We went out to catch some seafood in winter in Melbourne, Australia to try with our first harvest of Red Centered Finger Limes. We are targeting Southern Calamari Squid, Short Finned Pike Snook and Gurnard Perch

What a great selection of seafood. The limes were a nice colour and looked beautiful inside. I'm very jealous here

@@lyonheart84 G'day Brett, in Melbourne we are lucky to have quite a few large inland bays/inlets. Victoria is lesser known for its outdoor activities than other states but we do have excellent fishing opportunities here too. 👍

Those red centred limes look incredible! Great job with the catch too!

@@PeterEntwistle thanks Peter. Yes they go great with seafood. I will try them on other things too. 👍

Your plants are still looking so good. Our finger limes have yellowed off, so interesting to see how green yours is looking in comparison. Turned into a great day squidding. We really need to head out, as it's been too long!

@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus that's interesting about the leaves. My lime is in a very sheltered position so maybe they do not like too much wind.
@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus4 ай бұрын
@UrbanBounty I have them in a spot sheltered by glass fencing. I'm thinking exposure from above.

Looks like a really interesting plant. Amazing what a couple of days has delivered on a plate. Bet the aroma would be fantastic when the lime juice hits the seafood.

@@matthewspatch9529 G'day Matt! Yes those limes will definitely replace vinegar for me going forward. The google reviews were right about the seafood going well with them mate!

Hell yeah, thats my kind of video. Fruit from the backyard, fish from the ocean then food in the belly! Almost makes me want to move to Melbourne, almost!😉

@@dougs_urbanfarm 😉, thank you Doug! We are a coastal nation and there is so much abundance in our waters and our forests. Especially with hunting, we actually help the environment while saving money and getting healthy at the same time

Nice catch Paul Those limes are juicy looking I’ll be keen to try mine properly hopefully I don’t dehydrate my tree again next season 😅 I can’t say I remember catching pike around batemans bay before
@UrbanBounty4 ай бұрын
@@Coolclimatetropicalfruits G'day mate, yes if you like seafood it is worth having one of these I reckon, also a bit of a novelty for guests. Pike are a very underrated eating fish and cutting them into steaks is easier than filleting them. They have large bones so its easy to pull them out.

The fried calamari looks yummy Paul. I guess not many people are on the water at this of the year ?

@@turoidownunder8410 hi Tu, there are only lots of boats on the very perfect weather days. I have never seen such thick fog as it was on that day, it was incredible

Nice - my RCL in pot are alot smaller is definitely more pungent than Finger limes.Have you tried for elephant shark? Sold my boat 20y ago
@UrbanBounty4 ай бұрын
@@melbournesubtropicfruits9474 G'day Mark, the last elephant shark I caught was around the same time you sold your boat. I think they have better season around march and april. I only have a very small tinny now, much easier to maintain and handle.
@turoidownunder84104 ай бұрын
The elephant shark I caught was more than 15 years ago. They were not a targeted fish, just a by-catch.

What is the netting on the ground? Is it from Bunnings? I am looking for a solution to prevent the stupid black birds from rampaging my pots and beds.
@UrbanBounty4 ай бұрын
@@SiddKundu yes it is from bunnings mate and I put it down for the exact same reason as you. The blackbird mess problem. Its in tge garden section at bunnings and it works well
