I actually agree with Bassett I hate it when SA against women is used as a plot driver. It's both horrific and lazy and feels like a terrible way to start out a journey with a hero. "You were just SAed so here are some magical powers as a consolation prize" is terrible; I guess the goddess couldn't show up 30 minutes earlier. And of course in 2024 it would be used as an opportunity to vilify all men. I still have doubts that a bad-ass sexy warrior woman is a movie that can be properly made any more but including the chainmail bikini is at least starting off on the right foot. Andre brings up a good point about Conan, and this has always been my problem with that particular narrative in every form of media including video games and comics. Was there a single Marvel film where the male lead didn't go shirtless at least once? Where are my topless super women Marvel? Both men and women are sexualized because people like their power fantasies to be sexy. There's nothing wrong with that.

I don't think a story about a strong woman needs to start with her getting assaulted, and then rising up from that - that story has been done to death, and I doubt that would appeal to audiences on a large enough scale to justify any sort of budget being poured into the film. ...But this production already has all the hallmarks of a "girl-boss" flick, with absolutely zero appeal to...pretty much anyone. Sexy men and women are SEVERELY lacking in these schlock-busters. This is not some uber-serious, ultra-dramatic masterwork they're adapting here; it's female Conan. It should have a sexy woman swashbuckling and killing a**holes, and being just generally charming throughout the movie. But we can already tell, from the way they're talking about this film, that they are going to make her insufferable, undefeatable, and thusly...a hollow character that no one will give a sh!t about. The best response I can think of, for this: "Good luck!" They'll need it.

To suggest those people failed a product, whether good or bad, is very disingenuous. As for others who did not show up to support, that is not their failing but the failure of the movie to inspire an interest/desire to do what a movie is supposed to. Matilda’s comments have deterred me from the movie. Comments not made for us are comments still heard by us and I will take said comments as they’re made, making my decisions based upon them.

And they get money by pretending women are beign opressed and keep out of power. When thats a lie. Most women prefer the love of man over power. You can find 100 stories of powerful women who just quit to get the love of man.

Once recent anime called "Tomo-chan is a Girl" does just that, she's physically strong but pretty (surprisingly busty also). Her male love interest and childhood friend (an over used trope yes) looks up to her, is no slouch either, and also physically strong himself. Both have a strong desire to be a couple and they become so by the end of the anime.

2B from Nier Automata is popular with both genders and yet Yoko Taro primarily designed her that way because, in his own words, he "likes girls". Rogue from the 90's X-Men run by Jim Lee was popular with women AND men. For Heaven's sake... Why is this so hard to grasp for some people?

A simple way to handle Red Sonja's origin would be to drop the actual 'grape' itself, and simply have her escape the massacre of her people. She is in hiding, and witnesses the death of her family and the rest of her tribe, and it is at that point she swears she will have her vengeance on those responsible no matter the cost. There are no magic sword play powers courtesy of a goddess, but instead she becomes the protegee of an aging yet legendary warrior who takes her in and takes pity on her for all she has suffered. He teaches her all he knows and she becomes like an adopted daughter to him before he too is killed by Sonja's enemies, though not before he cuts a goodly number of them down. She buries him, renews her oath of vengeance, and then she embarks on her quest with yet another dead friend and mentor to avenge. Simple, to the point, classic sword and sorcery stuff.

But that’s not her story tho smh 🤦 that’s like making a Wonder Woman movie and not having themyscira
@gregorygreenwood-nimmo49548 ай бұрын
@@superduperfanman2761 I think you will find that it doesn't match one of the origin stories for Red Sonja that was only retconned into the story after the fact of the initial creation of the character - not quite the same thing. It would be more like choosing not to go with the 'made from animated clay' origin for Wonder Woman in favour of the 'daughter of Zeus' origin.

At this juncture in Hollyweird, how can ANYONE be surprised at this news? I knew this was too good to be true when they tried the ol' bait and switch.

Gotta love how they chose a woman with a flat chest to play red Sonja I legit forgot this reboot was even happening and I’ll forget about it until they have commercials and once the commercials are over I’ll forget about it again Goodbye everyone who reads this I’ll forget about this comment as well!

Just an FYI: The Savage Sword of Conan is no longer available. Edit: I was able to discover I still have one local comic book shop and they still had copies in stock. I was able to pick up an issue. I was also told this is looking to be only two issues in the series. Next issue comes out April 24th.

Thank you for telling us about Savage Sword and Titan Comics. Comics have been trash for 15 years and I've been ignoring them, so I was completely unaware of this. I will DEFINITELY support Titan's Conan titles.

Male gaze is the point, the raison d'être, for the Red Sonja character. I guess Wokeywood is just bound and determined to pump out yet another box office bomb.

_Red Sonja_ with a J is the creation of Roy Thomas and whoever else was writing/editing _Savage Sword of Conan_ back then. She wore a ridiculous skimpy scale-mail bikini "armor," just the kind of thing to put on the cover of a comic magazine and sell it to teenage-ish boys. (I know I bought it.) I'm not sure why any film needs to be made or has ever needed to be made about this pretty minor side-character. She was set in the Hyborean Age and was contemporary with Conan the Cimmerian. They took the name from a character, _Red Sonya_ (of Rogatino) with a Y, created by Robert E. Howard for his short story _Shadow of the Vulture,_ a piece of historical fiction set in the mid to late 1520's against the backdrop of the Battle of Mohács and the Ottoman Turks'/Suleiman the Magnificent's siege of Vienna. The Red Sonya character in the story definitely does not go around in a scale-mail bikini. Personally, I would be perfectly happy to see a movie version of _Shadow of the Vulture,_ provided that the filmmakers stick as close as they can to the Howard story. It's an interesting, exciting tale. But, of course, they would have to correct the spelling back to Howard's original with a Y. As for young Mathilda's comments, I don't think they'll have much bearing on whether I'll see this movie or not. I'll be leery of going to see it no matter _what_ she said. Because I can't decide which is worse, a Red Sonja swordswoman running around and getting in fights in a skimpy scale-mail bikini or a Red Sonja that doesn't.

The whole Red Sonia comics is to look at Red Sonia wearing basically nothing while kicking ass. It is ALL ABOUT Male Gaze.

Revisiting this to mention Titan Comics. For two weeks or so, I have been reaching out to the customer service over an issue I have with their website, not allowing me to make a purchase. I have reached out on their “Contact Us” on the site itself, as well as sending them an email direct with the address listed on their site. Absolutely no response from them whatsoever. Terrible customer support and I won’t be trying to support them any longer.

I remember reading the Savage Sword of Conan comics Marvel did. Me and my siblings would quote from them. The queen that was replaced by her evil psycho twin, he and a wizard and crazy guy traveling to a Hell world to rescue a woman, and the Evil Dead/Night of the living Dead homage were all great. Three Deaths of Conan was my favorite.

Let’s be honest Red Sonya wouldn’t even be a thing without the “male gaze”. The male gaze isn’t problematic it’s just normal. Scantily clad Red Sonya is hot, nothing wrong with that.

It is funny. Women complain about the male gaze, until they no longer receive it A few years ago, I became an amputee. A female friend came to visit after I got out of hospital and we went out to have lunch. She remarked as we were leaving that everybody was looking at me. Our friendship did not last much longer
