You recognize their funk vibes which were heavily influence by P-Funk (Parliament Funkadelic). Which you may want to explore... look up George Clinton. Flea was in the sink, and is a master bass player. He grew up playing the trumpet, and was introduced to jazz at an early age if I remember correctly.

Most of their songs are about drug addiction as the lead singer Anthony Keidis has had a long struggle with heroin and other vices. His autobiography goes deep into it. Listen to albums Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Californication and Stadium Arcadium. They’re all different. Their really early stuff was more funk, rap, rock which is cool too. Grew up in SoCal listening to these guys and appreciating their journey. Saw them in concert with STP if you could imagine how awesome that was!
