I live two houses away from corner. I don’t want “rumble strips adding to the noise of traffic. A flashing light warning “upcoming light ahead” might help.

I can understand not wanting ‘rumble strips’ due to the noise, but I believe they may help (and can always be removed if they don’t) as well as flashing lights. If all else fails, start taking away driving privileges from those who run red lights…like a six month suspension of driving privileges plus heavy fin roof $2500 or more.

There hasn't been much traffic enforcement for about seven years now. That's why this is going on. It's not just this intersection; I drive throughout the city all day long and the amount of red-light runners I have on my dash cam is absolutely ludicrous. You're guaranteed to have one at least every third light.

A woman was recently killed in a horrific crash at that Fresno intersection. The intersection is at Friant Road and Shepherd Avenue. A tow truck ran the red light at full speed: zero braking until in the intersection.

Because Fresno drivers make LA drivers look weak. It's bad here. I hate driving here. Almost everyday I see a crazy driver that has no chill. I had some tailgate me the other day that was so bad if I paid attention to the rear view mirror I would've been able to see the expression on their face.

You're right. It really doesn't make sense. If you go on Google maps youll see that its completely visible from a mile away. It doesn't surprise you off of a sharp turn and the speed limit is pretty slow. It's just a regular intersection yet seems to have the most red-light runners I've ever seen.

It's a long intersection free length of road and drives get complacent. Enforcement whether humun or automated would go a long way to curtail this behavior.

The most popular consensus is that its the green right turn arrow, which stays green after the rest of the traffic gets a red... They suggested it to our city council mobster, but because he didn't come up with that idea, he roundly rejected the theory and refuses to take the communal suggestion of making the green arrow turn to a flashing yellow once the others turn red.. A really easy cheap and smart idea that would surely save lives.

I think this is very similar to one of my city's road, because it is a major highway crossed by two dead end road with a traffic light, so people just assume it is always green, when traffic light broke that is when it is worst, people just keep driving.

This is in riverpark in Fresno and I have seen this many times. What cracks me up is how vacant the green light cars are to danger. Most of these people live here and still do this every day! I can drive a whole weekend in LA with no idiots around but as soon as i get back to this County the real danger returns. It amazing how bad drivers are in Fresno county.

I used to drive here plenty of times, sometimes it feels so wide, I guess the wideness + long straight to the next traffic light + Woodward Park next to it + the high speeds with smooth roads, contributes to more tunnel vision, maybe? 🤷🏻‍♂️ What I do know is that if you’re not paying attention, you could easily be caught off guard, any large, fast, wide, smooth, street literally makes you go to sleep in your car!!!

I hate red light runners (and stop sign runners too). If I were to be able to change traffic laws, I would make running a red light a MISDEMEANOR! In addition, I would add a $3000 fine PLUS 6 months license suspension. THAT would definitely catch these idiots' attention!

You have no idea how bad the drivers are here in Fresno. I got hit this year off of Audubon and Nees because the driver was trying to pass me/get in front of me in a double turn lane and tried merging into my lane right next to me while I was in it. I've seen so many crazy drivers that have no care for other drivers at all. If you aren't going at least 10mph over the speed limit, the tailgating is real. Also no one moves over to turn anymore. They just do it right in front of you causing everyone to stop for you to make your turn, especially if there's room for you to move over or a turn lane. Don't even get me started on stopping for ambulances/fire trucks/police. That's not a thing here from what I've seen. Everyone has a me first mentality now here, and if you are in their way, they might take you out if you don't drive fast enough.

Obviously I don't live there! I don't understand how so many people can run the red light so often! Is it a new red light? Is it after a bad curve? Is it down a sharp hill? Or are people just totally oblivious?? With so many crashes there and so many people running this light, from both directions, you would think the rumble braking strips, police checkpoints or something could be set up to manage this intersection! This is an intersection on friant and shepherd in Fresno CA. I've lived down this road for 19 years. This intersection and many others on friant have been death traps for unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians. Not a new light at all and people need to watch where they're going because. They could possibly save a life and save their life
