They've talked about it from time to time, but Ian tends to do quite well on the agility/ movement portions of courses, and he tends to enjoy the physicality in matches. this sort of crawling through tunnels is actually right up his alley, i think, and was probably a welcome reprieve from the otherwise bland stage designs.

When I first came into the army back in 2004 we were still training to use iron sights even though everybody had M68’s, for example in basic you had to finish your basic rifle marksmanship qualification with iron sites before you would be issued an M 68 red dot to train with. And what we were taught to do in close quarters for example in a building what’s the simply use the front site post as a red dot and look over the top of the rear sight at the front site post, that is much quicker than trying to acquire a proper site picture and at The distances you typically find in a building that’s plenty accurate enough.

I read a short story many years ago where one of the characters went bear hunting over bait at night (down south in the early 1900's). They took a green branch and stripped off the bark, then tied it the the barrel of the gun, extending for a couple feet. The very pale bare wood could be seen at night after your eyes adjusted, so Ian's idea of a long wire/white stripe has been used before.

Interesting that you point out how fun these stages would be with submachine guns, while you've also said that Soviet intention was for the AK-47 to be utilized in both the rifle and SMG roles. Do you think you would be having more fun with an AK? And do you suppose that was intentional in the part of the stage designers?

Rebellion1776 A lot of planning goes into these events. I do however think the goals of the event changed from being a match to being a festival with a match. 301 competitors cycled through 10 stages in 2 days, in that regard the event was a success. For an event like this to fail, it would mean that not all the shooter could complete all the stages and there’s no way to score it. Everything is relative. I spoke to people at this event that thought it was awesome because they have nothing like it where they’re from. Many enjoyed the festival atmosphere of the event. I had fun, but wish the stages were longer and there was more intermediate range rifle. I also witnessed people missing A LOT on any targets past 50 yards so maybe shorter ranges were necessary for this audience of competitors and skill level? Talking to the MD at the event he says he wants to get the stages to be 50% longer next year. I also recommended going back to actual squadding.

Almost any event that's this popular has GROWING pains. You're forced to make changes. Sometimes it doesn't come off how you would like, so you adjust and move on. If everyone got to shoot and no one got hurt, it wasn't a fail. It just wasn't a homerun. As Abe Lincoln said ...........
