Chemo cravings are real. I wanted pickled herring, pickles and sauerkraut!

Chemo cravings can indeed bring about some interesting and unexpected food preferences! It's great that you listened to your body and enjoyed those unique cravings. The important thing is to nourish yourself in a way that feels right for you during this time.

Chemo gave me anemia and I ate more red meat than usual to try to come back from that and it seemed to work as my blood work bounced back. I almost never eat red meat usually, but chemo also changed the foods I liked and didn’t like, so I don’t know. Right now I like it, maybe next week I won’t like it. LOL!

Thanks for sharing your story with the Yerbba community. We have recommended movement (our term for exercise) to help with the muscle and joint pains from the aromatase inhibitors. It sounds like you have had a particularly difficult time. Check out our video about how to manage joint pain from breast cancer treatment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5uZoXaXnLqYeNU .

Hi Doc ,my question..if we stop red meat and sugar will the cancer go away
@yerbba
@yerbba Жыл бұрын
While we might wish that we could make cancer go away through our own behaviors, it is not the case that cutting out meat and sugar will do so.

From a cancer standpoint, neither is preferred. If there are other reasons to follow one or the other, those reasons can be considered specifically.

Is it safe to eat red meat a few times a month, when mostly eat white meat? Like chicken, fish, turkey. I'm getting tired of only eating white meat. I'm just starting my chemo journey of 2 years tamoxifen ect. for triple positive ductual cancer. And is it safe to maybe 2 times a week drink warm tea with sweet and low? Since sugar feeds cancer. Plus I'm craving a donut so bad, since cant have because of cancer. I'm overweight because of other health issues that's been going on for several years. I only eat once a day. Trying eat more fruit and veggies too. Also are canned veggies safe to eat with cancer? Sorry for so many gurstions.

These are great questions. Check out our video about sugar and cancer kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpO4f4aef9utrqc . Lots of people ask about that! It is just fine to eat red meat occasionally, for example once a week. We are not enthusiastic about artificial sweeteners although in people with diabetes, they may be preferred over sugar. This would be something to ask your doctor about. Canned vegetables are also okay as long as there is no added sugar or salt.

I have enjoyed watching your videos during my breast cancer journey (2022). They are short and to the point which is perfect for my attention span 🙂. I am ER+ PR+ and HER2+. I have not found consistent information about nutrition (what to and not to eat) for women who are estrogen positive AND whether or not it makes a difference if you are on an estrogen blocker or not. If you are able to provide any information on this topic I would love it. Eat cruciferous vegetables is not enough. Thank you for considering this.

I have the same diagnosis but can’t eat cruciferous vegetables because of my Hypothyroidism. I’ve also NEVER in my life smoked, drank alcohol or eaten red meat due to my religion. I do eat limited chicken and mainly fish 🤷🏽‍♀️

Is deer meat as dangerous as beef?
@yerbba
@yerbba 11 ай бұрын
Deer meat is considered red meat (for the benefit of our other viewers). Deer meat is likely to be as safe as beef. Fortunately, there are no dangerous foods. Alcohol is probably the closest thing to something we would call dangerous.

Taste changes can be quite common, and it's interesting how certain foods can become unexpectedly appealing. It's great that you found comfort in these particular choices. Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your journey with the Yerbba community.

Red meat is Not the problem. Sugar and processed food are more likely. Fat helps constipation more than fiber. I am a 3 x cancer survivor. Cancer needs glucose to thrive. Fat eating ketosis makes more sense and fights inflammation. Your comment that red meat is associated with other health issues i.e. being overweight, and drinking alcohol as if these dietary issues are an avoidable syndrome, has little factual merit. I have been subscribed for a while because I believe your calm delivery of expectations can be a lifeline. Your dietary suggestions show American standard diet bias and raise some concerns. Fortunately you encourage patients to allow cravings and not stress about it.

The real point we are trying to make is that people did not cause their cancer and should be kind to themselves. We do try to avoid unfounded claims regarding the link between food and breast cancer. You are correct in that we are likely biased towards US-type diets.

Actually the content is good... But it seems this doc prefers conventional treatment such us chemo, etc
@yerbba
@yerbba 3 ай бұрын
It’s understandable that you might have concerns about conventional treatments like chemotherapy, and it’s always good to stay informed about all the options. The goal of sharing information about the standard courses of treatment is to help people understand what has been scientifically demonstrated in randomized trials to work. That said, we also aim to address and debunk experimental methods when necessary, so that everyone has a clear picture of what’s effective and what may still be unproven. It’s all about empowering people to make the best decisions for their health with reliable information.
