I was born and raised in NYC and loved to get this on my hot dog off the hot dog and Pretzel cart. I moved out of NYC years ago, and missed having this on my hot dog. I can’t wait to try your recipe!

I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for being one of the people on here that has a place to go and get the whole recipe. I just don't understand why someone has a cooking channel and no place to get the whole printable recipe. And also I just love your channel! Thanks so much. And you and Rick are so real and down to earth people. (real Funny) love this.

I try to keep up. My website is currently in need of some upkeep and I have a few recipes that I have not had a chance to get up on there, but I will soon. This one, I knew you would want so I just threw a PDF up for everyone to print out. I am working on a page for this recipe as we speak. Thanks for letting me know that the website is helpful and yes, I agree with you, why on earth would you have a channel with recipes if you are not going to share them? People want it in written form. So I appreciate the feed back! Thanks for the comment!

I’ve been using this recipe on my hotdog cart and my customers love it! I live in Canada and in my neck of the woods no one had ever heard of red onion sauce. I serve a lot of the sauce, I quadruple the recipe when I make it as I go through so much of it. Thanks for the tutorial and the recipe.

Thank you for this. It's actually simmering right now. I've been trying to try the Sabretts sauce for years. The last time I was in New York I didn't get a chance to try it. The other day I bought a jar at the store (they never have it) and the next day my wife knocked it out of the fridge and it busted all over the floor before I could even open it. When I went back to the store they were out. Today I went to another store and they were out too. I was starting to think the universe was conspiring against me to try this sauce! I'm so happy I found your recipe!

UPDATE: I thought this recipe was really really good -SO I took a jar of it and bough 1 dozen Weiner Dogs and gave them to some of my friends at our local Slot car track here in Ca. Most of them never heard of it, and 2 of them had it in NY, well EVERYONE said it was SO GOOD and they would like to have some... I thought I was being biased but I guess not, THANK YOU Noreen it is one the best recipes I have so far..5 STARS!!!

As a born and bred New Yorker, I thank you for this recipe. I grew up eating hot dogs with the red onion sauce. My only problem is the consistency of the onions. They were not cooked down as much as yours but that’s the consistency of the jarred sauce. I would slice my onions just a little thicker and cook them a little less, that’s what I grew up with. I also would add a little cinnamon. Again, I thank you for this recipe. I’ve been looking a long time because I no longer live in NYC but I can get everything but the onion sauce. Now I have that! Plus I am very happy you did not put ketchup in the sauce like a lot of people. A true New Yorker would never put ketchup anywhere near their hotdog! 😁

@@BH-sn7ws not true! 😅 I would get an everything dog. Ketchup, mustard, kraut, onions, and relish. It was the way my dad got his. I miss NYC and my dad.

Oh, good! So glad I ran across this. The only versions of this or sweet pepper relish I can find in the stores are loaded with HFC and chemicals. Have to say, when I watch you cook on the coil electric range (which I hate because I can't control the heat like I want), I am reminded of Julia Child. She did everything on a regular electric coil cooktop, never burned a thing, and created amazing things. You do the same.

I love how you and Rick have fun while cooking the food you make. Keep the twelve year old coming out! More people need their twelve year old selves to come out and play! I love hot dogs but not onions so while this looks good for the people who love it I would leave mine plain. Try hot dogs with bar-be-que sauce on them, that is good.

I make this all the time, I grew up in Brooklyn and moved to Texas… I went to James Coney Island Hotdogs in Tx thinking it would be the same hotdogs in Brooklyn, n it was disappointing. I spoke with management n told them this is a bad representation of the Coney Island Hotdogs… To make a long story short, I had to learn how to make the red onions sauce. There’s nothing like a Brooklyn NY Hotdog red onion sauce. Thanks for sharing n ur video was hilarious with the comment u left in…

Hello just found this and very excited to try it out. As a born-and-bred New Yorker myself now living in Nevada I was very excited to find this. Also as a trained chef your combination for this recipe so far seems to be the only one that makes sense to me to come as close as possible to the original. And I want to say thank you for your effort for putting this together. Just please ignore the rest of those naysayers that I saw in other posts they're clueless anyway. Seems to me they need something to cling to their hotdog ROFL. It's always a good thing to know how to make something yourself. I look forward to seeing your other videos.

Turned out great Noreen. I made a 1/2 batch about 2 weeks ago. Not too long after the video was posted. I finally got around to making "rot"dogs for lunch this past Saturday and got to try it out on some dogs. I swear I have a vague memory of my mom buying a red hotdog relish like this at the base commissary when I was a kid. Don't know why she stopped other than they may have stopped carrying it. She enjoyed your relish as well.
