him back in. Like John, Ross left enough of a trial for someone looking for him to find him, and finally corner him. The chief differences is that Ross needed an army to accomplish what the Marston family and Dutch's gang can by themselves and died a highly undignified and pathetic death sent to the depths of Hell, whereas Arthur and John (assuming high honor routes for both) earned their redemption and died pretty much at peace.

You’re reaching with the redemption part really really really hard lol, we love John and Arthur because the story forced us to. At the end of the day, they where criminals and murders and thiefs, they where not good men who sought redemption at the end but if God is as vengeful and spiteful and cruel as he is depicted in the Bible then sorry, they are all rotting, screaming in pain and agony right next to Edgar and as much as you might hate to hear it, there’s a higher chance Edgar ended up in heaven over any of em. We loved them cause the way the story was written, at the end of the day they where trash human beings who are rotting lol

Jack isn't a monster. He was just getting revenge on the man that ruined his life, John and Abigail had planned to send him to college so he could have a better life than they did, but Ross took all that away when he killed John. With Jack still a child, and Abigail a woman in a time when women didn't really get their own jobs, there was no way they could raise the money for him to go to college. With Ross having killed his father and taken away any prospect of a future in the new world of civilization Jack finished his childhood full of anger towards those that destroyed his family and his life. Ellie killing Abby would have ultimately meant nothing. The point of the ending in TLOU2 was that Ellie was able to finally forgive Joel, and let go of the hatred and unfinished business she had towards him. I don’t see how that’s disrespectful towards the player, it carries on pretty much exactly from where the first game ended.

@@Bentley109 Yeah, but shouldn't she have realized that while on the farm with Dina and JJ? Shouldn't she have realized that her revenge quest meant nothing and just lived a happy life? Why would she head out all that way to California, kill dozens of more people, only to not kill Abby (her main objective) in the middle of a fight to the death? Hell, Abby even bit two of her fingers off in the fight. Any person in that situation would have finished the other person off based on that alone. If Ellie did NOTHING, Abby would have still died on that pole. Ellie not only didn't kill Abby. She made the active choice to save her life. That makes absolutely zero sense. I'm saying that it made absolutely no sense for Ellie to continue her misguided revenge mission only to back out on it at the last possible moment. You could have had Ellie finish the job and still keep the "revenge is bad" narrative by having Dina still move out. The way it stands, there is zero closure or satisfaction for both the player and the protagonist. The whole game feels like a nightmarish waste of time because of it.

It’s incredible how this is the culmination of both games. The lives (at least what we play through) of both Arthur and John were devoted to avoiding exactly this. They died so that Jack could have a better future and not become a gunslinger like them. One can assume that after Jack killed Ross, the next few years of his life will be full of lawmen chasing him, just like John and Arthur. What a shame, yet a great ending.
