K i Spose That's the oldy but goldy syndrome - don't look it up, i just made up that name; basically it's what happen when we use nostalgia to keep a game good in our head, ignoring the fact that the old game has issues, and without how advance and accessible open-world games have become some old games don't hold the same standards from the time; Still looks like an awesome game, but time holds it back alot, like Jake said.

I'm playing this for the first time and enjoying the absolute hell out of it. Truly one of the better open world games I've ever played. I'd say it holds up very well. The complaints about the A.I. aren't something I can really get behind. As you said, shooting isn't really the focus of the game, it's destroying shit with your bombs and hammer. Having dumb fodder enemies run up to you mindlessly is great, because you can whack them with your hammer. It would be super frustrating and unfun if they were smart enough to keep distance, hide, run away, and dodge you as you're trying to hammer them. I usually just run at fools and hammer them rather than shooting. I really only break out the guns as a last resort when there's too many enemies around and I actually need to stay in cover, which doesn't actually happen very often.
@andrewmelnikov2925 жыл бұрын
Another great thing was that it actually showed *guerrilla* tactics. If you stay too much in the open, you are spotted. If you are spotted, interception team is sent your way. If you start mindlessly shooting your way through, you eventually drown in enemy reinforcements throwing infantry after armored cars after APCs after friggin' TANKS and ASSAULT PLANES your way. You're not a one-man army. Well, you actually are but you should always mind your limits and know when to get the hell out of there. There's always a bigger stick. I really like that feeling.

This game is one of the few I love. Also give Armageddon a chance, it takes awhile to get started - but around 40% through, it takes the physics and story up a notch.

I played this originally on PC years ago. This is so cool. I'm just finding out about this in 2024 man. I love the destruction in this game, way before Battlefield, you know. It's on sale on GOG for $4 right now.

I know it's not something you would normally do but you should do a before you buy for MXGP PRO.

I always either have the Nano Rifle or the Rail Driver with me at all times. I have yet to find a game that has destruction mechanics as good as this game. Not to mention it's also free roam so you can destroy whenever you please. I will most likely have this game until I die. Since I have finished the game I just turn on the cheats and wreck havoc typically in Eos cause the other areas just don't have the really cool buildings. I do agree with Jake when he said he has small play sessions just to destroy stuff because that is the biggest enjoyment of this game. Totally recommend this to anyone who wants to watch buildings and bridges of all kinds fall!

Never played this game. And wasn’t going to until the last minute of this video showed you controlling a mech to destroy shit. Now I’m sold.

Hell yeah, I recently started a new save. I wish I could go back and experience the game for the first time again. I always tell people that if they play this, they're in for one of the best gaming experiences of their life

I love this game series so much. What happened, did they just ran out of ideas or something? The latest one, Armageddon in 2011 was liked by 88% of its buyers.

The fact that this remaster was released for free to people on steam who owned the original is huge. THQ is amazing.

Spot on review! Loved the game, still do, and I think everyone should play through it. I'm really hoping that building destruction gets put in games in a much more main stream fashion.

The best part is that as an owner of the steam edition, you get a free copy of the re-mars-tered.

I haven’t played this version, but this is actually the game I use to critique other open world games by. Why? Because this is what everything was similar to at the time. Maybe not the first open world game, but the format was and is all that games use.

I play on a 1060 6 gb with an i5 7500, and I get some noticeable dips. I play on a g sync 144hz monitor and it dips to 60 and comes back up sometimes. All settings are at max basically, and I'm usually at 144+fps at all times.

This game reminds me of my childhood when I'd get a brand new $60 game maybe a few times a year and I would buy whatever I thought looked coolest after spending 90 minutes reading every xbox 360 case at my local gamestop. Sometimes I got burned (I'd play it anyways cause F it it's a video game and I have infinite free time as a kid) but it also led me to playing absolute gems like this game that I'll always remember fondly.

First RF game I played was RF:A, and I bought the Re"Mars"tered version and you're right about the "open world fatigue". Instead of RF:G, back then I played Mercenaries 2, Just Cause 2, and GTA 4. By now with their sequels, RF:G just doesn't cut it for me, and unfortunately the engine is still the same (Geo-Mod 2.0), just polished lighting and textures. If they'd have remastered it to Geo-Mod 3.0 brand new engine, then I'd probably be more hooked. But I'm just so tired of open-world that I prefer RF:A cause it's linear and I first played it last year.
