The Red Neon Blue-eye (Pseudomugil luminatus) is a beautiful highly sort after little fish ideal for the small nano aquarium and is one of the most colourful of all the blue-eye family, I have been asked by a lot of people about the habitat of this little fish but I myself have not been lucky enough to see it for myself. G.R. Allen, P.J. Unmack and R.K. Hadiaty did a very good article on this species in the ANGFA Rainbowfish page in 2016, I will put a link to it below.
I asked Heiko Bleher about their habitat and he informed me the plant species found in the area are mostly Hydrocotyle, Eleocharis, Microsorium and some areas Nymphaea species, with a hardscape of river pebbles and driftwood, after studying other similar species I thought they would normally be congregating in small heavily planted areas such as I have created away from other predatory species, so this is my take on their biotope I hope you enjoy the video, for more information check out the link below.

For nano fish, these must be second to none. Their private space seems to be five cms around the male in "breeding mode". Also, extremely beautiful. As always, very nice tank and great video!

@@UKFishCam they have just finished cleaning up from the last floods we've had here and it's flooding again, some wild weather, we wen't through years of drought and now it's flooding on a regular basis, at least when it all settles there should be some nice clean creeks here, a lot of them have been dry.

Excellent biotope for them. Do you need to cover the top of the tank from preventing any jumping accident? Are they jumpers?
@australianbiotopes4563
@australianbiotopes4563 11 ай бұрын
Thank you! no Blue-eyes aren't really jumpers, it would probably take something really bad to scare them for them to even try.

Iwaka** river is still in perfect condition. It is easily accessed from the road from Timika to Kuala Kencana. Turn left towards the fire station and then turn right towards the gravel road. Follow the gravel road to the creek (2km) or walk from R.T 5, Kuala Kencana (3km).

@@australianbiotopes4563 I am not sure. I wasn't as interested in fish at the time as I am now. There are heaps of rainbows in there though. I found the best way to catch them is on a TINY hook baited with worms. The Iwaka River is crystal clear, lightly vegetated, fast flowing with a mostly river pebble bottom with small sections of sand. The banks are completely covered in incredibly luxuriant rainforest. There are quite a few submerged tree and roots from the surrounding vegetation. The water is quite cold (22 degrees?) In the shaded areas. Many people visit the areas accesible from the gravel road, some to swim and others to spear fish with home made spear guns. West Papua would be paradise if it weren't for the Indonesians. The presence of the Indonesian military makes the area surrounding Iwaka River very dangerous for West Papuans and foreigners alike. If you decide to visit, I suggest you engage with Indonesians (many in Timika and West Papua in general are intel posing as civilians) and particularly the Indonesian military and police as little as possible.
