Well if you can't afford the £8-10,000 a 40-year old four-string Mark 1 goes for these days there are companies out there that will build you a custom bass with multi coil Wal style pickups and a Lussithand double filter preamp for less than £3,000. That's what I've done. It will take a year but hopefully it's going to be epic when I get it.

@@SuckerFreeGear it's a Zoot Boudicca Wal-a-like bass built by Mike Walsh. It's his own body shape he's been making for years but one day decided to spec it out like a Wal. He makes his own pickups as he's lucky enough to have taken a real Wal pickup apart and measured everything. I know what you mean about other copies falling short but they do get very close and if mine is 90% there it's more than good enough for me. The Lussithand double nfp special preamp will be the biggest shortcoming but until somebody rips off an exact copy of the Wal preamp I hear it's the best on the market. Besides, a preamp can be changed when a better one comes along. I'll have to wait till march next year to finally get my hands on it. Either way, it's going to sound 100 times better than a stingray or a G&L L2000 Or the Ibanezs people have used to get close to the Justin Chancellor tone.

@@jamesnell7224 That sounds really cool, can you post a clip of it? I have seen lots of Wal "copies" recently getting very close to the original tone. At one point I had four WaLs when they were much cheaper, I am just down to one that I probably will never sell today.

@@SuckerFreeGear you have a real one? You're a lucky guy I'll tell you that. I'll definitely be posting about it on KZbin and on reddit. I don't have any proper recording equipment but even the iPhone recordings of Wals sound awesome. I'm going for a Justin Chancellor themed build with some of my own personalisation like a flamed maple & mahogany neck, black/white/black veneers between the body facings and underneath the fretboard. He's copying the Wal neck profile but on a 38mm nut width for me. Even if it's not perfect it will beat playing stinkfist with a stingray & look better doing it too!

My favorite body shape of all the wals. I'm glad you get to have both now. I'm not even going to ask what you spent but the sound is pretty damn good though. I hope lots of people appreciate what it took to land that bass. I don't know if you care for 5 string but mk2 looks really badass as a 5er too. I've been wanting to get one for ever. Just can't afford them.

Thick, Warm, and rich just like an SVT/Tube amp. You should try doing some live in Rio sounds and if you achieve it I would love to know how you did it, I feel like the DI-2112 would get the closest to it. Killer chops!

I play very hard with a ruler straight neck with very low action. All knobs were full up except slightly favoring neck pickup. Both filters engaged and at 10
