You're the second reviewer I've watched today who mentioned Akkerman inks. I hadn't heard of them before. It's frustrating, in a good way. If the review is especially well crafted, it creates more questions than it answers. And, Dave, you're surely in that category. Thank you for your good work.

Very nice comparison; I particularly like the Blackstone Uluru Red. You managed to do this with zero overlap versus my red collection, which is (1) Scribes' Ink Redbox (2) Diamine Red Dragon (3) Noodler's Empire Red (4) Noodler's Fox (5) Diamine Flamingo Pink (6) Pilot Iroshizuku Kosumusu.

Great series! been enjoying it alot so far! as soon as i saw the title i expected Diamine Red Dragon and Oxblood to be in it so i was surprised that it was not lol

Nice comparison.Wild strrawberry seems like a nice color i´v missed. One of my favourite is Pure Pens Cadwaladr. Reminds of Montblanc corn poppy red a bit. A deep red but still bright red.

I still haven't tried Pure Pens inks yet, although I believe they are Diamine made. Montblanc Corn Poppy Red is now end of life, I've just bought 3 new bottles whilst I can still get my hands on it.

@@PenultimateDave Yes I heard it is going to be discontinued or already are. Strange, I thought it was a popular colour. Yes the pure pen inks are made by Diamine but I like them. Pretty saturated inks.I bought a couple of their bottles and ink sample set to try them all out.

Great watch, nicely done, thank you. My own favourites are Diamine Matador and Diamine Red Dragon. It's great to see Corn Poppy here. Such a shame it's no longer available.

Looks like some orange and purple in there. I like the Akkerman Jansteen and the Blackstone Uluru Red.

Fantastic start to the red inks. I've got Diamine Wild Strawberry inked at the moment in my Lamy LX. My other bottle of red is Lamy Crystal Ruby. I've got a feeling that Diamine Merlot is one of those inks that sits halfway between two colour palettes and if you put it next to other purple inks everyone would be saying it doesn't really fit there and should be with the reds!

Diamine Wild Strawberry is a great red ink, also Diamine Poppy Red too. Yes I think you are right regarding Diamine Merlot sitting between two colour palettes, I think that's why I when an ink does this, I tend not to like the ink in the colour it's claiming to be.

Montblanc corn poppy is my favorite red! Shaeffer skrip red is nice too and noodlers bernanke red! I love dark brilliant reds. Akkerman China Town is stunning as well!

Some great inks again, found that I have some more to be ordering now thanks to you. You surprised me with a couple of these as well, some great shakes on red inks in this, so I'm going to be taking a good look at the Akkerman inks featured, thanks for doing this for us.

I haven't tried several of these inks, but I do really like Montegrappa Red, and Montblanc Corn Poppy red. Corn Poppy Red is solidly in my top five red inks, and I use it often.

I would move that Diamine Merlot into the purple category. For other colors, as you mentioned Diamine Poppy Red, also Diamine Red Dragon, Noodler's Tiananmen, Noodler's Boston Mueller, and Sheaffer Skrip Red. I just don't have a lot of true reds in my collection, so I guess I need to correct that situation.

Have you tried Kaweco Ruby Red? I tried mixing my own red with CMY inks, and I was able to get from apricot to orange to red-orange, and then to blue-leaning reds, to purple and violets, but a true spectrum red still eludes me.

Chiara C I LOVe kaweco red! It is glorious! There’s also a Seitz-Kreuznach Tomato Red that is lovely as well!

Yeah it probably should be purple, I think that's why I rarely use it, I just hate an ink that says it's one colour and is an entirely different colour in reality. It claims to be a red, as in red wine but to me that's not a red, although I guess it's probably closer to a black red or red black.

@@PenultimateDave I placed an order last night and threw in a bottle of Montblanc Burgundy Red since I'd never tried their inks. I know what you mean about mislabeling colors, and there are a number of them out there. I wish Diamine would get the Blue Edition inks out because I want to get that Candy Cane red in the nifty four-footed bottles.

Great video! Really surprised not to see J Herbin rouge Hematite here or Diamine red dragon. Would also love to see Rouge Opera and rouge Grenat. The Merlot was yucky and not really a red in my view. I would have put that with the purples, but I really enjoyed seeing all of these swatched out and I look forward to seeing more of these videos!

Hi Tracie, strangely I still don't have Diamine Red Dragon for some reason. I do have J Herbin Rouge Hematite and that will be in I think the next red ink video. Definitely Merlot is not an ink for me either, I think it's classified as a black red more.

I also love MB Corn Poppy Red, it's unfortunate that this ink has been discontinued. May be you will find a suitable replacement in video 2.

Are your ink reviews made on Oxford Optik Paper?

No, the ink comparison videos are created on Tomoe River 52gsm but I do have an Oxford Touch (Oxford Optik) notepad underneath that for padding, and I use Oxford Optik paper for the rest of my pen review writing samples.

I think it depends because blood looks a very different colour if you prick your finger vs arterial blood. Many say Diamine Oxblood looks like arterial blood or a more brighter red like Diamine Poppy Red for what you'd see if you cut yourself.

I have heard these Akkerman bottles are out of production and won't be making a comeback. These inks are made by Diamine - correct?

Where did you hear that? I heard that the big bottles were perhaps going to be replaced by the small ones. As far as the Diamine-Akkerman duo is concerned, given that 2 pen reviewers have their own ink colour and that the inks are formulated by Diamine for Akkerman, well...

I haven’t heard that. I’m still getting them with no problems from Vanness and Lemur Ink.

I haven't heard that Andrew. Akkerman do get them made in the Netherlands and have the ink shipped to them and they bottle them. I'd be surprised if the bottles were going away, but equally they aren't cheap to make.

Chiara, that would be a shame if they decided to discontinue the larger 120ml Dutch Master bottles and put them in smaller bottles. I actually prefer the larger 120ml bottles over the 60ml bottles myself. Partly because you get double the ink for not much more.
