Andrew Huberman talked about red light for eye health in one of his videos. Unless I’m confusing a couple things he said, I believe the red light exposure needed to happen in the morning before 11am. Also if you have a panel he suggested stepping away from it so it was easier to look at. He said the same thing that if it’s uncomfortable to look at then it was too strong. Another great use for red/NIR light is for joint pain. I use it all the time for all sorts of injuries!

@@PinkFluffies Are *you* trying to come off as an asinine airhead with the IQ of a toothpick, or is it your natural state of being?🤨 FYI, regardless of whether a human or-in this case-a dog will close their eyes automatically by reflex anyway, the LED light will *not* harm the eyes/eye-sight/vision in any way! Studies on LED phototherapy have been done since the 1960s and are proven safe, for both skin *and* eyes, they even have a positive effect on macular degeneration symptoms; it's just uncomfortable to stare into bright light (which oc explains the reflex of shutting the eyes). You're clearly 'uninformed' and confusing Red LED light therapy with the old/vintage tanning lamps, AKA sunlamps that emit ultraviolet radiation and were to be used no longer than a minute or two; these are utterly different light sources! So, the next time you're hell-bent on flippantly posting a stupid response, it's best to educate yourself on the basics. Especially before you go insinuating the mistreatment of someone's pet.

Not only do I love what it has done for those areas, but I also use it for joint pain; it works really well on my arthritic hands. Recently, I sprained my ankle, pretty badly… Immediate swelling, bruising and all… I immediately used the red light, and whereas past sprains took weeks, even months to heal, I kid you not I was walking within 24 hours, and was completely healed within a week!

Just to clarify, it's watts per square centimeter, not centimeters squared, those are two different things. The medical literature at Pubmed says that photobiomodulation can increase healing time by 150-200%. 850 nm near infrared penetrates up to 22 cm into the body, found to be one of the best frequencies for penetration and closest to red, the vibratory frequency (color) of your blood. We use 660 nm red + 850 nm NIR. Blue light is shown in the literature to kill Staph, MRSA and other infections on the surface of the skin, as it doesn't penetrate. Some therapists have put blue LEDs in the nose to treat the blood, and others actually inject a light into the body. Blue light has also shown to kill Melanoma and Lukemia Cells, Pubmed. We've used them on odd growths that have come up and they turn black and fall off. Green Light increases cellular growth by 4 times. Red light also increases Collagen in the skin by 400%, Pubmed. If you wanted to treat a burn you may start with Red+ NIR, Blue to stop any infection and later to Green because as the skin begins to heal the red is uncomfortable, feels like heat, the Green will promote healing. There are studies that suggest PBM to repair the Optic Nerve in some cases, one that was completely severed grew back together and restored sight. "Photo-excitation of electrons in cytochrome c oxidase as a theory of the mechanism of the increase of ATP production in mitochondria by laser therapy" - Harvard Study ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2014SPIE.8932E..04Z/abstract Thank you, I like what you said about the eye being an extension of our brain, on the outside of our body and I consider it to be a good way to treat the brain, although the NIR will penetrate right through your skull.

@@allewellyn I'm so sorry for your son! I'm not a doctor, only a retired electrician. I can tell you that I have never heard of any negative side effects regarding red+near infrared light. It's important to know that you only use it for about 10 minutes a day, per area. Too much makes it ineffective. It works on the level of the mitochondria which are in every cell in the body so it works on every tissue in the body. I don't even know of the condition you speak of. I am so sorry, I wish I could offer more help. If it were my son, I'd probably try it. I think I would just use the near infrared alone. If you take the Valacyclovir 1000mg or Acyclovir 800mg at the very first sign, (mine will start with a dull headache, brain fog, and fatigue) before the actual blister starts to form then same dosage 12 hrs later it will not actually form, or maybe just the very beginning. Dr. William Bates, creator of The Bates Method suggested sunning/palming the eyes. With the sunning part, you "look up at the sun" but with your eyes closed, then rotate your head back and forth for a few seconds to allow the sun's rays to hit the eye lids. Then you cup your hands over the eyes until things become dark (eyes open for this). Perhaps closing the eyes and rotating the head in front of the red light will produce the same benefits? When I use my red light and sit facing it, I do not put on my covers, but keep my eyes closed. In the morning when I first wake up, I turn on my red light and walk around while I take care of early morning tasks, eyes open but avoiding direct contact with the box.

I have used it daily for more than 5 years with great sucess for all the usual things plus for kitchen and hair tool burns, banged knees that were swollen and yellow, bug bites, photis repair after surgery, bruises fromthe taking blood inthe hospital, I use it to keep my mitochondria healthy for 10 minutes each morning before getting out of bed. CAncer prevention...Best of all, I had a huge surprise at the optmolalogist when when I went for a laser treatment and was told my eye was perfect and did not require any treatment. I had done nothing special, just being in the same room did it ... I love it, have 3 different configurations plus a far infrared personal sauna .Every home should have at least a 30-watt hand held unit. Lastly if you have alopecia and use it daily you will see your hair fill in about 4/ 6 months using red light and a demaroller.. .Be creative and make it work for you...

My husband is south Asian. He is fair skinned but beinv Asian he thought he wouldn't tan etc. he went skiing & omg he came back completely different colour. 😂 Now he always protects his skin. I also applied my LED mask on him when he got contact dermatitis wll over his face & eyes from a heavily perfumed soap 🤦🏽‍♀️. It really helped Thanks for this Penn. Happy holidays to you & family 💕

May I suggest you also as addition, instead of those pharmacy ointments, get Super Lysine ointment. Its opposite of those pharmacy ones. Its oily, and just make cold sore disappear, within a few days, without uncomfortable feeling of drying out, bleeding, scab and sometimes scar😂. Its really amazing

Penn I've never used eye protection & its never harmed my eye's, I use Dermalux with NIR & red, I'm also on drug's which can potentially cause severe eye damage & liver failure..... Etc etc. Also I want the led to get right to my above & below eyes-which goggles block to close crows feet lines, 1 other thing I did was to use Niod copper peptide & their low weight hialuronic acid/ the results were as if I was to use red light alone on clean skin 8-10 sessions later= Unbelievable difference in results. Ty & Your the Best- You Get straight to the point- without all the garbage talk Ty. Best Wishes All.

I wish you would warn people that it can bring on or out melasma/dark spots that you never had! Happen to me and I stop using LED lights and it went away . I actually could see the pattern from the bulbs , that’s what gave it away that it was the lux mask!

I actually talk about melasma and NIR all the time. The problem is it’s not consistent. For some people led with red and nir reduces pigmentation, and for others NIR (in particular) exacerbates it. I answer this in comments and say it In videos all the time, I’m so sorry if you’ve missed it 🩷

Hi, Having had painfully swollen legs and feet for 23 years, I have recently finally been diagnosed with lymphoedema. Have you found RLT (Red Light Therapy) helpful for your lymphoedema? I had MLD every week but it didn't lessen my oedema so I gave up. Any recommendations (eg supplements, etc) greatly appreciated :) All best wishes from the UK ^_^

He most definitely is up to date on the literature. Is an optical surgeon and professional. As well as attends professional conferences. Where to date there are no well run trials recommending we expose our eyes to additional red light treatments. Of course this may change I guess I’m in the conservative camp. It’s better to be cautious especially when dealing with your eyes! The manufactures of these devices don’t even recommend in using their devices on your eye.

Interesting, this video came on while I was enjoying my red light therapy session. I sell powerful low cost special deep red 54W Antifacelift spot lamps. I had these LED lamps manufactured to specs for added power and fast treatment duration. Unlike others, all the LEDs emit 660nm specifically for skin rejuvenation, and can also be used for eyes, closed or even open. I found several studies confrming that wavelength combating macular degeneration a while back. I have noticed that colors are now more vivid, certainly due to the rejuvenation of the cones in my eyes. The reason eye protection is needed with other light therapy devices is because they all use both 660nm and also the near infrared of 850nm which effects are unknown and potentially damaging since near infrared is invisible to our eyes. As far as my skin, it definitely has improved. The best way I can describe it is like getting a suntan glow without getting dark. As a disclaimer, I am not a doctor but happy to share what has been working for me and my customers.

Hi Penn. Thank you for this video! You mentioned that your eye dr was fine with red light treatment. My husband is interested in this treatment for his eyes, but his current eye dr isn't willing to 'go out on a limb' and give the ok, even tho it's being used in Europe. I think you're in the Portland area, correct? I would love to get your Dr's name, with his permission of course:) TIA!!
